In this short note, we study the behavior of the algebraic entropy of birational automorphism groups in families of projective hyper-Kähler manifolds.
Let $L$ be a line bundle of negative degree on an elliptic curve $E$. While the ruled surface $M := \mathbb P(\mathcal O_E \oplus L)$ is one of the simplest varieties in algebraic geometry, its tangent bundle $T_M$ is surprisingly complex: we first show that the ring of symmetric tensors is not finitely generated. We then construct a holomorphic function on the canonical extension $Z_M$ which allows us to show that $Z_M$ is not Stein.
We study the birational geometry of hypersurfaces in projective varieties of the form $\mathbf{P}^1\times Z$, where $Z$ satisfies mild assumptions. Building on recent results of Herrera--Laface--Ugaglia, we study their Cox rings (when finitely generated) in terms of the Cox ring of $Z$. In particular, we obtain a complete picture when $Z$ is a Fano variety of dimension at least 3, and with class group of rank 1.
We introduce and study the class of primitive Enriques varieties, whose smooth members are Enriques manifolds. We provide several examples and we demonstrate that this class is stable under the operations of the Minimal Model Program (MMP). In particular, given an Enriques manifold $Y$ and an effective $\mathbb{R}$-divisor $B_Y$ on $Y$ such that the pair $(Y,B_Y)$ is log canonical, we prove that any $(K_Y+B_Y)$-MMP terminates with a minimal model $(Y',B_{Y'})$ of $(Y,B_Y)$, where $Y'$ is a $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial primitive Enriques variety with canonical singularities. Finally, we investigate the asymptotic theory of Enriques manifolds.
We study the behavior of birational automorphism groups in families of projective hyper-Kähler manifolds.
We develop the deformation theory of primitive Enriques varieties, which are defined as quasi-étale quotients of primitive symplectic varieties by nonsymplectic group actions. In particular, we establish a local Torelli theorem for primitive Enriques varieties. As applications thereof, we describe the behavior of certain primitive Enriques varieties under locally trivial deformations.
We study weighted Fano fourfolds of K3 type realized as hypersurfaces in weighted projective spaces. Under the additional assumption that the singular locus has dimension at most one, we prove that only finitely many such families exist. We provide the complete list and analyze their rationality properties, as well as their singularities.
Let $X$ be a projective irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifold. We associate with any big $\mathbf{R}$-divisor $D$ on $X$ a convex polygon $Δ_E^{\mathrm{num}}(D)$ of dimension 2, whose Euclidean volume is $\mathrm{vol}_{\mathbf{R}^2}(Δ_E^{\mathrm{num}}(D))=q_X(P(D))/2$, where $E$ is any prime divisor on $X$, $q_X$ is the Beauville-Bogomolov-Fujiki form, and $P(D)$ is the positive part of the divisorial Zariski decomposition of $D$. We systematically study these polygons and observe that they behave like the Newton-Okounkov bodies of big divisors on smooth complex projective surfaces, with respect to a general admissible flag.
We show that Kovács' result on the cone of curves of a K3 surface generalizes to any projective irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifold $X$. In particular, we show that if $ρ(X)\geq 3$, the pseudo-effective cone $\overline{\mathrm{Eff}(X)}$ is either circular or equal to $\overline{\sum_{E}\mathbf{R}^{\geq 0} [E]}$, where the sum runs over the prime exceptional divisors of $X$. The proof goes through hyperbolic geometry and the fact that (the image of) the Hodge monodromy group $\mathrm{Mon}^2_{\mathrm{Hdg}}(X)$ in $\text{O}^+(N^1(X))$ is of finite index. If $X$ belongs to one of the known deformation classes, carries a prime exceptional divisor $E$, and $ρ(X)\geq 3$, we explicitly construct an additional integral effective divisor, not numerically equivalent to $E$, with the same monodromy orbit as that of $E$. To conclude, we provide some consequences of the main result of the paper, for instance, we obtain the existence of uniruled divisors on certain primitive symplectic varieties.
We study the birational geometry of hypersurfaces in products of weighted projective spaces, extending results previously established by J. C. Ottem. For most cases where these hypersurfaces are Mori dream spaces, we determine all relevant cones and characterise their birational models, along with the small $\mathbf{Q}$-factorial modifications to them. We also provide a presentation of their Cox ring. Finally, we establish the birational form of the Kawamata-Morrison cone conjecture for terminal Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in Gorenstein products of weighted projective spaces.
Inspired by the work of Bauer, Küronya, and Szemberg, we provide for the big cone of a projective irreducible holomorphic symplectic (IHS) manifold a decomposition into chambers (which we describe in detail), in each of which the support of the negative part of the divisorial Zariski decomposition is constant. We see how the obtained decomposition of the big cone allows us to describe the volume function. Moreover, similarly to the case of surfaces, we see that the big cone of a projective IHS manifold admits a decomposition into simple Weyl chambers, which we compare to that induced by the divisorial Zariski decomposition. To conclude, we determine the structure of the pseudo-effective cone.
Given a projective hyper-Kähler manifold $X$, we study the asymptotic base loci of big divisors on $X$. We provide a numerical characterization of these loci and study how they vary while moving a big divisor class in the big cone, using the divisorial Zariski decomposition, and the Beauville-Bogomolov-Fujiki form. We determine the dual of the cones of $k$-ample divisors $\mathrm{Amp}_k(X)$, for any $1\leq k \leq \mathrm{dim}(X)$, answering affirmatively (in the case of projective hyper-Kähler manifolds) a question asked by Sam Payne. We provide a decomposition for the effective cone $\mathrm{Eff}(X)$ into chambers of Mori-type, analogous to that for Mori dream spaces into Mori chambers. To conclude, we illustrate our results with several examples.
