Distinct Fermi Surface Topology and Nodeless Superconducting Gap in (Tl0.58Rb0.42)Fe1.72Se2 Superconductor

High resolution angle-resolved photoemission measurements have been carried out to study the electronic structure and superconducting gap of the (Tl$_{0.58}$Rb$_{0.42}$)Fe$_{1.72}$Se$_2$ superconductor with a T$_c$=32 K. The Fermi surface topology consists of two electron-like Fermi surface sheets around $Γ$ point which is distinct from that in all other iron-based compounds reported so far. The Fermi surface around the M point shows a nearly isotropic superconducting gap of $\sim$12 meV. The large Fermi surface near the $Γ$ point also shows a nearly isotropic superconducting gap of $\sim$15 meV while no superconducting gap opening is clearly observed for the inner tiny Fermi surface. Our observed new Fermi surface topology and its associated superconducting gap will provide key insights and constraints in understanding superconductivity mechanism in the iron-based superconductors.

Quantitative Determination of Eliashberg Function and Evidence of Strong Electron Coupling with Multiple Phonon Modes in Heavily Over doped (Bi,Pb)2Sr2CuO6

Super-high resolution laser-based angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements have been carried out on a heavily overdoped (Bi,Pb)2Sr2CuO6 (Tc> 5 K) superconductor. Taking advantage of the high-precision data on the subtle change of the quasi-particle dispersion at different temperatures, we develop a general procedure to determine the bare band dispersion and extract the bosonic spectral function quantitatively. Our results show unambiguously that the 70 meV nodal kink is due to the electron coupling with the multiple phonon modes, with a large mass enhancement factor Lamda= 0.42 even in the heavily over-doped regime.

Nature of c-axis coupling in underdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 with varying degrees of disorder

The dependence of the Josephson Plasma Resonance (JPR) frequency in heavily underdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δon temperature and controlled pointlike disorder, introduced by high-energy electron irradiation, is cross-correlated and compared to the behavior of the ab-plane penetration depth. It is found that the zero temperature plasma frequency, representative of the superfluid component of the c-axis spectral weight, decreases proportionally with T_c when the disorder is increased. The temperature dependence of the JPR frequency is the same for all disorder levels, including pristine crystals. The reduction of the c-axis superfluid density as function of disorder is accounted for by pair-breaking induced by impurity scattering in the CuO2 planes, rather than by quantum fluctuations of the superconducting phase. The reduction of the c-axis superfluid density as function of temperature follows a T^{2}--law and is accounted for by quasi-particle hopping through impurity induced interlayer states.

Directionality is an inherent property of biochemical networks

Thermodynamic constraints on reactions directions are inherent in the structure of a given biochemical network. However, concrete procedures for determining feasible reaction directions for large-scale metabolic networks are not well established. This work introduces a systematic approach to compute reaction directions, which are constrained by mass balance and thermodynamics, for genome-scale networks. In addition, it is shown that the nonconvex solution space constrained by physicochemical constraints can be approximated by a set of linearized subspaces in which mass and thermodynamic balance are guaranteed. The developed methodology can be used to {\it ab initio} predict reaction directions of genome-scale networks based solely on the network stoichoimetry.
