Efficient machine learning for motion sensing for lighting applications

The use of machine learning for building a classifier in signal processing for motion sensing presents unique challenges. This paper proposes a novel method that effectively addresses the combination of skewed data sets and optimization requirements. By utilizing a customized loss function and a product of probability models, our approach achieves a fully automated and efficient machine learning process. Additionally, our resulting probability models offer reduced complexity, making them ideal for embedded applications. Our method offers a promising solution for motion sensing applications that require accurate and efficient classification.

GPS Fit Method for Paths of Non Drunken Sailors and its Connection to Entropy

Estimating the altimeters a cyclist has climbed from noisy GPS data is a challenging problem. In this article a method is proposed that assumes that a person locally takes the shortest path. This results in an algorithm that does not need smoothing parameters. Moreover, it turns out that this assumption allows one to find a similarity between entropy and likelihood which results to the introduction of an entropic force.

Equal confidence weighted expectation value estimates

In this article the issues are discussed with the Bayesian approach, least-square fits, and most-likely fits. Trying to counter these issues, a method, based on weighted confidence, is proposed for estimating probabilities and other observables. This method sums over different model parameter combinations but does not require the need for making assumptions on priors or underlying probability functions. Moreover, by construction the results are invariant under reparametrization of the model parameters. In one case the result appears similar as in Bayesian statistics but in general there is no agreement. The binomial distribution is also studied which turns out to be useful for making predictions on production processes without the need to make further assumptions. In the last part, the case of a simple linear fit (a multi-variate example) is studied using the standard approaches and the confidence weighted approach.

New observables in longitudinal single-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive DIS

We analyze longitudinal beam and target single-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering and in jet deep inelastic scattering, including all possible twist-3 contributions as well as quark mass corrections. We take into account the path-ordered exponential in the soft correlators and show that it leads to the introduction of a new distribution and a new fragmentation function contributing to the asymmetries.
