On complete intersections of three quadrics in $\mathbb{P}^7$

We describe explicit birational maps from some rational complete intersections of three quadrics in $\mathbb{P}^7$ to some prime Fano manifolds together with their Sarkisov decomposition via a single Secant Flop, allowing us to recover the cohomologically associated Castelnuovo surface of general type with $K^2=2$ and $χ=4$ (the double cover of $\mathbb{P}^2$ ramified along the discriminant curve of the net of quadrics defining the complete intersection) as the minimal model of the non ruled irreducible component of the base locus of the inverse maps. In passing we also revisit and reformulate the results in [arXiv:1706.01371] about the existence of infinitely many loci of rational complete intersection of three quadrics in $\mathbb{P}^7$ to produce explicitly some of these loci of low codimension together with many other irreducible unirational components of the Noether--Lefschetz locus.

Spinning Partial Waves for Scattering Amplitudes in $d$ Dimensions

Partial wave decomposition is one of the main tools within the modern S-matrix studies. We present a method to compute partial waves for $2\to2$ scattering of spinning particles in arbitrary spacetime dimension. We identify partial waves as matrix elements of the rotation group with definite covariance properties under a subgroup. This allows to use a variety of techniques from harmonic analysis in order to construct a novel algebra of weight-shifting operators. All spinning partial waves are generated by the action of these operators on a set of known scalar seeds. The text is accompanied by a {\it Mathematica} notebook to automatically generate partial waves. These results pave the way to a systematic studies of spinning S-matrix bootstrap and positivity bounds.

The $L^2$-norm of the forward stochastic integral w.r.t. Fractional Brownian motion $H > \frac{1}{2}$

In this article, we present the exact expression of the $L^2$-norm of the forward stochastic integral driven by the multi-dimensional fractional Brownian motion with parameter $\frac{1}{2} < H < 1$. The class of integrands only requires rather weak integrability conditions compatible w.r.t. a random finite measure whose density is expressed as a second-order polynomial of the underlying driving Gaussian noise. A simple consequence of our results is the exact expression of the $L^2$-norm for the pathwise Young integral.

The isometry of symmetric-Stratonovich integrals w.r.t. Fractional Brownian motion $H< \frac{1}{2}$

In this work, we present a detailed analysis on the exact expression of the $L^2$-norm of the symmetric-Stratonovich stochastic integral driven by a multi-dimensional fractional Brownian motion $B$ with parameter $\frac{1}{4} < H < \frac{1}{2}$. Our main result is a complete description of a Hilbert space of integrand processes which realizes the $L^2$-isometry where none regularity condition in the sense of Malliavin calculus is imposed. The main idea is to exploit the regularity of the conditional expectation of the tensor product of the increments $B_{t-δ,t+δ}\otimes B_{s-ε,s+ε}$ onto the Gaussian space generated by $(B_s,B_t)$ as $(δ,ε)\downarrow 0$. The Hilbert space is characterized in terms of a random Radon $σ$-finite measure on $[0,T]^2$ off diagonal which can be characterized as a product of a non-Markovian version of the stochastic Nelson derivatives. As a by-product, we present the exact explicit expression of the $L^2$-norm of the pathwise rough integral in the sense of Gubinelli.

Rough paths and symmetric-Stratonovich integrals driven by singular covariance gaussian processes

We examine the relation between a stochastic version of the rough path integral with the symmetric-Stratonovich integral in the sense of regularization. Under mild regularity conditions in the sense of Malliavin calculus, we establish equality between stochastic rough path and symmetric-Stratonovich integrals driven by a class of Gaussian processes. As a by-product, we show that solutions of multi-dimensional rough differential equations driven by a large class of Gaussian rough paths they are actually solutions to Stratonovich stochastic differential equations. We obtain almost sure convergence rates of the first-order Stratonovich scheme to rough paths integrals in the sense of Gubinelli. In case the time-increment of the Malliavin derivative of the integrands is regular enough, the rates are essentially sharp. The framework applies to a large class of Gaussian processes whose the second-order derivative of the covariance function is a sigma-finite non-positive measure on ${\mathbb R}^2$ + off diagonal.

Path-dependent Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation: Uniqueness of Crandall-Lions viscosity solutions

We formulate a path-dependent stochastic optimal control problem under general conditions, for which weprove rigorously the dynamic programming principle and that the value function is the unique Crandall-Lions viscosity solution of the corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation. Compared to the literature, the proof of our core result, that is the comparison theorem, is based on the fact that the valuefunction is bigger than any viscosity subsolution and smaller than any viscosity supersolution. It alsorelies on the approximation of the value function in terms of functions defined on finite-dimensionalspaces as well as on regularity results for parabolic partial differential equations.

A pde with drift of negative Besov index and linear growth solutions

This paper investigates a class of PDEs with coefficients in negative Besov spaces and whose solutions have linear growth. We show existence and uniqueness of mild and weak solutions, which are equivalent in this setting, and several continuity results. To this aim, we introduce ad-hoc Besov-H{ö}lder type spaces that allow for linear growth, and investigate the action of the heat semigroup on them. We conclude the paper by introducing a special subclass of these spaces which has the useful property to be separable.

BPS Black Hole Entropy and Attractors in Very Special Geometry. Cubic Forms, Gradient Maps and their Inversion

We consider Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and attractors in extremal BPS black holes of $\mathcal{N}=2$, $D=4$ ungauged supergravity obtained as reduction of minimal, matter-coupled $D=5$ supergravity. They are generally expressed in terms of solutions to an inhomogeneous system of coupled quadratic equations, named BPS system, depending on the cubic prepotential as well as on the electric-magnetic fluxes in the extremal black hole background. Focussing on homogeneous non-symmetric scalar manifolds (whose classification is known in terms of $L(q,P,\dot{P})$ models), under certain assumptions on the Clifford matrices pertaining to the related cubic prepotential, we formulate and prove an invertibility condition for the gradient map of the corresponding cubic form (to have a birational inverse map which is an homogeneous polynomial of degree four), and therefore for the solutions to the BPS system to be explicitly determined, in turn providing novel, explicit expressions for the BPS black hole entropy and the related attractors as solution of the BPS attractor equations. After a general treatment, we present a number of explicit examples with $\dot{P}=0$, such as $L(q,P)$, $1\leqslant q\leqslant 3$ and $P\geqslant 1$,or $L(q,1)$, $4\leqslant q\leqslant 9$, and one model with $\dot{P}=1$, namely $L(4,1,1)$. We also briefly comment on Kleinian signatures and split algebras. In particular, we provide, for the first time, the explicit form of the BPS black hole entropy and of the related BPS attractors for the infinite class of $L(1,P)$ $P\geqslant 2$ non-symmetric models of $\mathcal{N}=2$, $D=4$ supergravity.

On Sdes For Bessel Processes In Low Dimension And Path-dependent Extensions

The Bessel process in low dimension (0 $\le$ $δ$ $\le$ 1) is not an It{ô} process and it is a semimartingale only in the cases $δ$ = 1 and $δ$ = 0. In this paper we first characterize it as the unique solution of an SDE with distributional drift or more precisely its related martingale problem. In a second part, we introduce a suitable notion of path-dependent Bessel processes and we characterize them as solutions of path-dependent SDEs with distributional drift.

Path-dependent SDEs with jumps and irregular drift: well-posedness and Dirichlet properties

We discuss a concept of path-dependent SDE with distributional drift with possible jumps. We interpret it via a suitable martingale problem, for which we provide existence and uniqueness. The corresponding solutions are expected to be Dirichlet processes, nevertheless we give examples of solutions which do not fulfill this property. In the second part of the paper we indeed state and prove significant new results on the class of Dirichlet processes.

The power supply unit onboard the HERMES nano-satellite constellation

HERMES Pathfinder (High Energy Rapid Modular Ensemble of Satellites Pathfinder) is a space mission based on a constellation of nano-satellites in a low Earth Orbit, hosting new miniaturized detectors to probe the X-ray temporal emission of bright high-energy transients such as Gamma-Ray Bursts and the electromagnetic counterparts of Gravitational Waves. This ambitious goal will be achieved exploiting at most Commercial offthe-shelf components. For HERMES-SP, a custom Power Supply Unit board has been designed to supply the needed voltages to the payload and, at the same time, protecting it from Latch-Up events.

Rigorous Bounds on Light-by-Light Scattering

We bound EFT coefficients appearing in $2 \to 2$ photon scattering amplitudes in four dimensions. After reviewing unitarity and positivity conditions in this context, we use dispersion relations and crossing symmetry to compute sum rules and null constraints. This allows us to derive new rigorous bounds on operators with four, six, and eight derivatives, including two-sided bounds on their ratios. Comparing with a number of partial UV completions, we find that some of our bounds are saturated by the amplitudes that arise from integrating out a massive scalar or axion, while others suggest the existence of unknown amplitudes.

Weak Dirichlet processes and generalized martingale problems

In this paper we explain how the notion of ''weak Dirichlet process'' is the suitable generalization of the one of semimartingale with jumps. For such a process we provide a unique decomposition which is new also for semimartingales: in particular we introduce ''characteristics'' for weak Dirichlet processes. We also introduce a weak concept (in law) of finite quadratic variation. We investigate a set of new useful chain rules and we discuss a general framework of (possibly path-dependent with jumps) martingale problems with a set of examples of SDEs with jumps driven by a distributional drift.

McKean SDEs with singular coefficients

The paper investigates existence and uniqueness for a stochastic differential equation (SDE) with distributional drift depending on the law density of the solution. Those equations are known as McKean SDEs. The McKean SDE is interpreted in the sense of a suitable singular martingale problem. A key tool used in the investigation is the study of the corresponding Fokker-Planck equation.

Bounding Violations of the Weak Gravity Conjecture

The black hole weak gravity conjecture (WGC) is a set of linear inequalities on the four-derivative corrections to Einstein--Maxwell theory. Remarkably, in four dimensions, these combinations appear in the $2 \to 2$ photon amplitudes, leading to the hope that the conjecture might be supported using dispersion relations. However, the presence of a pole arising in the forward limit due to graviton exchange greatly complicates the use of such arguments. In this paper, we apply recently developed numerical techniques to handle the graviton pole, and we find that standard dispersive arguments are not strong enough to imply the black hole WGC. Specifically, under a fairly typical set of assumptions, including weak coupling of the EFT and Regge boundedness, a small violation of the black hole WGC is consistent with unitarity and causality. We quantify the size of this violation, which vanishes in the limit where gravity decouples and also depends logarithmically on an infrared cutoff. We discuss the meaning of these bounds in various scenarios. We also implement a method for bounding amplitudes without manifestly positive spectral densities, which could be applied to any system of non-identical states, and we use it to improve bounds on the EFT of pure photons in absence of gravity.

Homaloidal hypersurfaces and hypersurfaces with vanishing Hessian

We prove the existence of various families of irreducible homaloidal hypersurfaces in projective space $\mathbb P^ r$, for all $r\geq 3$. Some of these are families of homaloidal hypersurfaces whose degrees are arbitrarily large as compared to the dimension of the ambient projective space. The existence of such a family solves a question that has naturally arisen from the consideration of the classes of homaloidal hypersurfaces known so far. The result relies on a fine analysis of dual hypersurfaces to certain scroll surfaces. We also introduce an infinite family of determinantal homaloidal hypersurfaces based on a certain degeneration of a generic Hankel matrix. These examples fit non--classical versions of de Jonquières transformations. As a natural counterpoint, we broaden up aspects of the theory of Gordan--Noether hypersurfaces with vanishing Hessian determinant, bringing over some more precision to the present knowledge.

Trisecant Flops, their associated K3 surfaces and the rationality of some Fano fourfolds

We provide a new construction of rationality for cubic fourfolds via Mori's theory and the minimal model program. As an application, we present the solution of the Kuznetsov's conjecture for $d=42$ (the first open case). Our methods also show an explicit connection between the rationality of cubic fourfolds belonging to the first four admissible families $\mathcal C_d$, with $d=14,26,38$, and $42$ and some birational models of minimal K3 surfaces of degree $d$ contained in well known rational Fano fourfolds.

Fokker-Planck equations with terminal condition and related McKean probabilistic representation

Usually Fokker-Planck type partial differential equations (PDEs) are well-posed if the initial condition is specified. In this paper, alternatively, we consider the inverse problem which consists in prescribing final data: in particular we give sufficient conditions for existence and uniqueness. In the second part of the paper we provide a probabilistic representation of those PDEs in the form a solution of a McKean type equation corresponding to the time-reversal dynamics of a diffusion process.
