Attractive and repulsive Yang-Mills--Higgs magnetic monopoles on $\mathbb{R}^3$

An $SO(3)$-gauged Higgs model on $\mathbb{R}^3$ is proposed that, like the Abelian Higgs model on $\mathbb{R}^2$, features both attractive and repulsive phases, though unlike the latter its solutions do not saturate the topological lower bound. What distinguishes this model is that its energy is stabilised by the "Higgs analogue of the Chern-Pontryagin" charge, rather than the usual "Higgs--Chern-Pontryagin" charge which is a dimensional descendant of the Chern-Pontryagin charge.

Excited solutions in a Skyrme--Chern-Simons model in $2+1$ dimensions

We study excited solutions in a Skyrme--Chern-Simons theory in $2+1$ dimensions. In particular, we emphasize the necessity of using a Lagrange multiplier method to obtain excited solutions, due to the appearance of a discontinuity when using a constraint compliant parametrization. These solutions are characterized by an integer number $p$, excited solutions corresponding to $p\neq 0$. The dependence of the global charges on the parameters is analyzed, showing non-standard behaviors. We also find that the presence of the Skyrme--Chern-Simons term does not alter significantly the pattern of energy levels, so $p=0$ solutions (fundamental solutions) have always the minimal energy.

Quadrupole perturbations of slowly spinning Ellis-Bronnikov wormholes

We study the axial and polar perturbations of slowly rotating Ellis-Bronnikov wormholes in General Relativity, applying a perturbative double expansion. In particular, we derive the equations for $l=2$, $M_z=2$ perturbations of these objects which are parametrized by an asymmetry parameter. The equations constitute an astrophysically interesting sector of the perturbations that contribute dominantly to the gravitational wave radiation. Moreover, calculation of these modes may exhibit potential instabilities in the quadrupole sector.

Quasinormal modes of rapidly rotating Ellis-Bronnikov wormholes

We present for the first time a study of the quasinormal modes of rapidly rotating Ellis-Bronnikov wormholes in General Relativity. We compute the spectrum of the wormholes using a spectral decomposition of the metric perturbations on a numerical background. We focus on the $M_z=2,3$ sector of the perturbations, and show that the triple isospectrality of the symmetric and static Ellis-Bronnikov wormhole is broken due to rotation, giving rise to a much richer spectrum than the spectrum of Kerr black holes. We do not find any instabilities for $M_z=2,3$ perturbations.

New black holes in $D=5$ minimal gauged supergravity: Deformed boundaries and frozen horizons

A new class of black hole solutions of the five dimensional minimal gauged supergravity is presented. They are characterized by the mass, the electric charge, two equal magnitude angular momenta and the magnitude of the magnetic potential at infinity. These black holes possess a horizon of spherical topology; however, both the horizon and the sphere at infinity can be arbitrarily squashed, with nonextremal solutions interpolating between black strings and black branes. A particular set of extremal configurations corresponds to a new one-parameter family of supersymmetric black holes. While their conserved charges are determined by the squashing of the sphere at infinity, these supersymmetric solutions possess the same horizon geometry.

Squashed, magnetized black holes in $D=5$ minimal gauged supergravity

We construct a new class of black hole solutions in five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory with a negative cosmological constant. These configurations are cohomogeneity-1, with two equal-magnitude angular momenta. In the generic case, they possess a non-vanishing magnetic potential at infinity with a boundary metric which is the product of time and a squashed three-dimensional sphere. Both extremal and non-extremal black holes are studied. The non-extremal black holes satisfying a certain relation between electric charge, angular momenta and magnitude of the magnetic potential at infinity do not trivialize in the limit of vanishing event horizon size, becoming particle-like (non-topological) solitonic configurations. Among the extremal black holes, we show the existence of a new one-parameter family of supersymmetric solutions, which bifurcate from a critical Gutowski-Reall configuration.

Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons Black Holes

Black holes in 5-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons (EMCS) theory and their intriguing properties are discussed. For the special case of the CS coupling constant $λ=λ_{SG}$, as obtained from supergravity, a closed form solution is known for the rotating black holes. Beyond this supergravity value, the EMCS black hole solutions can e.g. exhibit nonuniqueness and form sequences of radially excited solutions. In the presence of a negative cosmological constant the black holes can possess an extra-parameter corresponding to a magnetic flux in addition to the mass, electric charge and angular momenta. This latter family of black holes possesses also a solitonic limit. Finally, a new class of squashed EMCS black hole solutions is discussed.

AdS$_5$ magnetized solutions in minimal gauged supergravity

We construct a generalization of the AdS charged rotating black holes with two equal magnitude angular momenta in five-dimensional minimal gauged supergravity. In addition to the mass, electric charge and angular momentum, the new solutions possess an extra-parameter associated with a non-zero magnitude of the magnetic potential at infinity. In contrast with the known cases, these new black holes possess a non-trivial zero-horizon size limit which describes a one parameter family of spinning charged solitons. All configurations reported in this work approach asymptotically an AdS$_5$ spacetime in global coordinates and are free of pathologies.

Charged rotating black holes in Einstein--Maxwell--Chern-Simons theory with a negative cosmological constant

We consider rotating black hole solutions in five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory with a negative cosmological constant and a generic value of the Chern-Simons coupling constant $λ$. Using both analytical and numerical techniques, we focus on cohomogeneity-1 configurations, with two equal-magnitude angular momenta, which approach at infinity a globally AdS background. We find that the generic solutions share a number of basic properties with the known Cvetic, Lü and Pope black holes which have $λ=1$. New features occur as well, for example, when the Chern-Simons coupling constant exceeds a critical value, the solutions are no longer uniquely determined by their global charges. Moreover, the black holes possess radial excitations which can be labelled by the node number of the magnetic gauge potential function. Solutions with small values of $λ$ possess other distinct features. For instance, the extremal black holes there form two disconnected branches, while not all near-horizon solutions are associated with global solutions.

Static Einstein-Maxwell Magnetic Solitons and Black Holes in an Odd Dimensional AdS Spacetime

We construct a new class of Einstein-Maxwell static solutions with a magnetic field in $D$-dimensions (with $D\geq 5$ an odd number), approaching at infinity a globally Anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime. In addition to the mass, the new solutions possess an extra-parameter associated with a non-zero magnitude of the magnetic potential at infinity. Some of the black holes possess a non-trivial zero-horizon size limit, which corresponds to a solitonic deformation of the AdS background.

Radial excitations of non-static $J=0$ black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons gravity

We study the generalization of the Kerr-Newmann black hole in 5D Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory with free Chern-Simons coupling parameter. These black holes possess equal magnitude angular momenta and an event horizon of spherical topology. We focus on the extremal case with zero temperature. We find that, when the Chern-Simons coupling is greater than two times the supergravity case, new branches of black holes are found which violate uniqueness. In particular, a sequence of these black holes are non-static radially excited solutions with vanishing angular momentum. They approach the Reissner-Nordström solution as the excitation level increases.

Axial quasi-normal modes of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-dilaton neutron stars

We investigate axial quasi-normal modes of realistic neutron stars in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-dilaton gravity. We consider 8 realistic equations of state containing nuclear, hyperonic, and hybrid matter. We focus on the fundamental curvature mode and compare the results with those of pure Einstein theory. We observe that the frequency of the modes is increased by the presence of the Gauss-Bonnet-dilaton, while the impact on the damping time is typically smaller. Interestingly, we obtain that universal relations valid in pure Einstein theory still hold for Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-dilaton gravity, and we propose a method to use these phenomenological relations to constrain the value of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling.

Radially excited rotating black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory

Rotating black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory possess remarkable features, when the Chern-Simons coupling constant reaches a critical value. Representing single asymptotically flat black holes with horizons of spherical topology, they exhibit non-uniqueness. In particular, there even exist extremal and non-extremal black holes with the same sets of global charges. Both extremal and non-extremal black holes form sequences of radially excited solutions, that can be labeled by the node number of the magnetic gauge potential function. The extremal Reissner-Nordström solution is no longer always located on the boundary of the domain of existence of these black holes, and it neither remains the single extremal solution with vanishing angular momentum. Instead a whole sequence of rotating extremal $J=0$ solutions is present, whose mass converges towards the mass of the Reissner-Nordström solution. These radially excited extremal solutions are all associated with the same near horizon solution. Moreover, there are near horizon solutions that are not realized as global solutions.

Stationary Dyonic Regular and Black Hole Solutions

We consider globally regular and black hole solutions in SU(2) Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs theory, coupled to a dilaton field. The basic solutions represent magnetic monopoles, monopole-antimonopole systems or black holes with monopole or dipole hair. When the globally regular solutions carry additionally electric charge, an angular momentum density results, except in the simplest spherically symmetric case. We evaluate the global charges of the solutions and their effective action, and analyze their dependence on the gravitational coupling strength. We show, that in the presence of a dilaton field, the black hole solutions satisfy a generalized Smarr type mass formula.

Stationary Black Holes with Static and Counterrotating Horizons

We show that rotating dyonic black holes with static and counterrotating horizon exist in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory when the dilaton coupling constant exceeds the Kaluza-Klein value. The black holes with static horizon bifurcate from the static black holes. Their mass decreases with increasing angular momentum, their horizons are prolate.
