Admissibility of Localizations of Crossed Modules

The correspondence between the concept of conditional flatness and admissibility in the sense of Galois appears in the context of localization functors in any semi-abelian category admitting a fiberwise localization. It is then natural to wonder what happens in the category of crossed modules where fiberwise localization is not always available. In this article, we establish an equivalence between conditional flatness and admissibility in the sense of Galois (for the class of regular epimorphisms) for regular-epi localization functors. We use this equivalence to prove that nullification functors are admissible for the class of regular epimorphisms, even if the kernels of their localization morphisms are not acyclic.

Non-existence of fiberwise localization for crossed modules

We prove that localization functors of crossed modules of groups do not always admit fiberwise (or relative) versions. To do so we characterize the existence of a fiberwise localization by a certain normality condition and compute explicit examples and counter-examples. In fact, some nullification functors do not behave well and we also prove that the fiber of certain nullification functors, known as acyclization functors in other settings such as groups or spaces, is not acyclic.

Split extensions and actions of bialgebras and Hopf algebras

We introduce a notion of split extension of (non-associative) bialgebras which generalizes the notion of split extension of magmas introduced by M. Gran, G. Janelidze and M. Sobral. We show that this definition is equivalent to the notion of action of (non-associative) bialgebras. We particularize this equivalence to (non-associative) Hopf algebras by defining split extensions of (non-associative) Hopf algebras and proving that they are equivalent to actions of (non-associative) Hopf algebras. Moreover, we prove the validity of the Split Short Five Lemma for these kinds of split extensions, and we examine some examples.

Crossed squares of cocommutative Hopf algebras

In this paper, we define the notion of Hopf crossed square for cocommutative Hopf algebras extending the notions of crossed squares of groups and of Lie algebras. We prove the equivalence between the category of Hopf crossed squares and the category of double internal groupoids in the category of cocommutative Hopf algebras. The Hopf crossed squares turn out to be the internal crossed modules in the category of crossed modules in the category of cocommutative Hopf algebras.

The Zassenhaus lemma in star-regular categories

The Noether isomorphism theorems and the Zassenhaus Lemma from group theory have a non-pointed version in a suitable categorical context first considered by W. Tholen in his PhD thesis. This article leads to a unification of these results with the ones in the pointed categorical context considered by O. Wyler, by working in the framework of star-regular categories introduced by M. Gran, Z. Janelidze and A. Ursini. Some concrete examples of categories where these results hold are examined in detail.

A semi-abelian extension of a theorem by Takeuchi

We prove that the category of cocommutative Hopf algebras over a field is a semi-abelian category. This result extends a previous special case of it, based on the Milnor-Moore theorem, where the field was assumed to have zero characteristic. Takeuchi's theorem asserting that the category of commutative and cocommutative Hopf algebras over a field is abelian immediately follows from this new observation. We also prove that the category of cocommutative Hopf algebras over a field is action representable. We make some new observations concerning the categorical commutator of normal Hopf subalgebras, and this leads to the proof that two definitions of crossed modules of cocommutative Hopf algebras are equivalent in this context.
