Wellposedness of a nonlinear peridynamic model

We consider an evolution equation inspired by a model in peridynamics, with a singular pairwise interaction force term, and we give global in time existence, uniqueness and stability results for the Cauchy problem.

AC-Driven Perovskite Light-Emitting Transistors

Perovskite light-emitting field-effect transistors (PeLEFETs) provide a versatile device architecture to control transport and electroluminescence properties of hybrid perovskites, enabling injection of high charge carrier density and spatial control of the radiative recombination zone. Ionic screening and organic cation polarization effects typical of metal-halide perovskites, however, critically affect PeLEFET efficiency and reliability. In this work, we demonstrate a new device operation mode based on high-frequency modulation of the applied voltages, which allows significant reduction of ionic drift/screening in methylammonium lead iodide light-emitting transistors. In optimized top contact PeLEFETs, AC operation results in brighter and more uniform electroluminescence compared to DC-driven devices. Moreover, high frequency modulation enables electroluminescence emission up to room temperature.

Variational Problems for Foppl-von Karman plates

Some variational problems for a Foppl-von Karman plate subject to general equilibrated loads are studied. The existence of global minimizers is proved under the assumption that the out-of-plane displacement fulfils homogeneous Dirichlet condition on the whole boundary while the in-plane displacement fulfils nonhomogeneous Neumann condition. If the Dirichlet condition is prescribed only on a subset of the boundary, then the energy may be unbounded from below over the set of admissible configurations, as shown by several explicit conterexamples: in these cases the analysis of critical points is addressed through an asymptotic development of the energy functional in a neighborhood of the flat configuration. By a $Γ$-convergence approach we show that critical points of the Foppl-von Karman energy can be strongly approximated by uniform Palais-Smale sequences of suitable functionals: this property leads to identify relevant features for critical points of approximating functionals, e.g. buckled configurations of the plate. Eventually we perform further analysis as the plate thickness tends to 0, by assuming that the plate is prestressed and the energy functional depends only on the transverse displacement around the given prestressed state: by this approach, first we identify suitable exponents of plate thickness for load scaling, then we show explicit asymptotic oscillating minimizers as a mechanism to relax compressive states in an annular plate.

Nonlinear waves in adhesive strings

We study a 1D semilinear wave equation modeling the dynamic of an elastic string interacting with a rigid substrate through an adhesive layer. The constitutive law of the adhesive material is assumed elastic up to a finite critical state, beyond such a value the stress discontinuously drops to zero. Therefore the semilinear equation is characterized by a source term presenting jump discontinuity. Well-posedness of the initial boundary value problem of Neumann type, as well as qualitative properties of the solutions are studied and the evolution of different initial conditions are numerically investigated.
