Entanglement Generation through Coherent and Non-Coherent Control

The controlled generation of quantum entanglement from separable states remains a central challenge in quantum information science. Here, we investigate entanglement generation using two related control paradigms: coherent path superposition of local unitary operations and stochastic implementations of Pauli channels under coherent control. We show that entangled states belonging to the Bell, GHZ and W classes, can be deterministically generated from fully separable inputs by coherently superposing alternative sets of local unitary transformations. Conditions on the local operators for entanglement generation are derived, and the resulting states are shown to be locally unitary equivalent to standard multipartite entangled states. We further extend the analysis to noisy scenarios, where separable mixed states evolve through pairs of Pauli channels arranged in path-superposition and indefinite causal order configurations. Closed-form expressions for the output states are obtained, and entanglement is quantified using concurrence. By exploring representative channel families across their parameter space, we identify regimes where stochastic entanglement emerges, determine the associated success probabilities, and characterize trade-offs between entanglement and purity.

Variability-finding in Rubin Data Preview 1 with LSDB

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory recently released Data Preview 1 (DP1) in advance of the upcoming Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), which will enable boundless discoveries in time-domain astronomy over the next ten years. DP1 provides an ideal sandbox for validating innovative data analysis approaches for the LSST mission, whose scale challenges established software infrastructure paradigms. This note presents a pair of such pipelines for variability-finding using powerful software infrastructure suited to LSST data, namely the HATS (Hierarchical Adaptive Tiling Scheme) format and the LSDB framework, developed by the LSST Interdisciplinary Network for Collaboration and Computing (LINCC) Frameworks team. This article presents a pair of variability-finding pipelines built on LSDB, the HATS catalog of DP1 data, and preliminary results of detected variable objects, two of which are novel discoveries.

A Partial Near-infrared Guide Star Catalog for Thirty Meter Telescope Operations

At first light, the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) near-infrared (NIR) instruments will be fed by a multiconjugate adaptive optics instrument known as the Narrow Field Infrared Adaptive Optics System (NFIRAOS). NFIRAOS will use six laser guide stars to sense atmospheric turbulence in a volume corresponding to a field of view of 2', but natural guide stars (NGSs) will be required to sense tip/tilt and focus. To achieve high sky coverage (50% at the north Galactic pole), the NFIRAOS client instruments use NIR on-instrument wavefront sensors that take advantage of the sharpening of the stars by NFIRAOS. A catalog of guide stars with NIR magnitudes as faint as 22 mag in the J band (Vega system), covering the TMT-observable sky, will be a critical resource for the efficient operation of NFIRAOS, and no such catalog currently exists. Hence, it is essential to develop such a catalog by computing the expected NIR magnitudes of stellar sources identified in deep optical sky surveys using their optical magnitudes. This paper discusses the generation of a partial NIR Guide Star Catalog (IRGSC), similar to the final IRGSC for TMT operations. The partial catalog is generated by applying stellar atmospheric models to the optical data of stellar sources from the Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS) optical data and then computing their expected NIR magnitudes. We validated the computed NIR magnitudes of the sources in some fields by using the available NIR data for those fields. We identified the remaining challenges of this approach. We outlined the path for producing the final IRGSC using the Pan-STARRS data. We have named the Python code to generate the IRGSC as irgsctool, which generates a list of NGS for a field using optical data from the Pan-STARRS 3pi survey and also a list of NGSs having observed NIR data from the UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey if they are available.

Simulating molecules using the VQE algorithm on Qiskit

Feynmans ideas to employ quantum systems for simulating other quantum systems gave rise to quantum simulation. While current quantum computers are still prone to decoherence and rely on error correction, the development of hybrid algorithms that employ both quantumand classical computation allow to perform quantum simulation. Among these algorithms, the Variational Quantum Eigensolver algorithm has permitted to explore the electronic structure of simple atoms and molecules by exploiting the Rayleigh Ritz variational principle. In this work we provide the implementation of the VQE algorithm for finding the ground state energy of the hydrogen molecule on Qiskit library for python.

Multifold behavior of the information transmission by the quantum 3-switch

We uncover new behaviors of the transmission of information by three quantum channels in superposition of causal orders subject to some level of noise. We find that the transmission can exhibit three different behaviors as the level of noise is varied. This multifold behavior can be explained by the different equivalence classes of quantum switch matrices related to specific combinations of causal orders. We classify these matrices using their characteristic polynomials and matrix invariants, and we calculate analytical expressions for the Holevo information in three representative cases. Our results are a step forward to understand and harness quantum control of causal orders with different levels of noise. We also study the Holevo information as function of a continuous order parameter and analyse transitions at integer values.

Predicting entanglement and coherent times in FMO complex using the HEOM method

Fenna-Matthews-Olson (FMO) bacteriochlorophylls (BChls) are molecules responsible of the high efficiency energy transfer in the photosynthetic process of green sulfur bacteria, controversially associated to quantum phenomena of long lived coherence. This phenomenon is modelled using Quantum Open Systems (QOS) without included memory effects of the surrounding approximated as a phonon bath on thermal equilibrium. This work applies the Hierarchical Equations of Motion method (HEOM), a non-Markovian approach, in the modelling of the system evolution of the FMO complex to perform predictions about the coherence time scales together with global and semi-local entanglement during the quantum excitation.

Featuring causal order in teleportation of two quantum teleportation channels

Causal order can improve the quantum information transmission in teleportation due a noisy entangled resource by using an appropriate measurement state on the control state ruling the causal order. In this work, we get analytically the fidelity for the entire process under an arbitrary measurement over such control state and then we get a perfect teleportation by selecting the optimal measurement on it. We also analyse other values characterizing the imperfect entangled state where a perfect teleportation can not be reached. Notably, we determine that the best fidelity does not depend on the probabilities of the control state but on the imperfect initial resource entangled.

Communication Enhancement Through Quantum Coherent Control of $N$ Channels in an Indefinite Causal-order Scenario

In quantum Shannon theory, transmission of information is enhanced by quantum features. Up to very recently, the trajectories of transmission remained fully classical. Recently, a new paradigm was proposed by playing quantum tricks on two completely depolarizing quantum channels i.e. using coherent control in space or time of the two quantum channels. We extend here this control to the transmission of information through a network of an arbitrary number $N$ of channels with arbitrary individual capacity i.e. information preservation characteristics in the case of indefinite causal order. We propose a formalism to assess information transmission in the most general case of $N$ channels in an indefinite causal order scenario yielding the output of such transmission. Then we explicitly derive the quantum switch output and the associated Holevo limit of the information transmission for $N=2$, $N=3$ as a function of all involved parameters. We find in the case $N=3$ that the transmission of information for three channels is twice of transmission of the two channel case when a full superposition of all possible causal orders is used.

Sending classical information via three noisy channels in superposition of causal orders

In this work, we study the transmission of classical information through three completely depolarizing channels in superposition of different causal orders. We thus introduce the quantum 3-switch as a resource for quantum communications. We perform a new kind of quantum control that was not accessible to the previously treated two-channel case. The fine and full quantum control achieved using selected combinations of causal orders let us uncover new features: non monotonous behavior on the transmission of information with respect to the number of causal orders involved, and different values of the transmission of information depending on the specific combinations of causal orders considered. Our results are a stepping stone to assess efficiency of coherent quantum control and optimize resources in the implementation of new indefinite causal structures. Finally, we suggest an optical implementation using standard telecom technology to test our predictions.

Entanglement of three-qubit random pure states

We study non-local properties of generic three-qubit pure states. First, we obtain the distributions of both the coefficients and the only phase in the five-term decomposition of Acín et al. for an ensemble of random pure states generated by the Haar measure on U(8). Furthermore, we analyze the probability distributions of two sets of polynomial invariants. One of these sets allows us to classify three-qubit pure states into four classes. Entanglement in each class is characterized using the minimal Rényi-Ingarden-Urbanik entropy. Besides, the fidelity of a three-qubit random state with the closest state in each entanglement class is investigated. We also present a characterization of these classes and the SLOCC classes in terms of the corresponding entanglement polytope.

LSST: from Science Drivers to Reference Design and Anticipated Data Products

(Abridged) We describe here the most ambitious survey currently planned in the optical, the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST). A vast array of science will be enabled by a single wide-deep-fast sky survey, and LSST will have unique survey capability in the faint time domain. The LSST design is driven by four main science themes: probing dark energy and dark matter, taking an inventory of the Solar System, exploring the transient optical sky, and mapping the Milky Way. LSST will be a wide-field ground-based system sited at Cerro Pachón in northern Chile. The telescope will have an 8.4 m (6.5 m effective) primary mirror, a 9.6 deg$^2$ field of view, and a 3.2 Gigapixel camera. The standard observing sequence will consist of pairs of 15-second exposures in a given field, with two such visits in each pointing in a given night. With these repeats, the LSST system is capable of imaging about 10,000 square degrees of sky in a single filter in three nights. The typical 5$σ$ point-source depth in a single visit in $r$ will be $\sim 24.5$ (AB). The project is in the construction phase and will begin regular survey operations by 2022. The survey area will be contained within 30,000 deg$^2$ with $δ<+34.5^\circ$, and will be imaged multiple times in six bands, $ugrizy$, covering the wavelength range 320--1050 nm. About 90\% of the observing time will be devoted to a deep-wide-fast survey mode which will uniformly observe a 18,000 deg$^2$ region about 800 times (summed over all six bands) during the anticipated 10 years of operations, and yield a coadded map to $r\sim27.5$. The remaining 10\% of the observing time will be allocated to projects such as a Very Deep and Fast time domain survey. The goal is to make LSST data products, including a relational database of about 32 trillion observations of 40 billion objects, available to the public and scientists around the world.

Modeling quantum information dynamics achieved with time-dependent driven fields in the context of universal quantum processing

Quantum information is a useful resource to set up information processing. Despite physical components are normally two-level systems, their combination with entangling interactions becomes in a complex dynamics. Studied for piecewise field pulses, this work analyzes the modeling for quantum information operations with fields affordable technologically towards a universal quantum computation model.

Universal quantum gates for Quantum Computation on magnetic systems ruled by Heisenberg-Ising interactions

The gate version of quantum computation exploits several quantum key resources as superposition and entanglement to reach an outstanding performance. In the way, this theory was constructed adopting certain supposed processes imitating classical computer gates. As for optical as well as magnetic systems, those gates are obtained as quantum evolutions. Despite, in certain cases they are attained as an asymptotic series of evolution effects. The current work exploits the direct sum of the evolution operator on a non-local basis for the driven bipartite Heisenberg-Ising model to construct a set of equivalent universal gates as straight evolutions for this interaction. The prescriptions to get these gates are reported as well as a general procedure to evaluate their performance.

Bell gems naturally split dynamics information from $SU(2^{2d}) \rightarrow U(1)^{2^{2d-1}-1} \times SU(2)^{2^{2d-1}}$

Quantum Computation and Quantum Information are continuously growing research areas which are based on nature and resources of quantum mechanics, as superposition and entanglement. In its gate array version, the use of convenient and appropriate gates is essential. But while those proposed gates adopt convenient forms for computational algorithms, in the practice, their design depends on specific quantum systems and stuff being used. Gates design is restricted to properties and limitations of interactions and physical elements being involved, where Quantum Control plays a deep role. Quantum complexity of multipartite systems and their interactions requires a tight control to manipulate their quantum states, either local and non-local ones, but still a reducibility procedure should be addressed. This work shows how a general $2d$-partite two level spin system in $SU(2d)$ could be decomposed in $2^{n-1}$ subsystems on $SU(2)$, letting establish control operations. In particular, it is shown that Bell gems basis is a set of natural states on which decomposition happen naturally under some interaction restrictions. Thus, alternating the direction of local interaction terms in the Hamiltonian, this procedure states a universal exchange semantics on those basis. The structure developed could be understood as a splitting of the $2d$ information channels into $2^{2d-1}$ pairs of $2$ level information subsystems.

Teleportation based on control of anisotropic Ising interaction in three dimensions

Possibly, teleportation is the most representative quantum algorithm in the public domain. Nevertheless than this quantum procedure transmits only information than objects, its coverage is still very limited and easily subject to errors. Based on a fine control of quantum resources, particularly those entangled, the research to extend its coverage and flexibility is open, in particular on matter based quantum systems. This work shows how anisotropic Ising interactions could be used as natural basis for this procedure, based on a sequence of magnetic pulses driving Ising interaction, stating results in specialized quantum gates designed for magnetic systems.

Generation of non-local evolution loops and exchange operations for quantum control in three dimensional anisotropic Ising model

Control of quantum entanglement has been considered as elemental physical resource for quantum applications in Quantum Information and Quantum Computation. Control of entangled states on a couple of atoms, ions or quantum dots are milestones in almost all quantum applications towards a scalable spin-based quantum computers or quantum devices. For magnetic systems, Ising model is an interaction which generates and modifies entanglement properties of quantum systems based on matter. In addition, when this interaction includes driven magnetic fields, it can be controlled to sustain, characterize or modify entanglement and other quantum properties. In this work, recent results about evolution in a general anisotropic three dimensional Ising model including an inhomogeneous magnetic field is considered to obtain some general quantum control effects for their sustainability, programmed evolution or transformation: Evolution loops and Exchange operations. This control is achievable through a set of physical parameters, whose prescriptions are reported. The use of a non local basis in the model to express time evolution lets take advantage to describe and control the system, in particular with those issues associated with entanglement and operations mentioned before. Finally, some analysis about equivalent gates based on our development is made including an example with teleportation, using one of the gates constructed.

Algebraic and group structure for bipartite three dimensional anisotropic Ising model on a non-local basis

Entanglement is considered as a basic physical resource for modern quantum applications in Quantum Information and Quantum Computation theories. Interactions able to generate and sustain entanglement are subject to deep research in order to have understanding and control on it, based on specific physical systems. Atoms, ions or quantum dots are considered a key piece in quantum applications because is a basic piece of developments towards a scalable spin-based quantum computer through universal and basic quantum operations. Ising model is a type of interaction which generates and modifies entanglement properties of quantum systems based on matter. In this work, a general anisotropic three dimensional Ising model including an inhomogeneous magnetic field is analyzed to obtain their evolution and then, their algebraic properties which are controlled through a set of physical parameters. Evolution denote remarkable group properties when is analyzed in a non local basis, in particular those related with entanglement. These properties give a fruitful arena for further quantum applications and their control.

Factorization of unitary matrices induced by 3D anisotropic Ising interaction

Quantum computation is a continuously growing research area which is based on nature and resources of quantum mechanics, as superposition and entanglement. In its quantum circuits version, the use of convenient and appropriate gates is essential. But while those gates adopt convenient forms for computational algorithms, their design depends on specific quantum systems and stu? being used. These gates need manage quantum systems based on physical interactions ruled by quantum Hamiltonians. With this, gates design is restricted to properties and limitations of interactions and physical elements being involved. This work shows how anisotropic Ising interactions, written in a non local basis, lets reproduce elementary operations in terms of which unitary processes can be factorized. In this sense, gates could be written as a sequence of pulses ruled by that interaction driven by magnetic fields, stating alternative results in quantum gates design for magnetic systems.
