Constraining String Gauge Field by Planet Perihelion Precession and Galaxy Rotation Curves

We performed various tests on a cosmological model in which the string gauge field, and its coupling to matter, is used to explain the rotation dynamics of stars in a galaxy. Observations used include perihelion precession and galaxy rotation curves. We solved precession motions for perturbations of 1) a Lorenz-like force and 2) a general power law central force. For the latter case, a simple rule judging pro/retrograde motions is derived. We attributed the precession of solar system planets to the force due to the string field and calculated the field strengths. We then fitted the resultant field strengths with a profile consisting one part generated by the Sun and another background due to other matter in the Milky Way. We used the Milky Way rotation curve to estimate the field strength and compared it with the one found by precession. The field strengths in another 22 galaxies are also analyzed. The strengths form a range that spans 2 orders of magnitude and contains the value found for the Milky Way. We also deduced from the model a relation between field strength, galaxy size and luminosity and verified it with data of the 22 galaxies.

On a subfactor generalization of Wall's conjecture

In this paper we discuss a conjecture on intermediate subfactors which is a generalization of Wall's conjecture from the theory of finite groups. We explore special cases of this conjecture and present supporting evidence. In particular we prove special cases of this conjecture related to some finite dimensional Kac Algebras of Izumi-Kosaki type which include relative version of Wall's conjecture for solvable groups.

On intermediate subfactors of Goodman-de la Harpe-Jones subfactors

In this paper we present a conjecture on intermediate subfactors which is a generalization of Wall's conjecture from the theory of finite groups. Motivated by this conjecture, we determine all intermediate subfactors of Goodman-Harpe-Jones subfactors, and as a result we verify that Goodman-Harpe-Jones subfactors verify our conjecture. Our result also gives a negative answer to a question motivated by a conjecture of Aschbacher-Guralnick.

On Affine Orbifold Nets Associated with Outer Automorphisms

We construct solitons in affine orbifold nets associated with outer automorphisms, and we show that our construction gives all the twisted representations of the fixed point subnet. This allows us to settle a number of questions concerning such orbifold constructions.

Existence, Convergence and Limit Map of the Laplacian Flow

We prove short time existence and uniqueness of the Laplacian flow starting at an arbitrary closed $G_2$-structure. We establish long time existence and convergence of the Laplacian flow starting near a torsion-free $G_2$-structure. We analyze the limit map of the Laplacian flow in relation to the moduli space of torsion-free $G_2$-structures. We also present a number of results which constitute a fairly complete algebraic and analytic basis for studying the Laplacian flow.

On representing some lattices as lattices of intermediate subfactors of finite index

We prove that the very simple lattices which consist of a largest, a smallest and $2n$ pairwise incomparable elements where $n$ is a positive integer can be realized as the lattices of intermediate subfactors of finite index and finite depth. Using the same techniques, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for subfactors coming from Loop groups of type $A$ at generic levels to be maximal.

Fitting the Galaxy Rotation Curves: Strings versus NFW profile

Remarkable fit of galaxy rotation curves is achieved using a simple model from string theory. The rotation curves of the same group of galaxies are also fit using dark matter model with the generalized Navarro-Frenk-White profile for comparison. String model utilizes three free parameters vs five in the dark matter model. The average chi-squared of the string model fit is 1.649 while that of the dark matter model is 1.513. The generalized NFW profile fits marginally better at a price of two more free parameters.

Electronic Conductivity Upturn of HOPG Contrast to Transport Properties of Polycrystal Graphite

The transport properties of highly oriented pyrolitic graphite (HOPG) and polycrystal graphite have been studied. The electric conductivity of HOPG is several times larger than that of the polycrystal graphite. Along with the large magnetoresistances (MR), the polycrystal graphite show the accordant semiconductor-like character in a wide temperature (roughly range from 20K to 120K) under 0, 4, 8, 12 T applied magnetic field, while the magnetic-field-induced metal-semiconductor-like transition was only found in HOPG. The difference of transport properties originates from the Coulomb interaction quasipartical in HOPG graphite layers in contrast with the grain boundary scattering in the polycrystal graphite.

An application of Mirror extensions

In this paper we apply our previous results of mirror extensions to obtain realizations of three modular invariants constructed by A. N. Schellekens by holomorphic conformal nets with central charge equal to 24.

SU(3)-structures and Special Lagrangian Geometries

We generalize Calabi-Yau 3-folds from the special Lagrangian perspective. More precisely, we study SU(3)-structures which admit as "nice" a local special Lagrangian geometry as the flat $\mathbf{C}^3$ or a Calabi-Yau structure does. The underlying almost complex structure may not be integrable. Such SU(3)-structures are called {\it admissible}. Among these, we are particularly interested in a subclass of SU(3)-structures called {\it nearly Calabi-Yau}. We discuss the local generalities of admissible SU(3)-structures and nearly Calabi-Yau structures in Cartan's sense. Examples of nearly Calabi-Yau but non-Calabi-Yau structures as well as other admissible SU(3)-structures are constructed from the twistor spaces of self-dual Einstein 4-manifolds. Two classes of examples of complete special Lagrangian submanifolds are found by considering the anti-complex involution of the underlying SU(3)-structures. We finally show that the moduli space of compact special Lagrangian submanifolds in a nearly Calabi-Yau manifold behaves in the same way as the moduli in the Calabi-Yau case.

Pseudoholomorphic Curves in Nearly Kahler $\mathbf{CP}^3$

We study pseudoholomorphic curves in the nearly Kalher $\mathbf{CP}^3$. It is shown that a class of curves called null-torsion are in one to one correspondence with the integrals of a holomorphic contact system on the usual Kahler $\mathbb{CP}^3$ studied by Bryant. Browing Bryant's result we get plenty of such curves. Rational curves are shown to be either vertical or horizontal or null-torsion. Both horizontal and null-torsion curves can be understood by mentioned Bryant's results while vertical curves are just fibers of the twistor fibration.

Some computations in the cyclic permutations of completely rational nets

In this paper we calculate certain chiral quantities from the cyclic permutation orbifold of a general completely rational net. We determine the fusion of a fundamental soliton, and by suitably modified arguments of A. Coste , T. Gannon and especially P. Bantay to our setting we are able to prove a number of arithmetic properties including congruence subgroup properties for $S, T$ matrices of a completely rational net defined by K.-H. Rehren .

Mirror extensions of local nets

In this paper we prove a general theorem on the extensions of local nets which was inspired by recent examples of exotic extensions for Virasoro nets with central charge less than one and earlier work on cosets and conformal inclusions. When applying the theorem to conformal inclusions and diagonal inclusions, we obtain infinite series of new examples of completely rational nets.

Exact Numerical Solution of the BCS Pairing Problem

We propose a new simulation computational method to solve the reduced BCS Hamiltonian based on spin analogy and submatrix diagonalization. Then we further apply this method to solve superconducting energy gap and the results are well consistent with those obtained by Bogoliubov transformation method. The exponential problem of 2^{N}-dimension matrix is reduced to the polynomial problem of N-dimension matrix. It is essential to validate this method on a real quantum

Conformal Nets Associated with Lattices and Their Orbifolds

In this paper we study representations of conformal nets associated with positive definite even lattices and their orbifolds with respect to isometries of the lattices. Using previous general results on orbifolds, we give a list of all irreducible representations of the orbifolds, which generate a unitary modular tensor category.

Experimental creation of entanglement using separable state

We experimentally demonstrate the entanglement can be created on two distant particles using separate state. We show that two data particles can share some entanglement while one ancilla particle always remains separable from them during the experimental evolution of the system. Our experiment can be viewed as a benchmark to illustrate the idea that no prior entanglement is necessary to create entanglement.
