High-energy QCD dynamics from bottom flavor fragmentation at the Hi-Lumi LHC

We study the inclusive production of hadrons with bottom flavor at the LHC and its luminosity upgrade. We describe the collinear fragmentation of singly $b$-flavored hadrons, $B$ mesons and $Λ_b$ baryons, via the KKSS07 determination of fragmentation functions, while for charmed $B$ mesons, $B_c(^1S_0)$ and $B_c(^3S_1)$ particles, we employ the novel ZCFW22 set, built on the basis of state-of-the-art nonrelativistic QCD inputs. We use the JETHAD multimodular working environment to analyze rapidity and transverse-momentum distributions for observables sensitive to the associated emission of two hadrons or a hadron-plus-jet system. Our reference formalism is the NLL/NLO$^+$ hybrid collinear and high-energy factorization, where the standard collinear description is improved by the inclusions of energy logarithms resummed up to the next-to-leading approximation and beyond. We provide a corroborating evidence that $b$-flavor emissions act as fair stabilizers of the high-energy resummation, thus serving as valuable tools for precision studies of high-energy QCD. As a bonus, we highlight that the predicted production-rate hierarchy between noncharmed $b$-hadrons and charmed $B_c(^1S_0)$ mesons is in line with recent LHCb estimates. This serves as simultaneous benchmark both for the hybrid factorization and for the single-parton fragmentation mechanism based on initial-scale inputs calculated via the nonrelativistic QCD effective theory.

T-odd gluon distribution functions in a spectator model

We present a model calculation of T-odd transverse-momentum-dependent distributions of gluons in the nucleon. The model is based on the assumption that a nucleon can emit a gluon, and what remains after the emission is treated as a single spectator particle. This spectator particle is considered to be on-shell, but its mass is allowed to take a continuous range of values, described by a spectral function. The final-state interaction that is necessary to generate T-odd functions is modeled as the exchange of a single gluon between the spectator and the outgoing parton.

A high-energy QCD portal to exotic matter: Heavy-light tetraquarks at the HL-LHC

By taking advantage of the natural stability of the high-energy resummation, recently discovered in the context of heavy-flavor studies, we investigate the inclusive hadroproduction of a neutral heavy-light, hidden-flavored tetraquark ($X_{cu\bar{c}\bar{u}}$ or $X_{bs\bar{b}\bar{s}}$ state), in association with a heavy (single $c$- or $b$-flavored) hadron or a light jet at the (HL-)LHC. We make use of the JETHAD multi-modular working package to provide predictions for rapidity, azimuthal-angle and transverse-momentum distributions calculated via the hybrid high-energy and collinear factorization, where the Balitsky--Fadin--Kuraev--Lipatov resummation of energy logarithms is supplemented by collinear parton densities and fragmentation functions. We rely upon the single-parton fragmentation mechanism, valid in the large transverse-momentum regime, to describe the tetraquark production. Our study represents a first attempt at bridging the gap between all-order calculations of high-energy QCD and the exotics.

Towards a Muon Collider

A muon collider would enable the big jump ahead in energy reach that is needed for a fruitful exploration of fundamental interactions. The challenges of producing muon collisions at high luminosity and 10 TeV centre of mass energy are being investigated by the recently-formed International Muon Collider Collaboration. This Review summarises the status and the recent advances on muon colliders design, physics and detector studies. The aim is to provide a global perspective of the field and to outline directions for future work.

Spectator-model studies for spin-dependent gluon TMD PDFs at the LHC and EIC

We present novel analyses on accessing the 3D gluon content of the proton via spin-dependent TMD gluon densities, calculated through the spectator-model approach. Our formalism embodies a fit-based spectator-mass modulation function, suited to catch longitudinal-momentum effects in a wide kinematic range. Particular attention is paid to the time-reversal even Boer--Mulders and the time-reversal odd Sivers functions, whose accurate knowledge, needed to perform precise 3D analyses of nucleons, motivates synergies between LHC and EIC Communities.

Towards high-energy Higgs+jet distributions at NLL matched to NLO

We report progress on the study of the inclusive semi-hard hadroproduction of a Higgs+jet system at LHC and FCC collision energies. We describe a prototype matching procedure aimed at combining NLO fixed-order computations via POWHEG, with the NLL resummation of energy logarithms from JETHAD. We present preliminary analyses on assessing the weight of systematic uncertainties, such as the ones coming from finite top- and bottom-quark masses.

NLL/NLO$^-$ studies on Higgs-plus-jet production with POWHEG+JETHAD

We consider the semi-inclusive emission of a Higgs boson in association with a light-flavored jet separated by a large rapidity interval at the LHC. The accessed kinematic regimes fall into the so-called semi-hard sector, whose theoretical description lies at the intersection corner between the collinear factorization and the high-energy resummation. We present a prototype version of a matching procedure aimed at combining next-to-leading fixed-order (NLO) calculations from POWHEG with the resummation of next-to-leading energy logarithms (NLL) as obtained from JETHAD.

The high-energy QCD dynamics from Higgs-plus-jet correlations at the FCC

Recent analyses on high-energy inclusive Higgs-boson rates in proton collisions via the gluon-fusion channel, matched with the state of-the-art fixed-order N$^3$LO accuracy, have shown that the impact of high-energy resummation corrections reaches 10% at the FCC nominal energies. This supports the statement that electroweak physics at 100 TeV is expected to receive relevant contributions from small-$x$ physics. In this preliminary study we present novel predictions for transverse-momentum and rapidity distributions sensitive to the inclusive emission of a Higgs boson in association with a light-flavored jet in proton collisions, calculated within the NLL accuracy of the energy-logarithmic resummation. We highlight how high-energy signals for this process are already present and visible at current LHC energies, and they are also sizable at the FCC ones. We come out with the message that the improvement of fixed-order calculations on Higgs-sensitive QCD distributions is a core ingredient to reach the precision level in the description of observables relevant for the Higgs physics at the FCC.

The case for an EIC Theory Alliance: Theoretical Challenges of the EIC

We outline the physics opportunities provided by the Electron Ion Collider (EIC). These include the study of the parton structure of the nucleon and nuclei, the onset of gluon saturation, the production of jets and heavy flavor, hadron spectroscopy and tests of fundamental symmetries. We review the present status and future challenges in EIC theory that have to be addressed in order to realize this ambitious and impactful physics program, including how to engage a diverse and inclusive workforce. In order to address these many-fold challenges, we propose a coordinated effort involving theory groups with differing expertise is needed. We discuss the scientific goals and scope of such an EIC Theory Alliance.

Higgs boson production at next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy

It has been recently argued that the inclusive hadroproduction at the LHC of a Higgs boson in association with a jet can be sensitive to the high-energy dynamics. Moreover, the impact of the resummation at FCC energies is expected to be large also in the inclusive cross section for the main Higgs production channel in proton-proton collisions, namely the gluon fusion. As the energy increases, a pure $k_t$-factorization framework or a collinear-factorization approach supplemented by the high-energy resummation are adequate formalisms to describe these processes. In both cases, the fundamental missing ingredient for a next-to-leading logarithmic description is the Higgs boson impact factor. We present the full next-to-leading result for the forward Higgs impact factor, obtained in the infinite top-mass limit, discussing possible future extensions, such as the calculation of the impact factor in the central rapidity region.

High-energy resummed Higgs-plus-jet distributions at NLL/NLO* with POWHEG+JETHAD

We study the inclusive production, at hadron colliders, of a Higgs boson and a jet widely separated in rapidity. Kinematic sectors explored fall into the so-called semi-hard regime, where both fixed-order and high-energy dynamics come into play. Therefore, we propose a first version of a matching procedure aimed at combining NLO fixed-order computations, as obtained from POWHEG, with the NLL resummation of energy logarithms via JETHAD. According to our knowledge, this represents a novel implementation of a matching in the context of the high-energy resummation at NLL and for rapidity-separated two-particle final states.

Emergence of high-energy dynamics from cascade-baryon detections at the LHC

We propose the inclusive detection at the LHC of a cascade $Ξ^-/\barΞ^+$ baryon in association with a jet, as a novel probe channel for the QCD dynamics at high energies. We investigate the behavior of a selection of distributions, differential in rapidity, azimuthal angle and/or transverse momenta, calculated via the hybrid high-energy/collinear factorization encoding the full next-to-leading BFKL resummation of energy logarithms. We come out with the conclusion that the fragmentation mechanism underlying the production of $Ξ^-/\barΞ^+$ baryon states leads to stabilization effects of the resummation, similar to those recently observed in the context of heavy-flavor studies within the same formalism.

The high-energy limit of perturbative QCD: Theory and phenomenology

After a brief introduction of formal and phenomenological progresses in the study of the high-energy limit of perturbative QCD, we present arguments supporting the statement that the inclusive emission of Higgs bosons or heavy-flavored hadrons acts as fair stabilizer of high-energy resummed differential distributions. We come out with the message that the hybrid high-energy and collinear factorization, built in term of the next-to-leading logarithmic resummation \emph{à la} BFKL and supplemented by collinear parton distributions and fragmentation functions, is a valid and powerful tool to gauge the feasibility of precision analyses of QCD in its high-energy limit.

Towards leading-twist $T$-odd TMD gluon distributions

We present exploratory studies of the 3D proton tomography through polarized $T$-odd gluon TMDs at leading twist, obtained in a spectator-model framework. We embody in our approach a flexible parameterization for the spectator-mass spectral function, suited to catch both small- and moderate-$x$ effects. All these studies are relevant to unveil the gluon dynamics inside hadrons, which represents a core research line of studies at new-generation colliders, such as the Electron-Ion Collider, NICA-SPD, the High-Luminosity LHC, and the Forward Physics Facility.

A journey into the proton structure: Progresses and challenges

Unraveling the inner dynamics of gluons and quarks inside nucleons is a primary target of studies at new-generation colliding machines. Finding an answer to fundamental problems of Quantum ChromoDynamics, such as the origin of nucleon mass and spin, strongly depends on our ability of reconstructing the 3D motion of partons inside the parent hadrons. We present progresses and challenges in the extraction of TMD parton densities, with particular attention to the ones describing polarization states of gluons, which still represent an largely unexplored field. Then, we highlight connections with corresponding parton densities in the high-energy limit, the so-called unintegrated gluon distributions or UGDs and, more in general, to recent developments in high-energy physics.

Mueller-Navelet jets at the LHC: hunting data with azimuthal distributions

By making use of the hybrid collinear and high-energy factorization, where the BFKL resummation of leading and next-to-leading energy logarithms is combined with the standard description in terms of collinear parton densities, we compare predictions for Mueller-Navelet jet rapidity and angular differential rates with data collected by CMS at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV. We provide an evidence that the study of azimuthal distributions, calculated as a Fourier sum of correlation moments and embodying the high-energy signal coming from all conformal-spin modes, permits us to overcome the well-known issues emerging in the description of Mueller-Navelet final states at natural values of the renormalization scale. We come out with a clear indication that the next-to-leading BFKL description of these observables at natural scales is valid when the rapidity interval between the two jets is large, and it allows us to catch the core high-energy dynamics emerging from data.
