Automorphism groups of non-singular plane curves of degree 5

Henn and Komiya-Kuribayashi listed, independently, the groups $G$ for which $\widetilde{M_3^{Pl}(G)}$ is non-empty. In this paper, we determine the loci $\widetilde{M_6^{Pl}(G)}$, corresponding to non-singular degree $5$ projective plane curves, which are non-empty. Also, we present the analogy of Henn's results for quartic curves concerning non-singular plane model equations associated to these loci.

Plane non-singular curves with an element of "large" order in its automorphism group

In this note we determine, for an arbitrary but a fixed degree $d$, an algorithm to list the possible values $m$ for which $M_g^{Pl}(\mathbb{Z}/m)$ is non-empty where $\mathbb{Z}/m$ denotes the cyclic group of order $m$. In particular, we prove that $m$ should divide one of the integers: $d-1$, $d$, $d^2-3d+3$, $(d-1)^2$, $d(d-2)$ or $d(d-1)$. Secondly, consider a curve $δ\in M_g^{Pl}$ with $g=(d-1)(d-2)/2$ such that $Aut(δ)$ has an element of "very large" order, in the sense that this element is of order $d^2-3d+3$, $(d-1)^2$, $d(d-2)$ or $d(d-1)$. Then we investigate the groups $G$ for which $δ\in\widetilde{M_g^{Pl}(G)}$ and also we determine the locus $\widetilde{M_g^{Pl}(G)}$ in these situations. Moreover, we work with the same question when $Aut(δ)$ has an element of "large" order $\ell d$, $\ell (d-1)$ or $\ell(d-2)$ with $\ell\geq 2$ an integer.

Aspects of Iwasawa theory over function fields

We consider $\mathbb{Z}_p^{\mathbb{N}}$-extensions $\mathcal{F}$ of a global function field $F$ and study various aspects of Iwasawa theory with emphasis on the two main themes already (and still) developed in the number fields case as well. When dealing with the Selmer group of an abelian variety $A$ defined over $F$, we provide all the ingredients to formulate an Iwasawa Main Conjecture relating the Fitting ideal and the $p$-adic $L$-function associated to $A$ and $\mathcal{F}$. We do the same, with characteristic ideals and $p$-adic $L$-functions, in the case of class groups (using known results on characteristic ideals and Stickelberger elements for $\mathbb{Z}_p^d$-extensions). The final section provides more details for the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p^{\mathbb{N}}$-extension arising from the torsion of the Carlitz module: in particular, we relate cyclotomic units with Bernoulli-Carlitz numbers by a Coates-Wiles homomorphism.

Iwasawa Main Conjecture for the Carlitz cyclotomic extension and applications

We prove an Iwasawa Main Conjecture for the class group of the $\mathfrak{p}$-cyclotomic extension $\mathcal{F}$ of the function field $\mathbb{F}_q(θ)$ ($\mathfrak{p}$ is a prime of $\mathbb{F}_q[θ]\,$), showing that its Fitting ideal is generated by a Stickelberger element. We use this and a link between the Stickelberger element and a $\mathfrak{p}$-adic $L$-function to prove a close analog of the Ferrero-Washington theorem for $\mathcal{F}$ and to provide informations on the $\mathfrak{p}$-adic valuations of the Bernoulli-Goss numbers $β(j)$ (i.e., on the values of the Goss $ζ$-function at negative integers).

Characteristic ideals and Iwasawa theory

Let $Ł$ be a non-noetherian Krull domain which is the inverse limit of noetherian Krull domains $Ł_d$ and let $M$ be a finitely generated $Ł$-module which is the inverse limit of $Ł_d$-modules $M_d\,$. Under certain hypotheses on the rings $Ł_d$ and on the modules $M_d\,$, we define a pro-characteristic ideal for $M$ in $Ł$, which should play the role of the usual characteristic ideals for finitely generated modules over noetherian Krull domains. We apply this to the study of Iwasawa modules (in particular of class groups) in a non-noetherian Iwasawa algebra $\Z_p[[\Gal(\calf/F)]]$, where $F$ is a function field of characteristic $p$ and $\Gal(\calf/F)\simeq\Z_p^\infty$.

Characteristic ideals and Selmer groups

Let $A$ be an abelian variety defined over a global field $F$ of positive characteristic $p$ and let $\calf/F$ be a $\Z_p^{\N}$-extension, unramified outside a finite set of places of $F$. Assuming that all ramified places are totally ramified, we define a pro-characteristic ideal associated to the Pontrjagin dual of the $p$-primary Selmer group of $A$, in order to formulate an Iwasawa Main Conjecture for the non-noetherian commutative Iwasawa algebra $\Z_p[[\Gal(\calf/F)]]$ (which we also prove for a constant abelian variety). To do this we first show the relation between the characteristic ideals of duals of Selmer groups for a $\Z_p^d$-extension $\calf_d/F$ and for any $\Z_p^{d-1}$-extension contained in $\calf_d\,$, and then use a limit process.

On quadratic points of classical modular curves

Classical modular curves are of deep interest in arithmetic geometry. In this survey we show how the work of Fumiyuki Momose is involved in order to list the classical modular curves which satisfy that the set of quadratic points over $\mathbb{Q}$ is infinite. In particular we recall results of Momose on hyperelliptic modular curves and on automorphisms groups of modular curves. Moreover, we fix some inaccuracies of the existing literature in few statements concerning automorphism groups of modular curves and we make available different results that are difficult to find a precise reference, for example: arithmetical results on hyperelliptic and bielliptic curves (like the arithmetical statement of a Harris and Silverman theorem (or the case $d=2$ of a Abramovich and Harris theorem)) and on the conductor of elliptic curves over $\mathbb{Q}$ parametrized by X(N).

On Jannsen's conjecture for Hecke characters of imaginary quadratic fields

We present a collection of results on a conjecture of Jannsen about the $p$-adic realizations associated to Hecke characters over an imaginary quadratic field $K$ of class number 1. The conjecture is easy to check for Galois groups purely of local type. We prove the conjecture under a geometric regularity condition for the imaginary quadratic field $K$ at $p$, which is related to the property that a global Galois group is purely of local type. Without this regularity assumption at $p$, we present a review of the known situations in the critical case and in the non-critical case for the realizations associated to Hecke characters over $K$. We relate the conjecture to the non-vanishing of some concrete non-critical values of the associated $p$-adic $L$-function of the Hecke character. Finally, we prove that the conjecture follows from a general conjecture on Iwasawa theory for almost all Tate twists.

Galois actions on Q-curves and Winding Quotients

We prove two "large images" results for the Galois representations attached to a degree $d$ Q-curve $E$ over a quadratic field $K$: if $K$ is arbitrary, we prove maximality of the image for every prime $p >13$ not dividing $d$, provided that $d$ is divisible by $q$ (but $d \neq q$) with $q=2$ or 3 or 5 or 7 or 13. If $K$ is real we prove maximality of the image for every odd prime $p$ not dividing $d D$, where $D = \disc(K)$, provided that $E$ is a semistable Q-curve. In both cases we make the (standard) assumptions that $E$ does not have potentially good reduction at all primes $p \nmid 6$ and that $d$ is square-free.
