Dispersive analysis of the $J/ψ\toπ^0 γ^\ast$ transition form factor with $ρ$-$ω$ mixing effects

Motivated by the discrepancies noted recently between the theoretical predictions of the electromagnetic $J/ψ\to π^0 γ^*$ transition form factor and the BESIII data, we reanalyze this transition form factor using the dispersive Khuri-Treiman equations, with final-state interactions in both the direct channel and the crossed channels properly considered. This improved framework incorporates $ρ$-$ω$ mixing effects. The effect of four-pion states is evaluated through a dispersively improved vector-meson-dominance model. From this information, we propose a two-parameter fit that provides an excellent description of the BESIII data over the broad energy range from 0 to 2.8GeV. We demonstrate that the $ρπ^0$ decay mode of the $J/ψ$ is dominated by strong interaction, while the $ωπ^0$ mode is dominated by one-photon exchange. From this, we extract the relative phase between the strong and the one-virtual-photon (electromagnetic) modes in hadronic decays of $J/ψ$ as $(62 \pm 21)^{\circ}$. This could provide useful information in understanding the long-standing $ρπ$ puzzle in $J/ψ$ decays.

What can we learn from the radiative decays of the $D_{s1}(2460)$ meson?

We study the radiative decays $D_{s1}(2460)\toγD^{*}_{s0}(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)\to γD^0K^+/γD^+K^0$ and argue that their simultaneous experimental measurement, or at least a constraint on the ratio of the corresponding branching fractions, can allow one to probe the nature of the $D^{*}_{s0}(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ mesons.

Neutrinoless double-beta decay of the $Δ^-$ resonance

The subprocess $nn\to ppe^-e^-$ is a key ingredient in the interpretation of nuclear neutrinoless double-beta decay. Intermediate $Δ$ resonances may provide additional enhancements to this transition. We take a first step toward a $Δ$-full description of $nn\to ppe^-e^-$ by investigating the neutrinoless double-beta decay $Δ^- \to p e^-e^-$ in the framework of chiral effective field theory. We systematically derive the long-range contribution from light-Majorana-neutrino exchange through loop diagrams and incorporate the short-range part through counterterms required by renormalization. We predict the pion-mass dependence of the decay amplitude in the kinematic configuration with collinear electrons. Furthermore, to facilitate lattice-QCD matching, we calculate the decay amplitude in the degenerate $Δ$-nucleon mass limit and provide the corresponding long-range prediction.

The structure of the lightest positive-parity charmed mesons from LQCD

The nature of low-lying scalar and axial-vector charmed mesons has long been debated, specifically whether they are best explained as hadronic molecules or compact tetraquark systems. These two scenarios exhibit quite different features for the accessible $SU(3)$ multiplets in the scalar and axial-vector sectors. To resolve this debate, we performed $N_f=3+1$ lattice simulations and calculated the energy levels of the $SU(3)$ $[6]$ and $[\overline{15}]$ multiplets for both the scalar and axial-vector mesons in an $SU(3)$ flavor-symmetric setting. In both sectors we find attractive states for the [6] and repulsive interactions for the $[\overline{15}]$. This is consistent with the hadronic molecule picture, but not the compact tetraquark picture which predicts a low-lying $[\overline{15}]$ states in the axial-vector sector but not in the scalar sector.

Decoding the structure near the $π^+π^-$ mass threshold in $ψ(3686) \rightarrow J/ψπ^+π^-$ decays

In light of recent high-precision data taken by the BESIII Collaboration, we reconsider the dipion transition $ψ(3686) \rightarrow J/ψπ^+π^-$. The strong pion-pion final-state interactions are taken into account model-independently by using dispersion theory. We find that we can reproduce the substructure near the $π^+π^-$ threshold observed experimentally without introducing an extra resonance state. While a helicity-flip amplitude plays an important role for the formation of the dip in the invariant-mass distribution, the virtual exchange of the charmoniumlike exotic $Z_c(3900)$ state improves the fit quality only slightly.

Radiative decays of hadronic molecules: From confusion to inspiration

Radiative decays of hadronic states provide an essential source of information that can facilitate deciphering their nature and properties. However, a lot of confusion concerning radiative decays of hadronic molecules and their interpretation can be found in the literature. In this paper, we briefly review several types of such decays and pinpoint similarities and essential differences between them. In particular, we emphasise the crucial role played by the hierarchy of the scales relevant to the studied system and the resulting necessity of employing an approach that considers them appropriately. We illustrate the situation with several instructive examples.

Entanglement suppression for $ΩΩ$ scattering

We study entanglement suppression in $s$-wave $ΩΩ$ scattering, where each baryon has spin $3/2$. By treating the $S$-matrix as a quantum operator acting on the spin states, we quantify its ability to generate entanglement and identify the conditions on the phase shifts of the spin channels that minimize entanglement generation in the system. In $ΩΩ$ scattering, only antisymmetric spin channels are allowed due to Fermi-Dirac statistics. Applying the entanglement-suppression framework to $ΩΩ$ scattering, we find two solutions for the phase shifts: one leading to a spin SU(4) symmetry and the other to a nonrelativistic conformal symmetry. We show that the solution associated with the nonrelativistic conformal symmetry originates from the specific structure of the Clebsch-Gordan coefficients in the $3/2 \otimes 3/2$ system.

Neutrinoless double beta decays of hyperons in covariant chiral perturbation theory

Neutrinoless double beta ($0νββ$) decays of spin-1/2 hyperons are investigated in a covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory framework, extended by a $ΔL=2$ operator proportional to the Majorana neutrino mass, where $L$ denotes the lepton number. Within the light Majorana neutrino exchange mechanism, the decay amplitudes are found to emerge at the one-loop level, representing the long-range contribution. The extended-on-mass-shell scheme is employed to renormalize the one-loop amplitudes and restore consistent chiral power counting. Consequently, the differential decay rates for all accessible hyperon $0νββ$ channels are predicted and the corresponding branching ratios are more than 20 orders of magnitude smaller than the current experimental upper bounds. Interestingly, it is found that the leading contribution to hyperon $0νββ$ decay is actually from short-range counterterm operators, as required by the renormalization argument. Neutrinoless transition form factors are proposed to determine this leading contribution through future lattice QCD simulations.

$H$ dibaryon and its cousins from SU(6)-constrained baryon-baryon interaction

We constrain the $S$-wave baryon-baryon interaction using SU(6) symmetry within a nonrelativistic effective field theory. The most general leading-order Lagrangian contains two independent parameters, which we determine using physical $NN$ and lattice QCD $ΩΩ$ scattering lengths. This framework allows for parameter-free predictions in the strangeness $S=-2$ sector relevant to the $H$ dibaryon. Solving the coupled-channel scattering problem, we identify two bound states below the $ΛΛ$ threshold, one deeply bound and one shallow, along with resonances near the $ΣΣ$ and $Σ^*Σ^*$ thresholds. We demonstrate that these poles result in distinct enhancements in $ΛΛ$ invariant mass distributions, suggesting that the $H$ dibaryon exists as a multichannel bound state and providing clear signatures for experimental verification.

Hyperon neutrinoless double beta decays in chiral perturbation theory

We study the neutrinoless double beta decays of spin-1/2 hyperons, $B_1^- \to B_2^+ \ell^- \ell^-$ with $B_1^-\in \{Σ^-,Ξ^-\}$ and $B_2^+\in\{p,Σ^+\}$, which violate lepton number by two units. The decay amplitudes are computed within covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory at the one-loop level. Dalitz plots of the squared amplitude for six physical decay processes are presented in this proceeding, while a detailed numerical analysis will be presented in a forthcoming publication.

Entanglement Suppression, Quantum Statistics and Symmetries in Spin-3/2 Baryon Scatterings

We explore the interplay among entanglement suppression, quantum statistics and enhanced symmetries in the non-relativistic $S$-wave scattering involving the lowest-lying spin-3/2 baryons, which can be considered as four-dimensional qudits. These baryons form a ten-dimensional representation (decuplet) under the $\text{SU}(3)$ light-flavor symmetry and, in this limit, are considered indistinguishable under strong interactions. Treating the $S$-matrix in the spin-3/2 baryon-baryon scattering as a quantum logic gate in the spin space, we study the consequence of entanglement suppression and compute the entanglement power of the $S$-matrix. When the entanglement power vanishes, the $S$-matrix is either an Identity or a SWAP gate and spin-flavor symmetries and/or non-relativistic conformal invariance emerge, as previously observed in spin-1/2 baryons. In the case of scattering identical particles, the entanglement power never vanishes due to constraints from spin statistics, which we interpret as projection-valued measurements onto symmetric or antisymmetric Hilbert space and define the entanglement power accordingly. When the entanglement power is non-vanishing but sits at a global or local minimum, enhanced symmetries still emerge and the $S$-matrix can be interpreted as an Identity or a SWAP gate acting on the restricted Hilbert space allowed by quantum statistics. In general, when scattering identical spin-$s$ particles, we identify an enhanced $\text{SU}(2s+1)_{\text{spin}}$ symmetry for the Identity gate.

Renormalization of chiral perturbation theory with spinless matter field in curved spacetime

We generalize chiral perturbation theory with spinless matter fields in the fundamental representation of ${\rm SU}(N)$ to curved spacetime in the presence of an external gravitational field. This work is motivated by recent interest in investigating energy-momentum tensor matrix elements of matter fields. The complete chiral Lagrangian is constructed, including both minimal extensions from flat spacetime and new curvature-induced terms, up to the next-to-next-to-leading order in the chiral expansion, $\mathcal{O}(p^3)$. We perform a systematic one-loop renormalization of the generating functional using the background field method combined with the heat-kernel technique, and explicitly compute the resulting ultraviolet divergences.

Deciphering the mechanism of $J/ψ$-nucleon scattering

The low-energy $J/ψN$ scattering is important for various reasons: it is related to the hidden-charm $P_c$ pentaquark states, provides insights into the role of gluons in nucleon structures, and is relevant to the $J/ψ$ properties in nuclear medium. The scattering can happen through two distinct mechanisms: the coupled-channel mechanism via open-charm meson-baryon intermediate states, and the soft-gluon exchange mechanism. We investigate the $J/ψN$ $S$-wave scattering length through both mechanisms, and find that the soft-gluon exchange mechanism leads to a scattering length at least one order of magnitude larger than that from the coupled-channel mechanism and thus is the predominant one. The findings can be verified by lattice calculations and will enhance our understanding of the scattering processes breaking the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka rule.

Huizhou Hadron Spectrometer -- a Proposed High-rate Experimental Setup at the High Intensity Heavy-ion Accelerator Facility

The High-Intensity Heavy-Ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF), currently under construction in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, China, is projected to be completed by 2025. This facility will be capable of producing proton and heavy-ion beams with energies reaching several GeV, thereby offering a versatile platform for advanced fundamental physics research. Key scientific objectives include exploring physics beyond the Standard Model through the search for novel particles and interactions, testing fundamental symmetries, investigating exotic hadronic states such as di-baryons, pentaquark states and multi-strange hypernuclei, conducting precise measurements of hadron and hypernucleus properties, and probing the phase boundary and critical point of nuclear matter. To facilitate these investigations, we propose the development of a dedicated experimental apparatus at HIAF - the Huizhou Hadron Spectrometer (HHaS). This paper presents the conceptual design of HHaS, comprising a solenoid magnet, a five-dimensional silicon pixel tracker, a Low-Gain Avalanche Detector (LGAD) for time-of-flight measurements, and a Cherenkov-scintillation dual-readout electromagnetic calorimeter. The design anticipates an unprecedented event rate of 1-100 MHz, extensive particle acceptance, a track momentum resolution at 1% level, an electromagnetic energy resolution of ~3% @ 1 GeV and multi-particle identification capabilities. Such capabilities position HHaS as a powerful instrument for advancing experimental studies in particle and nuclear physics. The successful realization of HHaS is expected to significantly bolster the development of medium- and high-energy physics research within China.

Violation of the elliptic flow scaling of $f_0(980)$ in p-Pb collisions at the LHC

We investigate the production and elliptic flow of the $f_0(980)$ in high-multiplicity p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02$ TeV using a hadronic coalescence model with the $K$ and $\bar K$ phase-space distributions provided by the Hydro-Coal-Frag hybrid model. Our results, which agree with the ALICE and CMS measurements, support the $K\bar K$ molecular interpretation of the $f_0(980)$ structure and show, however, a breakdown of the simple number-of-constituent (NC) scaling of its elliptic flow. The latter is in contrast to the deuteron elliptic flow, which exhibits a significantly better NC scaling when the same coalescence width parameter is used.

Production of $J/ψp \bar p$ in electron-positron collisions

The discoveries of the hidden-charm $P_c$ pentaquarks by the LHCb Collaboration have been not confirmed by other experiments yet. It is desirable to investigate the feasibility of observing them in other experiments. We present an order-of-magnitude estimate of the cross section of the $e^+e^-\to J/ψp \bar p$ process, where the hidden-charm pentaquarks may be searched for, and find it to be of $\mathcal{O}(4~\text{fb})$ when the $e^+e^-$ c.m. energy is around 6 GeV. The cross section for $e^+e^-\to P_c \bar p$ is then estimated to be $\lesssim \mathcal{O}(0.1~\text{pb})$. Thus, it is promising to search for $P_c$ at the future high-luminosity super tau-charm facilities with annual integrated luminosity about $1~ab^{-1}$. We also predict the branching fraction of $Υ\to J/ψp\bar p$ to be of $\mathcal{O}(2\times 10^{-6})$, which can be tested at $B$ factories.

Decays of $Υ(10860)$ and $Υ(10753)$ into $ωχ_{bJ}$

In this paper, we model $Υ(10753)$ as a $4S$-$3D$ bottomonium mixture and $Υ(10860)$ as a $5S$-$4D$ mixture, and predict the properties of a new bottomonium state, $Υ(10950)$, as the mixing partner of $Υ(10860)$. The mixing angles are derived from dielectron decay widths and mass shifts of these bottomonia. We consider open-bottom meson loops in the decays of the $D$-wave bottomonium components, based on a nonrelativistic effective field theory power counting. We show that the $S$-$D$ mixing scheme is consistent with the experimental data of the decays of $Υ(10860)$ into $ωχ_{bJ}$ ($J=0,1,2$) and $Υ(10753)$ into $ωχ_{bJ}$ ($J=1,2$). Predictions for the dielectron widths and partial decay widths into $χ_{bJ}ω$ for $Υ(10753)$ and $Υ(10950)$ are presented.

Gravitational form factors of pions, kaons and nucleons from dispersion relations

The gravitational form factors of pions, kaons and the nucleons are investigated by employing modern dispersive techniques and chiral perturbation theory. We determine the gravitational form factors of pions and kaons, extending our analysis to explore the pion mass dependence of these form factors at several unphysical pion masses up to 391 MeV, for which lattice results exist for the meson-meson scattering phase shifts. We also review our analysis on the nucleon gravitational form factors at the physical pion mass, and then systematically calculate various three-dimensional spatial and two-dimensional transverse density distributions for the nucleons. These results provide new insights into the mass distribution inside nucleons. As a by-product, we match our dispersion relation results and those obtained from chiral perturbation theory with external gravitational source at the next-to-next-to-leading order, yielding values for the low-energy constants $c_8=-4.28_{-0.38}^{+0.37} ~\mathrm{GeV}^{-1}$ and $c_9=-0.68_{-0.05}^{+0.06} ~\mathrm{GeV}^{-1}$. These results offer a robust benchmark for future experimental and theoretical studies.
