Varieties of De Morgan bisemilattices

De Morgan bisemilattices are expansions of distributive bisemilattices by an involution satisfying De Morgan properties. They have attracted interest both as algebraic models of analytic containment logics, and as a case study for a certain generalisation of the Płonka sum construction (De Morgan- Płonka sums). In this paper, we provide a complete description of the lattice of subvarieties of the variety DMBL of De Morgan bisemilattices. For each subvariety in the lattice, we identify a finite set of finite generators, a characterisation of the De Morgan-Płonka representations of its members, and a syntactic description of its valid identities. In many cases, we also give an axiomatisation relative to DMBL.

Sequent calculi for first-order ST

Strict-Tolerant Logic (ST) underpins naive theories of truth and vagueness (respectively including a fully disquotational truth predicate and an unrestricted tolerance principle) without jettisoning any classically valid laws. The classical sequent calculus without Cut is sometimes advocated as an appropriate proof-theoretic presentation of ST. Unfortunately, there is only a partial correspondence between its derivability relation and the relation of local metainferential ST-validity - these relations coincide only upon the addition of elimination rules and only within the propositional fragment of the calculus, due to the non-invertibility of the quantifier rules. In this paper, we present two calculi for first-order ST with an eye to recapturing this correspondence in full. The first calculus is close in spirit to the Epsilon calculus. The other calculus includes rules for the discharge of sequent-assumptions; moreover, it is normalisable and admits interpolation.

Bochvar algebras: A categorical equivalence and the generated variety

The proper quasivariety BCA of Bochvar algebras, which serves as the equivalent algebraic semantics of Bochvar's external logic, was introduced by Finn and Grigolia in and extensively studied in a recent work by two of these authors. In this paper, we show that the algebraic category of Bochvar algebras is equivalent to a category whose objects are pairs consisting of a Boolean algebra and a meet-subsemilattice (with unit) of the same. Furthermore, we provide an axiomatisation of the variety $V(BCA) generated by Bochvar algebras. Finally, we axiomatise the join of Boolean algebras and semilattices within the lattice of subvarieties of V(BCA).

The higher dimensional propositional calculus

In recent research, some of the present authors introduced the concept of an n-dimensional Boolean algebra and its corresponding propositional logic nCL, generalising the Boolean propositional calculus to n>= 2 perfectly symmetric truth values. This paper presents a sound and complete sequent calculus for nCL, named nLK. We provide two proofs of completeness: one syntactic and one semantic. The former implies as a corollary that nLK enjoys the cut admissibility property. The latter relies on the generalisation to the n-ary case of the classical proof based on the Lindenbaum algebra of formulas and Boolean ultrafilters.

Boolean-like algebras of finite dimension

We continue the investigation of Boolean-like algebras of dimension n (nBA) having n constants e1,...,en, and an (n+1)-ary operation q (a "generalised if-then-else") that induces a decomposition of the algebra into n factors through the so-called n-central elements. Varieties of nBAs share many remarkable properties with the variety of Boolean algebras and with primal varieties. Exploiting the concept of central element, we extend the notion of Boolean power to that of semiring power and we prove two representation theorems: (i) Any pure nBA is isomorphic to the algebra of n-central elements of a Boolean vector space; (ii) Any member of a variety of nBAs with one generator is isomorphic to a Boolean power of this generator. This gives a new proof of Foster's theorem on primal varieties.

Intuitionistic Logic is a Connexive Logic

We show that intuitionistic logic is deductively equivalent to Connexive Heyting Logic (CHL), hereby introduced as an example of a strong connexive logic with intuitive semantics. We use the reverse algebraisation paradigm: CHL is presented as the assertional logic of a point regular variety (whose structure theory is examined in detail) that turns out to be term equivalent to the variety of Heyting algebras. We provide Hilbert-style and Gentzen-style proof systems for CHL; moreover, we suggest a possible computational interpretation of its connexive conditional, and we revisit Kapsner's idea of superconnexivity.

On PBZ*-lattices

We continue our investigation of paraorthomodular BZ*-lattices (PBZ*-lattices), started in \cite{GLP1+,PBZ2,rgcmfp,pbzsums,pbz5}. We shed further light on the structure of the subvariety lattice of the variety $\mathbb{PBZL}^{\ast }$ of PBZ*-lattices; in particular, we provide axiomatic bases for some of its members. Further, we show that some distributive subvarieties of $\mathbb{PBZL}^{\ast }$ are term-equivalent to well-known varieties of expanded Kleene lattices or of nonclassical modal algebras. By so doing, we somehow help the reader to locate PBZ*-lattices on the atlas of algebraic structures for nonclassical logics.

PBZ*-Lattices: Structure Theory and Subvarieties

We investigate the structure theory of the variety of \emph{PBZ*-lattices} and some of its proper subvarieties. These lattices with additional structure originate in the foundations of quantum mechanics and can be viewed as a common generalisation of orthomodular lattices and Kleene algebras expanded by an extra unary operation. We lay down the basics of the theories of ideals and of central elements in PBZ*-lattices, we prove some structure theorems, and we explore some connections with the theories of subtractive and binary discriminator varieties.

An Abstract Approach to Consequence Relations

We generalise the Blok-Jónsson account of structural consequence relations, later developed by Galatos, Tsinakis and other authors, in such a way as to naturally accommodate multiset consequence. While Blok and Jónsson admit, in place of sheer formulas, a wider range of syntactic units to be manipulated in deductions (including sequents or equations), these objects are invariably aggregated via set-theoretical union. Our approach is more general in that non-idempotent forms of premiss and conclusion aggregation, including multiset sum and fuzzy set union, are considered. In their abstract form, thus, deductive relations are defined as additional compatible preorderings over certain partially ordered monoids. We investigate these relations using categorical methods, and provide analogues of the main results obtained in the general theory of consequence relations. Then we focus on the driving example of multiset deductive relations, providing variations of the methods of matrix semantics and Hilbert systems in Abstract Algebraic Logic.

Ordinal and Horizontal Sums Constructing PBZ*-lattices

PBZ*-lattices are algebraic structures related to quantum logics, which consist of bounded lattices endowed with two kinds of complements, named {\em Kleene} and {\em Brouwer}, such that the Kleene complement satisfies a weakening of the orthomodularity condition and the De Morgan laws, while the Brouwer complement only needs to satisfy the De Morgan laws for the pairs of elements with their Kleene complements. PBZ*-lattices form a variety $\mathbb{PBZL}^{\ast }$, which includes the variety $\mathbb{OML}$ of orthomodular lattices (considered with an extended signature, by letting their two complements coincide) and the variety $V(\mathbb{AOL})$ generated by the class $\mathbb{AOL}$ of antiortholattices. We investigate the congruences of antiortholattices, in particular of those obtained through certain ordinal sums and of those whose Brower complements satisfy the De Morgan laws, infer characterizations for their subdirect irreducibility and prove that even the lattice reducts of antiortholattices are directly irreducible. Since the two complements act the same on the lattice bounds in all PBZ*-lattices, we can define the horizontal sum of any nontrivial PBZ*-lattices, obtained by glueing them at their smallest and at their largest elements; a horizontal sum of two nontrivial PBZ*-lattices is a PBZ*-lattice exactly when at least one of its summands is an orthomodular lattice. We investigate the algebraic structures and the congruence lattices of these horizontal sums, then the varieties they generate. We obtain a relative axiomatization of the variety $V(\mathbb{OML}\boxplus \mathbb{AOL})$ generated by the horizontal sums of nontrivial orthomodular lattices with nontrivial antiortholattices w.r.t. $\mathbb{PBZL}^{\ast }$, as well as a relative axiomatization of the join of varieties $\mathbb{OML}\vee V(\mathbb{AOL})$ w.r.t. $V(\mathbb{OML}\boxplus \mathbb{AOL})$.

On some properties of PBZ*-lattices

We continue the algebraic investigation of PBZ*-lattices, a notion introduced in [12] in order to obtain insights into the structure of certain algebras of effects of a Hilbert space, lattice-ordered under the spectral ordering.
