Static Chaos in Spin Glasses against quenched disorder perturbations

We study the chaotic nature of spin glasses against perturbations of the realization of the quenched disorder. This type of perturbation modifies the energy landscape of the system without adding extensive energy. We exactly solve the mean-field case, which displays a very similar chaos to that observed under magnetic field perturbations, and discuss the possible extension of these results to the case of short-ranged models. It appears that dimension four plays the role of a specific critical dimension where mean-field theory is valid. We present numerical simulation results which support our main conclusions.

On the Static and Dynamical Transition in the Mean-Field Potts Glass

We study the static as well as the glassy or dynamical transition in the mean-field $p$-state Potts glass. By numerical solution of the saddle point equations we investigate the static and the dynamical transition for all values of $p$ in the non-perturbative regime $p>4$. The static and dynamical Edwards-Anderson parameter increase with $p$ logarithmically. This makes the glassy transition temperature lie very close to the static one. We compare the main predictions of the theory with the numerical simulations.

The Fully Frustrated Hypercubic Model is Glassy and Aging at Large $D$

We discuss the behavior of the fully frustrated hypercubic cell in the infinite dimensional mean-field limit. In the Ising case the system undergoes a glass transition, well described by the random orthogonal model. Under the glass temperature aging effects show clearly. In the $XY$ case there is no sign of a phase transition, and the system is always a paramagnet.

Dynamical Behaviour of Low Autocorrelation Models

We have investigated the nature of the dynamical behaviour in low autocorrelation binary sequences. These models do have a glass transition $T_G$ of a purely dynamical nature. Above the glass transition the dynamics is not fully ergodic and relaxation times diverge like a power law $τ\sim (T-T_G)^{-γ}$ with $γ$ close to $2$. Approaching the glass transition the relaxation slows down in agreement with the first order nature of the dynamical transition. Below the glass transition the system exhibits aging phenomena like in disordered spin glasses. We propose the aging phenomena as a precise method to determine the glass transition and its first order nature.

Static chaos and scaling behaviour in the spin-glass phase

We discuss the problem of static chaos in spin glasses. In the case of magnetic field perturbations, we propose a scaling theory for the spin-glass phase. Using the mean-field approach we argue that some pure states are suppressed by the magnetic field and their free energy cost is determined by the finite-temperature fixed point exponents. In this framework, numerical results suggest that mean-field chaos exponents are probably exact in finite dimensions. If we use the droplet approach, numerical results suggest that the zero-temperature fixed point exponent $θ$ is very close to $\frac{d-3}{2}$. In both approaches $d=3$ is the lower critical dimension in agreement with recent numerical simulations.

Numerical study of the Ising spin glass in a magnetic field

We study the order parameter distribution P(q) in the 4d Ising spin glass with $\pm J$ couplings in a magnetic field. We also compare these results with simulations for the infinite ranged model (i.e. SK model.) Then we analyse our numerical results in the framework of the droplet picture as well as in the mean field approach.

Chaos in short-range spin glasses

The nature of static chaos in Ising spin glasses is studied. For the problem of chaos with magnetic field, scaling relations in the case of the SK model and short-range models are presented. Our results also suggest that if there is de Almeida-Thouless line then it is similar to that of mean-field theory for d=4 and close to the h=0 axis for d=3. We estimate the lower critical dimension to be in the range 2.7-2.9. Numerical studies at d=4 show that there is chaos against temperature changes dT and the correlation length diverges like 1/dT.
