Light anti-nuclei in pp collisions at the LHC: production by coalescence and interaction of anti-nucleons

A unified afterburner framework is presented to describe nucleon--nucleon final-state interactions and light-(anti)nuclei production via coalescence in high-energy measured in pp collisions at the LHC collisions. The model reproduces qualitatively light-(anti)nuclei spectra without fine-tuning of the model parameters, as well as correlation observables, and can be extended to beyond proton--proton collisions.

Extension of the INFN Tier-1 on a HPC system

The INFN Tier-1 located at CNAF in Bologna (Italy) is a center of the WLCG e-Infrastructure, supporting the 4 major LHC collaborations and more than 30 other INFN-related experiments. After multiple tests towards elastic expansion of CNAF compute power via Cloud resources (provided by Azure, Aruba and in the framework of the HNSciCloud project), and building on the experience gained with the production quality extension of the Tier-1 farm on remote owned sites, the CNAF team, in collaboration with experts from the ALICE, ATLAS, CMS, and LHCb experiments, has been working to put in production a solution of an integrated HTC+HPC system with the PRACE CINECA center, located nearby Bologna. Such extension will be implemented on the Marconi A2 partition, equipped with Intel Knights Landing (KNL) processors. A number of technical challenges were faced and solved in order to successfully run on low RAM nodes, as well as to overcome the closed environment (network, access, software distribution, ... ) that HPC systems deploy with respect to standard GRID sites. We show preliminary results from a large scale integration effort, using resources secured via the successful PRACE grant N. 2018194658, for 30 million KNL core hours.

ALICE Highlights

Deconfined strongly interacting QCD matter is produced in the laboratory at the highest energy densities in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC. A selection of recent results from ALICE is presented, spanning observables from the soft sector (bulk particle production and correlations), the hard probes (charmed hadrons and jets) and signatures of possible collective effects in pp and p-Pb collisions with high multiplicity. Finally, the perspectives after the detectors upgrades, taking place in the period 2019-2020, are presented.

Anisotropic flow of identified particles in Pb-Pb collisions at \sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.76 TeV measured with ALICE at the LHC

We report on the elliptic and triangular flow measurements for a number of hadrons including charged pions, and (anti-)protons, as well as those with strangeness content: kaons, ${\rm ϕ}$-meson, ${\rm K^0_s}$, ${\rm Λ/\barΛ}$, ${\rm Ξ}$, and ${\rm Ω}$. The results reported cover mid--rapidity, $|η|<0.8$, and a wide, $0.2 < p_{\rm T} < 16$ GeV/$c$, transverse momentum range for Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV recorded by ALICE at the LHC. The mass splitting and the scaling properties of the elliptic flow with the number of constituent quarks and the particle transverse mass are studied as a function of collision centrality. The results are ompared to RHIC measurements and to hydrodynamic model predictions.
