Tighter uncertainty relations based on Wigner-Yanase skew information for observables and channels

Uncertainty principle is the basis of quantum mechanics. It reflects the basic law of the movement of microscopic particles. Wigner-Yanase skew information, as a measure of quantum uncertainties, is used to characterize the intrinsic features of the state and the observable. In this paper, we mainly investigate the sum uncertainty relations for both quantum mechanical observables and quantum channels based on skew information. We establish a new uncertainty relation in terms of Wigner-Yanase skew information for $n$ observables, which is saturated (thus it holds as equality) for two incompatible observables. We also present two uncertainty relations for arbitrary finite $N$ quantum channels by using skew information. Our uncertainty relations have tighter lower bounds than the existing ones. Detailed examples are provided.

Tighter monogamy and polygamy relations of multiparty quantum entanglement

We investigate the tight monogamy and polygamy relations of multiparty entanglement for arbitrary quantum states. By using the power of the bipartite measure of entanglement, we establish a class of tight monogamy relations of multiparty entanglement with larger lower bounds than the existing monogamy relations. We also give a class of tight polygamy relations of multiparty entanglement with smaller upper bounds than the existing polygamy relations, by using the power of the entanglement of assistance. It is shown that these new monogamy and polygamy relations are tighter than the former results.

Tighter monogamy relations of multiqubit entanglement in terms of Rényi-$α$ entanglement

We present a class of tight monogamy relations in terms of Rényi-$α$ entanglement, which are tighter than the monogamy relations of multiqubit entanglement just based on the power of the Rényi-$α$ entanglement for $α\geq 2$ and the power $η>1$. For $2>α\geq\frac{\sqrt{7}-1}{2}$ and the power $η>2$, we establish a class of tight monogamy relations of multiqubit entanglement with larger lower bounds than the existing monogamy relations of multiqubit entanglement.

Violation of generalized Bell inequality and its optimal measurement settings

We provide a method to describe quantum nonlocality for $n$-qubit systems. By treating the correlation function as an $n$-index tensor, we derive a generalized Bell inequality. Taking generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state for example, we calculate quantum prediction under a series of measurement settings involving various angle parameters. We reveal the exact relationship between quantum prediction and the angle parameters. We show that there exists a set of optimal measurement settings and find the corresponding maximal quantum prediction for $n$-qubit generalized GHZ states. As an example, we consider an interesting situation involving only two angle parameters. Finally, we obtain a criterion for the violation of the generalized Bell inequality.

Quantifying the quantumness of ensembles via unitary similarity invariant norms

The quantification of the quantumness of a quantum ensemble has theoretical and practical significance in quantum information theory. We propose herein a class of measures of the quantumness of quantum ensembles using the unitary similarity invariant norms of the commutators of the constituent density operators of an ensemble. Rigorous proof shows that they share desirable properties for a measure of quantumness, such as positivity, unitary invariance, concavity under probabilistic union, convexity under state decomposition, decreasing under coarse graining, and increasing under fine graining. Several specific examples illustrate the applications of these measures of quantumness in studying quantum information.

Detecting high-dimensional multipartite entanglement via some classes of measurements

Mutually unbiased bases, mutually unbiased measurements and general symmetric informationally complete measurements are three related concepts in quantum information theory. We investigate multipartite systems using these notions and present some criteria detecting entanglement of arbitrary high dimensional multi-qudit systems and multipartite systems of subsystems with different dimensions. It is proved that these criteria can detect the $k$-nonseparability ($k$ is even) of multipartite qudit systems and arbitrary high dimensional multipartite systems of $m$ subsystems with different dimensions. We show that they are more efficient and wider of application range than the previous ones. They provide experimental implementation in detecting entanglement without full quantum state tomography.

Separability criteria via some classes of measurements

Mutually unbiased bases (MUBs) and symmetric informationally complete (SIC) positive operator-valued measurements (POVMs) are two related topics in quantum information theory. They are generalized to mutually unbiased measurements (MUMs) and general symmetric informationally complete (GSIC) measurements, respectively, that are both not necessarily rank 1. We study the quantum separability problem by using these measurements and present separability criteria for bipartite systems with arbitrary dimensions and multipartite systems of multi-level subsystems. These criteria are proved to be more effective than previous criteria especially when the dimensions of the subsystems are different. Furthermore, full quantum state tomography is not needed when these criteria are implemented in experiment.

Measuring Coherence with Entanglement Concurrence

Quantum coherence is a fundamental manifestation of the quantum superposition principle. Recently, Baumgratz \emph{et al}. [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{113}, 140401 (2014)] presented a rigorous framework to quantify coherence from the view of theory of physical resource. Here we propose a new valid quantum coherence measure which is a convex roof measure, for a quantum system of arbitrary dimension, essentially using the generalized Gell-Mann matrices. Rigorous proof shows that the proposed coherence measure fulfills all the requirements dictated by the resource theory of quantum coherence measures. Moreover, strong links between the resource frameworks of coherence concurrence and entanglement concurrence is derived, which shows that any degree of coherence with respect to some reference basis can be converted to entanglement via incoherent operations. Our work provides a clear quantitative and operational connection between coherence and entanglement based on two kinds of concurrence. This new coherence measure, coherence concurrence, may be beneficial to the study of quantum coherence.

Necessary and sufficient product criteria for quantum states via the rank of realignment matrix of density matrix

We present a necessary and sufficient product criterion for bipartite quantum states based on the rank of realignment matrix of density matrix. Then, this approach is generalized to multipartite systems. We first introduce the concept of semiproduct in a similar manner to the semiseparable and prove that semiproduct is equivalent to fully product. Therefore, a quantum state is bipartite product with respect to all possible partitions implies fully product which is different from the case of separability. For pure states, it can easily be seen that several necessary and sufficient separability criteria for multipartite systems are derived as a special case of our results. Several specific examples illustrate that our criteria are convenient and operational.

Qubit-loss-free fusion of W states employing weak cross-Kerr nonlinearities

With the assistance of weak cross-Kerr nonlinearities, we introduce an optical scheme to fuse two small-size polarization entangled W states into a large-scale W state without qubit loss, i.e.,$\mathrm{W}_{n+m}$ state can be generated from an $n$-qubit W state and a $m$-qubit W state. To complete the fusion task, two polarization entanglement processes and one spatial entanglement process are applied. The fulfillments of the above processes are contributed by a cross-Kerr nonlinear interaction between the signal photons and a coherent state via Kerr media. We analyze the resource cost and the success probability of the scheme. There is no complete failure output in our fusion mechanism, and all the garbage states are recyclable. In addition, there is no need for any controlled quantum gate and any ancillary photon, so it is simple and feasible under the current experiment technology.

On four-photon entanglement from parametric down-conversion process

We propose two schemes to generate four-photon polarization-entangled states from the second-order emission of the spontaneous parametric down-conversion process. By using linear optical elements and the coincidence-detection, the four indistinguishable photons emitted from parametric down-conversion source result in the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state or the superposition of two orthogonal GHZ states. For this superposition state, under particular phase settings we analyze the quantum correlation function and the local hidden variable (LHV) correlation. As a result, the Bell inequality derived from the LHV correlation is violated with the visibility larger than 0.442. It means that the present four-photon entangled state is therefore suitable for testing the LHV theory.

Scalable symmetry detector and its applications by using beam splitters and weak nonlinearities

We describe a method to detect twin-beam multiphoton entanglement based on a beam splitter and weak nonlinearities. For the twin-beam four-photon entanglement, we explore a symmetry detector. It works not only for collecting two-pair entangled states directly from the spontaneous parametric down-conversion process, but also for purifying them by cascading these symmetry detectors. Surprisingly, by calculating the iterative coefficient and the success probability we show that with a few iterations the desired two-pair can be obtained from a class of four-photon entangled states. We then generalize the symmetry detector to $n$-pair emissions and show that it is capable of determining the number of the pairs emitted indistinguishably from the spontaneous parametric down-conversion source, which may contribute to explore multipair entanglement with a large number of photons.

Entanglement measure and quantum violation of Bell-type inequality for a family of four-qubit entangled states

By calculating entanglement measures and quantum violation of Bell-type inequality, we reveal the relationship between entanglement measure and the amount of quantum violation for a family of four-qubit entangled states. It has been demonstrated that the Bell-type inequality is completely violated by these four-qubit entangled states. The plot of entanglement measure as a function of the expectation value of Bell operator shows that entanglement measure first decreases and then increases smoothly with increasing quantum violation.

Exploration of multiphoton entangled states by using weak nonlinearities

We propose a fruitful scheme for exploring multiphoton entangled states based on linear optics and weak nonlinearities. Compared with the previous schemes the present method is more feasible because there are only small phase shifts instead of a series of related functions of photon numbers in the process of interaction with Kerr nonlinearities. In the absence of decoherence we analyze the error probabilities induced by homodyne measurement and show that the maximal error probability can be made small enough even when the number of photons is large. This implies that the present scheme is quite tractable and it is possible to produce entangled states involving a large number of photons.

Separability criteria via sets of mutually unbiased measurements

Mutually unbiased measurements (MUMs) are generalized from the concept of mutually unbiased bases (MUBs) and include the complete set of MUBs as a special case, but they are superior to MUBs as they do not need to be rank one projectors. We investigate entanglement detection using sets of MUMs and derived separability criteria for $d$-dimensional multipartite systems, and arbitrary high-dimensional bipartitie and multipartite systems. These criteria provide experimental implementation in detecting entanglement of unknown quantum states.

Exploration of photon-number entangled states using weak nonlinearities

A method for exploring photon-number entangled states with weak nonlinearities is described. We show that it is possible to create and detect such entanglement at various scales, ranging from microscopic to macroscopic systems. In the present architecture, we suggest that the maximal phase shift induced in the process of interaction between photons is proportional to photon numbers. Also, in the absence of decoherence we analyze maximum error probability and show its feasibility with current technology.

Entanglement evolution of three-qubit mixed states in multipartite cavity-reservoir systems

We analyze the multipartite entanglement evolution of three-qubit mixed states composed of a GHZ state and a W state. For a composite system consisting of three cavities interacting with independent reservoirs, it is shown that the entanglement evolution is restricted by a set of monogamy relations. Furthermore, as quantified by the negativity, the entanglement dynamical property of the mixed entangled state of cavity photons is investigated. It is found that the three cavity photons can exhibit the phenomenon of entanglement sudden death (ESD). However, compared with the evolution of a generalized three-qubit GHZ state which has the equal initial entanglement, the ESD time of mixed states is later than that of the pure state. Finally, we discuss the entanglement distribution in the multipartite system, and point out the intrinsic relation between the ESD of cavity photons and the entanglement sudden birth of reservoirs.

On the permutationally invariant part of a density matrix and nonseparability of N-qubit states

We consider the concept of "the permutationally invariant (PI) part of a density matrix," which has proven very useful for both efficient quantum state estimation and entanglement characterization of $N$-qubit systems. We show here that the concept is, in fact, basis-dependent, but that this basis dependence makes it an even more powerful concept than has been appreciated so far. By considering the PI part $ρ^{\rm PI}$ of a general (mixed) $N$-qubit state $ρ$, we obtain: (i) strong bounds on quantitative nonseparability measures, (ii) a whole hierarchy of multi-partite separability criteria (one of which entails a sufficient criterion for genuine $N$-partite entanglement) that can be experimentally determined by just $2N+1$ measurement settings, (iii) a definition of an efficiently measurable degree of separability, which can be used for quantifying a novel aspect of decoherence of $N$ qubits, and (iv) an explicit example that shows there are, for increasing $N$, genuinely $N$-partite entangled states lying closer and closer to the maximally mixed state. Moreover, we show that if the PI part of a state is $k$-nonseparable, then so is the actual state. We further argue to add as requirement on any multi-partite entanglement measure $E$ that it satisfy $E(ρ)\geq E(ρ^{\rm PI})$, even though the operation that maps $ρ\rightarrowρ^{\rm PI}$ is not local.
