Sobolev Regularity in Mixed and Isotropic Scales for Vector Fields on the Torus

We study regularity, existence, and uniqueness of solutions to vector fields on the two-dimensional torus in Sobolev spaces of dominating mixed smoothness, which measure regularity separately in the two variables. For constant-coefficient vector fields, we obtain families of mixed smoothness estimates describing how the gain or loss of regularity can be distributed between the two variables. In the nonreal case, a gain of one derivative can be distributed between the two directions, whereas for real irrational coefficients the loss is governed by the irrationality measure of the coefficient. We also establish sharpness below the corresponding arithmetic threshold and describe the rational and Liouville obstructions. For real-valued variable coefficients, direct estimates for the periodic Fourier-mode equations yield mixed smoothness regularity results and their isotropic and classical consequences. We then use a periodic conjugation to the averaged constant-coefficient normal form. Although this conjugation introduces an additional loss in the mixed smoothness scale, it preserves isotropic Sobolev orders and therefore transfers the sharp constant-coefficient isotropic theory to the variable-coefficient setting. In the nonresonant regimes, we also obtain existence and uniqueness under the natural zero-mean compatibility condition.

Differential Complexes in Time-Periodic Gelfand-Shilov Spaces

We study the global solvability of a class of differential complexes on the product manifold $\mathbb{T}^m \times \mathbb{R}^n$ associated with systems of evolution operators of the form $L_r = \partial_{t_r} + ia_r(t)P(x,D_x), r=1,\ldots,m,$ where the coefficients $a_r$ are real-valued Gevrey functions on the torus and $P(x,D_x)$ is a globally elliptic normal differential operator on $\mathbb{R}^n$. Within the framework of time-periodic Gelfand--Shilov spaces, we introduce a natural differential complex generated by these operators and investigate its solvability in both functional and ultradistributional settings. We provide a complete characterization of global solvability in terms of a Diophantine condition involving the constant part of the associated $1$-form and the spectrum of $P$. We also analyze global hypoellipticity of the complex. These results extend previous works on scalar operators and constant coefficient systems to the setting of differential complexes with time-dependent real coefficients.

Global Hypoellipticity for Systems in Time-Periodic Gelfand-Shilov Spaces

We investigate the global hypoellipticity of a class of overdetermined systems with coefficients depending both on time and space variables in the setting of time-periodic Gelfand-Shilov spaces. Our main result provides necessary and sufficient conditions for the global hypoellipticity of this class of systems, stated in terms of Diophantine-type estimates and sign-changing behavior of the imaginary parts of the coefficients. Through a reduction to a normal form and detailed construction of singular solutions, we fully characterize when the system fails to be globally hypoelliptic.

Global hypoellipticity and solvability for a class of evolution operators in time-periodic weighted Sobolev spaces

We study the hypoellipticity and solvability properties of a class of time-periodic evolution operators, with coefficients globally defined on $\mathbb{R}^d$ and growing polynomially with respect to the space variable. To this aim, we introduce a class of time-periodic weighted Sobolev spaces, whose elements are characterised in terms of suitable Fourier expansions, associated with elliptic operators.

Globally solvable complexes of pseudo-differential operators on the torus

We consider a complex of pseudo-differential operators associated with an overdetermined system of operators defined on the torus. We characterize the global solvability of this complex when the system has constant coefficients. Furthermore, we establish some connections between the global solvability of the complex and the global solvability of its normal form.

Systems of differential operators in time-periodic Gelfand-Shilov spaces

This paper explores the global properties of time-independent systems of operators in the framework of Gelfand-Shilov spaces. Our main results provide both necessary and sufficient conditions for global solvability and global hypoellipticity, based on analysis of the symbols of operators. We also present a class of time-dependent operators whose solvability and hypoellipticity are linked to the same properties of an associated time-independent system, albeit with a loss of regularity for temporal variables.

Globally solvable time-periodic evolution equations in Gelfand-Shilov classes

In this paper we consider a class of evolution operators with coefficients depending on time and space variables $(t,x) \in \mathbb{T} \times \mathbb{R}^n$, where $\mathbb{T}$ is the one-dimensional torus and prove necessary and sufficient conditions for their global solvability in (time-periodic) Gelfand-Shilov spaces. The argument of the proof is based on a characterization of these spaces in terms of the eigenfunction expansions given by a fixed self-adjoint, globally elliptic differential operator on $\mathbb{R}^n$.

Time-periodic Gelfand-Shilov spaces and global hypoellipticity on $\mathbb{T} \times \mathbb{R}^n$

We introduce a class of time-periodic Gelfand-Shilov spaces of functions on $\mathbb{T} \times \mathbb{R}^n$, where $\mathbb{T} \sim \mathbb{R} /2π\mathbb{Z}$ is the one-dimensional torus. We develop a Fourier analysis inspired by the characterization of the Gelfand-Shilov spaces in terms of the eigenfunction expansions given by a fixed normal, globally elliptic differential operator on $\mathbb{R}^n$. In this setting, as an application, we characterize the global hypoellipticity for a class of linear differential evolution operators on $\mathbb{T} \times \mathbb{R}^n$.

Globally hypoelliptic triangularizable systems of periodic pseudo-differential operators

This article presents an investigation on the global hypoellipticity problem for systems belonging to the class $P = D_t + Q(t,D_x)$, where $Q(t,D_x)$ is a $m\times m$ matrix with entries $c_{j,k}(t)Q_{j,k}(D_x)$. The coefficients $c_{j,k}(t)$ are smooth, complex-valued functions on the torus $\mathbb{T} \simeq \mathbb{R}/2π\mathbb{Z}$ and $Q_{j,k}(D_x)$ are pseudo-differential operators on $ \mathbb{T}^n$. The approach consists in establishing conditions on the matrix symbol $Q(t,ξ)$ such that it can be transformed into a suitable triangular form $Λ(t,ξ) + \mathcal{N}(t,ξ)$, where $Λ(t,ξ)$ is the diagonal matrix $diag(λ_{1}(t,ξ) \ldots λ_{m}(t,ξ))$ and $\mathcal{N}(t,ξ)$ is a nilpotent upper triangular matrix. Hence, the global hypoellipticity of $P$ is studied by analyzing the behavior of the eigenvalues $λ_{j}(t,ξ)$ and its averages $λ_{0,j}(ξ)$, as $|ξ| \to \infty$.

Global ultradifferentiable hypoellipticity on compact manifolds

We study the global hypoellipticity problem for certain linear operators in Komatsu classes of Roumieu and Beurling type on compact manifolds. We present an approach by combining a characterization of these spaces via eigenfuction expansions, generated by an elliptic operator, and the analysis of matrix-symbols obtained by these expansions.

Global hypoellipticity for a class of periodic Cauchy operators

This note presents an investigation on the global hypoellipticity problem for Cauchy operators on $\mathbb{T}^{n+1}$ belonging to the class \linebreak $L = \prod_{j=1}^{m}\left(D_t + c_j(t) P_j(D_x)\right)$, where $P_j(D_x)$ is a pseudo-differential operator on $\mathbb{T}^n$ and $c_j = c_j(t)$, a smooth, complex valued function on $\mathbb{T}$. The main goal of this investigation consists in establishing connections between the global hypoellipticity of the operators $L$ and its normal form $L_0 = \prod_{j=1}^m \left( D_t + c_{0,j}P_j(D_x)\right)$. In order to do so, the problem is approached by combining Hörmander's and Siegel's conditions on the symbols of the operators $L_j = D_t + c_j(t) P_j(D_x)$.

Perturbations of globally hypoelliptic operators on closed manifolds

Inspired by results of A. Bergamasco on perturbations of vector fields defined on the two-dimensional torus, and of J. Delgado and M. Ruzhansky on properties of invariant operators with respect to an elliptic operator defined on a closed manifold, we give necessary and sufficient conditions to ensure that perturbations of a globally hypoelliptic operator defined on $\T\times M$, continue to be globally hypoelliptic, where $\T$ is the flat torus and $M$ is a closed smooth manifold. For this, we analyze the behavior, at infinity, of the sequences of eigenvalues generated by the family of matrices given by the restrictions of this on the eigenspaces of a fixed elliptic operator. As an application, we construct perturbations, invariant with respect to the Laplacian, of the vector field $D_t + ωD_x$ on $\T^2$. In the case where these perturbations commute with the operator $D_x$, our examples recover and extend some results of Bergamasco. Additionally, we construct examples of low order perturbations that destroy the global hypoellipticity, in the presence of diophantine phenomena.

Global hypoellipticity for a class of pseudo-differential operators on the torus

We show that an obstruction of number-theoretical nature appears as a necessary condition for the global hypoellipticity of the pseudo-differential operator $L=D_t+(a+ib)(t)P(D_x)$ on $\mathbb{T}^1_t\times\mathbb{T}_x^{N}$. This condition is also sufficient when the symbol $p(ξ)$ of $P(D_x)$ has at most logarithmic growth. If $p(ξ)$ has super-logarithmic growth, we show that the global hypoellipticity of $L$ depends on the change of sign of certain interactions of the coefficients with the symbol $p(ξ).$ Moreover, the interplay between the order of vanishing of coefficients with the order of growth of $p(ξ)$ plays a crucial role in the global hypoellipticity of $L$. We also describe completely the global hypoellipticity of $L$ in the case where $P(D_x)$ is positively homogeneous. Additionally, we explore the influence of irrational approximations of a real number in the global hypoellipticity.

Global Hypoellipticity for First-Order Operators on Closed Smooth Manifolds

The main goal of this paper is to address global hypoellipticity issues for the following class of operators: $L = D_t + C(t,x,D_x)$, where $(t,x) \in \mathbb{T} \times M$, $\mathbb{T}$ is the one-dimensional torus, $M$ is a closed manifold and $C(t,x,D_x)$ is a first order pseudo-differential operator on $M$, smoothly depending on the periodic variable $t$. In the case of separation of variables, namely, $C(t,x,D_x) = a(t)p(x,D_x)+ib(t)q(x,D_x)$, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the global hypoellipticity of $L$. In particular, we show that, under suitable conditions, the famous (P) condition of Niremberg-Treves is neither necessary nor sufficient to guarantee the global hypoellipticity of $L$.
