Problem On The Acoustic Cloak By $0$ to $R_1$ Transformation

The $0$ to $R_1$ radial spherical coordinate transformation method can be making electromagnetic (EM) invisible cloak. However the cloak by transformation optic has infinite speed and exceeding light speed etc fundamental difficulties. In this paper, we discover problem on acoustic cloak by transformation and prove that in the $0$ to $R_1$ radial spherical coordinate transformation, the pressure wave field $P(r_p)=P(r)$ is invariant, in the physical inner spherical surface boundary $r=R_1$, $P(R_1)$ is not zero. the acoustic field propagation penetrate into the inner sphere $r < R_1$.Therefore, the inner sphere $r < R_1$ can not be cloaked. The GL simulation figures of the pressure acoustic wave propagation penetrate into the inner sphere $r \le R_1$ are presented in figure 1 to figure 12.The pressure wave is setting to zero that cause the scattering wave to disturb incident pressure acoustic wave outside of the outer sphere $r \ge R_2$ that make the whole sphere $r \ge R_2$ will be deltected. GL method simulation is presented in figure 13. we discovered and proved that $0$ to $R_1$ sphere radial transformation can not be used to induce acoustic no scattering cloak.

Single-mode instability in standing-wave lasers: The quantum cascade laser as a self-pumped parametric oscillator

We report the observation of a clear single-mode instability threshold in continuous-wave Fabry-Perot quantum cascade lasers (QCLs). The instability is characterized by the appearance of sidebands separated by tens of free spectral ranges (FSR) from the first lasing mode, at a pump current not much higher than the lasing threshold. As the current is increased, higher-order sidebands appear that preserve the initial spacing, and the spectra are suggestive of harmonically phase-locked waveforms. We present a theory of the instability that applies to all homogeneously broadened standing-wave lasers. The low instability threshold and the large sideband spacing can be explained by the combination of an unclamped, incoherent Lorentzian gain due to the population grating, and a coherent parametric gain caused by temporal population pulsations that changes the spectral gain line shape. The parametric term suppresses the gain of sidebands whose separation is much smaller than the reciprocal gain recovery time, while enhancing the gain of more distant sidebands. The large gain recovery frequency of the QCL compared to the FSR is essential to observe this parametric effect, which is responsible for the multiple-FSR sideband separation. We predict that by tuning the strength of the incoherent gain contribution, for example by engineering the modal overlap factors and the carrier diffusion, both amplitude-modulated (AM) or frequency-modulated emission can be achieved from QCLs. We provide initial evidence of an AM waveform emitted by a QCL with highly asymmetric facet reflectivities, thereby opening a promising route to ultrashort pulse generation in the mid-infrared. Together, the experiments and theory clarify a deep connection between parametric oscillation in optically pumped microresonators and the single-mode instability of lasers, tying together literature from the last 60 years.

Self-starting harmonic frequency comb generation in a quantum cascade laser

Optical frequency combs establish a rigid phase-coherent link between microwave and optical domains and are emerging as high-precision tools in an increasing number of applications. Frequency combs with large intermodal spacing are employed in the field of microwave photonics for radiofrequency arbitrary waveform synthesis and for generation of THz tones of high spectral purity in the future wireless communication networks. We demonstrate for the first time self-starting harmonic frequency comb generation with a THz repetition rate in a quantum cascade laser. The large intermodal spacing caused by the suppression of tens of adjacent cavity modes originates from a parametric contribution to the gain due to temporal modulations of the population inversion in the laser. The mode spacing of the harmonic comb is shown to be uniform to within $5\times 10^{-12}$ parts of the central frequency using multiheterodyne self-detection. This new harmonic comb state extends the range of applications of quantum cascade laser frequency combs.

The $0$ to $R_1$ cylinder radial coordinate transformation can not be used to make cylinder layer electromagnetic cloak

In this paper, we discover and proved that the $0$ to $R_1$ cylinder radial coordinate transformation can not be used to make cylinder layer electromagnetic EM cloak. Because in the $0$ to $R_1$ cylinder radial coordinate transformation, the value area of the electric wave field $E_z (ρ,ϕ,z)$ and magnetic wave field $H_z (ρ,ϕ,z)$ are invariant. After $0$ to $R_1$ cylinder radial transformation,$ρ_q = R_1 + Q(ρ)$, $E_z (ρ_q,ϕ,z) = E_z (ρ,ϕ,z)$,$H_z (ρ_q,ϕ,z) = H_z (ρ,ϕ,z)$ . in the physical inner cylinder boundary, $E_z (R_1,ϕ,z) \ne 0$,$H_z (R_1,ϕ,z) \ne 0$, The cylinder EM wave field will propagation penetrate into the inner cylinder $ρ< R_1,\left| z \right| < \infty $ .Therefore, the inner cylinder $ρ< R_1,\left| z \right| < \infty $ . can not be cloaked. In many published papers on EM cylinder cloak, the $0$ to $R_1$ cylinder radial transformation is wrongfully used for their EM cylinder layer cloak.

MHD boundary layers theory in Sobolev spaces without monotonicity. I. well-posedness theory

We study the well-posedness theory for the MHD boundary layer. The boundary layer equations are governed by the Prandtl type equations that are derived from the incompressible MHD system with non-slip boundary condition on the velocity and perfectly conducting condition on the magnetic field. Under the assumption that the initial tangential magnetic field is not zero, we establish the local-in-time existence, uniqueness of solution for the nonlinear MHD boundary layer equations. Compared with the well-posedness theory of the classical Prandtl equations for which the monotonicity condition of the tangential velocity plays a crucial role, this monotonicity condition is not needed for MHD boundary layer. This justifies the physical understanding that the magnetic field has a stabilizing effect on MHD boundary layer in rigorous mathematics.

Non-relativistic limit of the compressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier-P1 approximation model arising in radiation hydrodynamics

As is well-known that the general radiation hydrodynamics models include two mainly coupled parts: one is macroscopic fluid part, which is governed by the compressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier equations, another is radiation field part, which is described by the transport equation of photons. Under the two physical approximations: "gray" approximation and P1 approximation, one can derive the so-called Navier-Stokes-Fourier-P1 approximation radiation hydrodynamics model from the general one. In this paper we study the non-relativistic limit problem for the Navier-Stokes-Fourier-P1 approximation model due to the fact that the speed of light is much larger than the speed of the macroscopic fluid. Our results give a rigorous derivation of the widely used macroscopic model in radiation hydrodynamics.

A Review of Automated Formal Verification of Ad Hoc Routing Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks

This paper surveys how formal verification can be used to prove the correctness of ad hoc routing protocols, which are fundamental infrastructure of wireless sensor networks. The existing techniques fall into two classes: verification on small-scale networks and verification on unbounded networks. The former one is always fully automatic and easy to use, thanks to the limited state space generated in verification. However, it cannot prove the correctness over all cases. The latter one can provide a complete proof based on abstractions of unbounded network. However, it usually needs user intervention and expertise in verification. The two kinds of technique are illustrated by verifications against some key properties such as stability, loop-freedom and deadlock-freedom. To conclude, they can be used to find faults and prove correctness, respectively. We believe that they can together aid the development of correct ad hoc routing protocols and their reliable implementations.

A Real-Time Detecting Algorithm for Tracking Community Structure of Dynamic Networks

In this paper a simple but efficient real-time detecting algorithm is proposed for tracking community structure of dynamic networks. Community structure is intuitively characterized as divisions of network nodes into subgroups, within which nodes are densely connected while between which they are sparsely connected. To evaluate the quality of community structure of a network, a metric called modularity is proposed and many algorithms are developed on optimizing it. However, most of the modularity based algorithms deal with static networks and cannot be performed frequently, due to their high computing complexity. In order to track the community structure of dynamic networks in a fine-grained way, we propose a modularity based algorithm that is incremental and has very low computing complexity. In our algorithm we adopt a two-step approach. Firstly we apply the algorithm of Blondel et al for detecting static communities to obtain an initial community structure. Then, apply our incremental updating strategies to track the dynamic communities. The performance of our algorithm is measured in terms of the modularity. We test the algorithm on tracking community structure of Enron Email and three other real world datasets. The experimental results show that our algorithm can keep track of community structure in time and outperform the well known CNM algorithm in terms of modularity.

Local well-posedness of Prandtl equations for compressible flow in two space variables

In this paper, we consider the local well-posedness of the Prandtl boundary layer equations that describe the behavior of boundary layer in the small viscosity limit of the compressible isentropic Navier-Stokes equations with non-slip boundary condition. Under the strictly monotonic assumption on the tangential velocity in the normal variable, we apply the Nash-Moser-Hörmander iteration scheme and further develop the energy method introduced in [1] to obtain the well-posedness of the equations locally in time.

Computational Lower Bounds for Colourful Simplicial Depth

The colourful simplicial depth problem in dimension d is to find a configuration of (d+1) sets of (d+1) points such that the origin is contained in the convex hull of each set (colour) but contained in a minimal number of colourful simplices generated by taking one point from each set. A construction attaining d^2+1 simplices is known, and is conjectured to be minimal. This has been confirmed up to d=3, however the best known lower bound for d at least 4 is ((d+1)^2)/2. A promising method to improve this lower bound is to look at combinatorial octahedral systems generated by such configurations. The difficulty to employing this approach is handling the many symmetric configurations that arise. We propose a table of invariants which exclude many of partial configurations, and use this to improve the lower bound in dimension 4.

Global analysis of data on the spin-orbit coupled $A^{1}Σ_{u}^{+}$ and $b^{3}Π_{u}$ states of Cs2

We present experimentally derived potential curves and spin-orbit interaction functions for the strongly perturbed $A^{1}Σ_{u}^{+}$ and $b^{3}Π_{u}$ states of the cesium dimer. The results are based on data from several sources. Laser-induced fluorescence Fourier transform spectroscopy (LIF FTS) was used some time ago in the Laboratoire Aimé Cotton primarily to study the $X ^{1}Σ_{g}^{+}$ state. More recent work at Tsinghua University provides information from moderate resolution spectroscopy on the lowest levels of the $b^{3}Π_{0u}^{\pm}$ states as well as additional high resolution data. From Innsbruck University, we have precision data obtained with cold Cs$_{2}$ molecules. Recent data from Temple University was obtained using the optical-optical double resonance polarization spectroscopy technique, and finally, a group at the University of Latvia has added additional LIF FTS data. In the Hamiltonian matrix, we have used analytic potentials (the Expanded Morse Oscillator form) with both finite-difference (FD) coupled-channels and discrete variable representation (DVR) calculations of the term values. Fitted diagonal and off-diagonal spin-orbit functions are obtained and compared with {\it ab initio} results from Temple and Moscow State universities.

More Colourful Simplices

We show that any point in the convex hull of each of (d+1) sets of (d+1) points in general position in \R^d is contained in at least (d+1)^2/2 simplices with one vertex from each set. This improves the known lower bounds for all d >= 4.

A GL Double Layer EM Cloaks In Broad Frequency Band And Reciprocal Law

In this paper, we propose a novel GLWF double layer EM cloak in the broad frequency band. The GLWF double layer cloak consists of two sphere annular layers, two type cloak materials are proposed and installed in its each layer, respectively. The outer layer of the GL cloak has the invisible function in broad frequency band, while its inner layer has the fully absorption and rapid delay function. The GLWF double layer cloak overcomes the following difficulties of the single layer PS cloak. (1) There exists no EM wavefield can be excited inside the concealment of the PS cloak, the concealment of the PS cloak is blind. Our GL double layer cloak recovered that the EM wave field can be excited inside the concealment of the GL double layer cloak. (2) There is exceeding light speed physical violation in PS cloak, its invisibility only in very narrow frequency band. Our GLWF double layer cloak corrects the violation. (3) The reciprocal law is satisfied in our GL double cloak media. However, the PS cloak damaged the reciprocal law.. The simulations and comparisons of the EM wave field propagation through the GLWF double cloak, GL double cloak and GL double layer with PS outer layer are presented to show the advantages of the GLWF double layer EM cloak The GL double layer cloaks are proposed by our GL EM modeling and inversion. The 3D GL EM modeling simulations for the double layer cloak are presented. The copyright and patent of the GLWF double layer cloak materials and GL EM modeling and inversion in this paper are reserved by authors in GL Geophysical Laboratory.

A Double Layer Electromagnetic Cloak And GL EM Modeling

In this paper, we propose a novel electromagnetic (EM) cloaking structure that consists of two annular layers between three spherical shells and model its performance numerically and theoretically by using a Global and Local EM field (GL) method. The two annular layers contain distinct cloaking materials: the outer layer provides invisibility; the inner layer is fully absorbing. The cloaking materials are weakly degenerative. The wavefield from an EM source located outside the cloak propagates as in free space outside the outer shell, never be disturbed by the cloak and does not penetrate into the inner absorbing layer and concealment. The field of a source located inside inner layer or the cloaked concealment is completely absorbed by the inner layer and never reaches the outside of the middle shell, Moreover, the EM wavefield excited in concealment is not disrupted by the cloak. There exists no Maxwell EM wavefield can be excited in a single layer cloaked concealment which is filled by normal material. Moreover, we find a negative dielectric and positive susceptibility metamaterial to fill into the concealment, such that the interior EM wave propagates from the concealment to free space through the single layer cloak. Therefore, the double layer cloak is important and necessary for complete invisibility. Numerical simulations and theoretical analysis verifying these properties are performed using the GL EM modeling method that we described in this paper.

An Electromagnetic GL Double Layered Cloak

In this paper, we propose a new electromagnetic (EM) GL double layered cloak. The GL double layered cloak is consist of two sphere annular layers, $R_1 \le r \le R_2$ and $R_2 \le r \le R_3$. Two type cloak materials are proposed and installed in the each layer, respectively. The outer layer cloak of the GL double layered cloak has the invisible function, the inner layer cloak has fully absorption function. The GL double layered metamaterials are weak degenerative and weak dispersive. When the source is located outside of the GL double layered cloak, the excited EM wave field propagation outside of the double layered cloak is as same as in free space and never be disturbed by the cloak; also, the exterior EM wave can not penetrate into the inner layer and concealment. When local sources are located inside of the GL double cloaked concealment with the normal EM materials, the excited EM wave is propagating under Maxwell equation governing, it is complete absorbed by the inner layer cloak of GL double cloak and never propagate to outside of the inner layer of the GL cloak, moreover, the EM wavefield in concealment never be disturbed by the cloak. The GL doubled layered cloak is a robust cloak and has complete and sufficient invisibility functions. Its concealment is the normal electromagnetic environment. Our EM GL double layered cloak is different from conventional common cloak. The 3D GL EM modeling simulations for the double layered cloak are presented. The GL method is an effective physical simulation method and is fully different from the conventional methods. It has double abilities of the theoretical analysis and numerical simulations to study the cloak metamaterials and wide materials and field scattering problem in physical sciences.

No Maxwell Electromagnetic Wave Field Excited In Cloaked Concealment

The GL electromagnetic (EM) modeling is used to simulate the 3D EM full wave field propagation through cloaks. The 3D GL simulation of the EM wave field excited by a point source outside of the cloaks has been done. The simulation of the EM wave field from the point source excitation inside of the cloak device is presented in this paper. By using the GL modeling simulation, we found a phenomenon that there is no Maxwell EM wave field which is excited by nonzero local sources inside of the single layer cloaked concealment. The theoretical proof of the phenomenon by GL method is proposed in this paper. The GL method is fully different from the conventional methods. The GL method has double abilities of the theoretical analysis and numerical simulations to research the physical process and cloak metamaterial properties that is exhibited in this paper.

Hyperplane Arrangements with Large Average Diameter

The largest possible average diameter of a bounded cell of a simple hyperplane arrangement is conjectured to be not greater than the dimension. We prove that this conjecture holds in dimension 2, and is asymptotically tight in fixed dimension. We give the exact value of the largest possible average diameter for all simple arrangements in dimension 2, for arrangements having at most the dimension plus 2 hyperplanes, and for arrangements having 6 hyperplanes in dimension 3. In dimension 3, we give lower and upper bounds which are both asymptotically equal to the dimension.

The complexity of the envelope of line and plane arrangements

A facet of an hyperplane arrangement is called external if it belongs to exactly one bounded cell. The set of all external facets forms the envelope of the arrangement. The number of external facets of a simple arrangement defined by $n$ hyperplanes in dimension $d$ is hypothesized to be at least $d{n-2 \choose d-1}$. In this note we show that, for simple arrangements of 4 lines or more, the minimum number of external facets is equal to $2(n-1)$, and for simple arrangements of 5 planes or more, the minimum number of external facets is between $\frac{n(n-2)+6}{3}$ and $(n-4)(2n-3)+5$.
