Stable $uudd\bar s$ pentaquarks in the constituent quark model

The stability of strange pentaquarks $uudd\bar s$ is studied in a constituent quark model based on a flavor-spin hyperfine interaction between quarks. With this interaction model, which schematically represents the Goldstone boson exchange interaction between constituent quarks, the lowest lying strange pentaquark is a $p-$shell state with positive parity. The flavor-spin interaction lowers the energy of the lowest $p-$shell state below that of the lowest $s-$shell state, which has negative parity because of the negative parity of the strange antiquark. It is found that the strange pentaquark is stable against strong decay provided that the strange antiquark interacts by a fairly strong spin-spin interaction with $u$ and $d$ quarks. This interaction has a form that corresponds to $η$ meson exchange. Its strength may be inferred from the $π^0$ decay width of $D_s^*$ mesons.

Phase shift effective range expansion from supersymmetric quantum mechanics

Supersymmetric or Darboux transformations are used to construct local phase equivalent deep and shallow potentials for $\ell \neq 0$ partial waves. We associate the value of the orbital angular momentum with the asymptotic form of the potential at infinity which allows us to introduce adequate long-distance transformations. The approach is shown to be effective in getting the correct phase shift effective range expansion. Applications are considered for the $^1P_1$ and $^1D_2$ partial waves of the neutron-proton scattering.

Important configurations for NN processes in a Goldstone boson exchange model

We study the short-range nucleon-nucleon interaction in a nonrelativistic chiral constituent quark model by diagonalizing a Hamiltonian containing a linear confinement and a Goldstone boson exchange interaction between quarks. A finite six-quark basis obtained from single particle cluster model states was previously used. Here we show that the configurations which appear naturally through the use of molecular orbitals, instead of cluster model states, are much more efficient in lowering the six-quark energy.

The Nucleon-Nucleon Problem in Quark Models

In the first part we summarize the status of the nucleon-nucleon (NN) problem in the context of Hamiltonian based constituent quark models and present results for the l=0 phase shifts obtained from the Goldstone-boson exchange model by applying the resonationg group method. The second part deals with the construction of local shallow and deep equivalent potentials based on a Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics approach.

Phase equivalent chains of Darboux transformations in scattering theory

We propose a procedure based on phase equivalent chains of Darboux transformations to generate local potentials satisfying the radial Schrödinger equation and sharing the same scattering data. For potentials related by a chain of transformations an analytic expression is derived for the Jost function. It is shown how the same system of $S$-matrix poles can be differently distributed between poles and zeros of a Jost function which corresponds to different potentials with equal phase shifts. The concept of shallow and deep phase equivalent potentials is analyzed in connection with distinct distributions of poles. It is shown that phase equivalent chains do not violate the Levinson theorem. The method is applied to derive a shallow and a family of deep phase equivalent potentials describing the $^1S_0$ partial wave of the nucleon-nucleon scattering.

On a three-body confinement force in hadron spectroscopy

Recently it has been argued that a three-body colour confinement interaction can affect the stability condition of a three-quark system and the spectrum of a tetraquark described by any constituent quark model. Here we discuss the role of a three-body colour confinement interaction in a simple quark model and present some of its implications for the spectra of baryons, tetraquarks and six-quark systems.

On the exact solutions of the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model

We present the many-particle Hamiltonian model of Lipkin, Meshkov and Glick in the context of deformed polynomial algebras and show that its exact solutions can be easily and naturally obtained within this formalism. The Hamiltonian matrix of each $j$ multiplet can be split into two submatrices associated to two distinct irreps of the deformed algebra. Their invariant subspaces correspond to even and odd numbers of particle-hole excitations.

NN Scattering Phase Shifts in a Chiral Constituent Quark Model

We study the nucleon-nucleon interaction within a chiral constituent quark model which reproduces succesfully the baryon spectra. We calculate the 3S1 and 1S0 phase shifts by using the resonating group method. They clearly indicate the presence of a strong repulsive interaction at short distance, due to the spin-flavor symmetry of the quark-quark interaction and of the quark interchange between the two interacting nucleons. A sigma-exchange quark-quark interaction, providing a medium-range attraction, helps to get closer to the experimental phase shifts.

Nucleon-nucleon scattering in a chiral constituent quark model

We study the nucleon-nucleon interaction in a chiral constituent quark model by using the resonating group method, convenient for treating the interaction between composite particles. The calculated phase shifts for the 3S1 and 1S0 channels show the presence of a strong repulsive core due to the combined effect of the quark interchange and the spin-flavour structure of the effective quark-quark interaction. Such a symmetry structure stems from the pseudoscalar meson exchange between the quarks and is a consequence of the spontaneous breaking of the chiral symmetry. We perform single and coupled channel calculations and show the role of coupling of the $ΔΔ$ and hidden color CC channels on the behaviour of the phase shifts.

On a q-analogue of the spin-orbit coupling

Based on the tensor method, a q-analoque of the spin-orbit coupling is introduced in a q-deformed Schroedinger equation, previously derived for a central potential. Analytic expressions for the matrix elemnets of the representation j=l\pm 1/2 are derived. The spectra of the harmonic oscillator and the Coulomb potential are calculated numerically as a function of the deformation parameter, without and with the spin-orbit coupling. The harmonic oscillator spectrum presents strong analogies with the bound spectrum of an Woods-Saxon potential customarily used in nuclear physics. The Coulomb spectrum simulates relativistic effects. The addition of the spin-orbit coupling reinforces this picture.

Stability of Multiquark Systems

We give a brief review of developments in the field of exotic hadrons formed of more than three quarks and/or antiquarks. In particular we discuss the stability of multiquark systems containing heavy flavours. We show that the gluon exchange model and the chiral constituent quark model based on Goldstone boson (pseudoscalar meson) exchange give entirely different results.

Nucleon-Nucleon interaction in a chiral constituent quark model

We study the nucleon-nucleon (NN) problem as a six-quark system in a nonrelativistic chiral constituent quark model where the Hamiltonian contains a linear confinement and a pseudoscalar meson (Goldstone boson) exchange interaction between the quarks. This interaction has a long range Yukawa-type part, depending on the mass of the exchanged meson and a short range part, mainly responsible for the good description of the baryon spectra. We calculate the NN potential in the adiabatic approximation as a function of Z, the separation distance between the centres of the two three-quark clusters. The orbital part of the six-quark states is constructed either from the usual cluster model states or from molecular orbital single particle states. The latter are more realistic, having proper axially and reflectionally symmetries. In both cases the potential presents an important hard core at short distances, explained through the dominance of the [51]{FS} configuration. However in the molecular orbital basis the core is less repulsive, as a consequence of the fact that this basis gives a better upper bound for the energy of the six-quark system. We calculate the potential for the 3S1 and 3S0 channels with two different parametrizations. We find a small (few MeV) attractive pocket for one of these parametrizations. A middle range attraction is simulated by the addition of a sigma-meson exchange interaction between quarks, of a form similar to that of the pseudoscalar meson exchange. The present study is an intermediate, useful step towards dynamical calculations based on the resonating group method.

NN interaction in a Goldstone boson exchange model

Adiabatic nucleon-nucleon potentials are calculated in a six-quark nonrelativistic chiral constituent quark model where the Hamiltonian contains a linear confinement and a pseudoscalar meson (Goldstone boson) exchange interaction between quarks. Calculations are performed both in a cluster model and a molecular orbital basis, through coupled channels. In both cases the potentials present an important hard core at short distances, explained through the dominance of the [51]_{FS} configuration, but do not exhibit an attractive pocket. We add a scalar meson exchange interaction and show how it can account for some middle-range attraction.

The short-range baryon-baryon interaction in a chiral constituent quark model

The previous analysis of the short-range $NN$ repulsion originating from the Goldstone boson exchange hyperfine interaction between constituent quarks is revisited. We study in which respects the repulsion depends on the radial form of the spin-spin quark-quark force. We show that while the radial form affects the structure of the 6Q wave function, the short-range repulsion in the $NN$ system persists in any case. We extend our analysis to other $YN$ and $YY$ (flavor octet-octet) systems and demonstrate that the flavor-spin hyperfine interaction implies a short-range repulsion in these B=2 systems as well.

Scalar meson exchange and the baryon spectra

We explore the role of a scalar meson exchange interaction between quarks in a semirelativistic constituent quark model where the quarks are also subject to a linear confinement. We search for a variational solution and study how the spectrum evolves when the strength of the scalar meson exchange increases. Our results have good implications on the description of the low-lying baryon masses, especially on the long-standing problem of the relative position of the first positive-parity (Roper resonance) and the first orbitally excited states.

Scalar meson exchange and the baryon spectra

We explore the role of a scalar meson exchange interaction between quarks in a semirelativistic constituent quark model where the quarks are subject to a linear confinement. We search for a variational solution and show that the gap between the N=1 band and the ground state N=0 band increases with the strength of the scalar meson exchange interaction potential. This result has good implications on the description of the low-lying baryon resonances, especially on the Roper vs. negative parity resonances ordering.

Multiquark states in a Goldstone boson exchange model

We discuss the stability of multiquark systems containing heavy flavours. We show that the Goldstone boson exchange (GBE) model gives results at variance with the one-gluon-exchange (OGE) model, i.e. when the GBE model stabilizes a system the OGE model destabilizes it and vice-versa.
