On the radius of Gaussian free field excursion clusters

We consider the Gaussian free field $φ$ on $\mathbb{Z}^d$, for $d\geq3$, and give sharp bounds on the probability that the radius of a finite cluster in the excursion set $\{φ\geq h\}$ exceeds a large value $N$, for any height $h \neq h_*$, where $h_*$ refers to the corresponding percolation critical parameter. In dimension $d=3$, we prove that this probability is sub-exponential in $N$ and decays as $\exp\{-\fracπ{6}(h-h_*)^2 \frac{N}{\log N} \}$ as $N \to \infty$ to principal exponential order. When $d\geq 4$, we prove that these tails decay exponentially in $N$. Our results extend to other quantities of interest, such as truncated two-point functions and the two-arms probability for annuli crossings at scale N.

Gap at 1 for the percolation threshold of Cayley graphs

We prove that the set of possible values for the percolation threshold $p_c$ of Cayley graphs has a gap at 1 in the sense that there exists $\varepsilon_0>0$ such that for every Cayley graph $G$ one either has $p_c(G)=1$ or $p_c(G) \leq 1-\varepsilon_0$. The proof builds on the new approach of Duminil-Copin, Goswami, Raoufi, Severo & Yadin to the existence of phase transition using the Gaussian free field, combined with the finitary version of Gromov's theorem on the structure of groups of polynomial growth of Breuillard, Green & Tao.

Analyticity of Gaussian free field percolation observables

We prove that cluster observables of level-sets of the Gaussian free field on the hypercubic lattice $\mathbb{Z}^d$, $d\geq3$, are analytic on the whole off-critical regime $\mathbb{R}\setminus\{h_*\}$. This result concerns in particular the percolation density function $θ(h)$ and the (truncated) susceptibility $χ(h)$. As an important step towards the proof, we show the exponential decay in probability for the capacity of a finite cluster for all $h\neq h_*$, which we believe to be a result of independent interest. We also discuss the case of general transient graphs.

Sharp phase transition for Gaussian percolation in all dimensions

We consider the level-sets of continuous Gaussian fields on $\mathbb{R}^d$ above a certain level $-\ell\in \mathbb{R}$, which defines a percolation model as $\ell$ varies. We assume that the covariance kernel satisfies certain regularity, symmetry and positivity conditions as well as a polynomial decay with exponent greater than $d$ (in particular, this includes the Bargmann-Fock field). Under these assumptions, we prove that the model undergoes a sharp phase transition around its critical point $\ell_c$. More precisely, we show that connection probabilities decay exponentially for $\ell<\ell_c$ and percolation occurs in sufficiently thick 2D slabs for $\ell>\ell_c$. This extends results recently obtained in dimension $d=2$ to arbitrary dimensions through completely different techniques. The result follows from a global comparison with a truncated (i.e. with finite range of dependence) and discretized (i.e. defined on the lattice $\varepsilon\mathbb{Z}^d$) version of the model, which may be of independent interest. The proof of this comparison relies on an interpolation scheme that integrates out the long-range and infinitesimal correlations of the model while compensating them with a slight change in the parameter $\ell$.

Existence of phase transition for percolation using the Gaussian Free Field

In this paper, we prove that Bernoulli percolation on bounded degree graphs with isoperimetric dimension $d>4$ undergoes a non-trivial phase transition (in the sense that $p_c<1$). As a corollary, we obtain that the critical point of Bernoulli percolation on infinite quasi-transitive graphs (in particular, Cayley graphs) with super-linear growth is strictly smaller than 1, thus answering a conjecture of Benjamini and Schramm. The proof relies on a new technique consisting in expressing certain functionals of the Gaussian Free Field (GFF) in terms of connectivity probabilities for percolation model in a random environment. Then, we integrate out the randomness in the edge-parameters using a multi-scale decomposition of the GFF. We believe that a similar strategy could lead to proofs of the existence of a phase transition for various other models.

Strict monotonicity of percolation thresholds under covering maps

We answer a question of Benjamini and Schramm by proving that under reasonable conditions, quotienting a graph strictly increases the value of its percolation critical parameter $p_c$. More precisely, let $\mathcal{G}=(V,E)$ be a quasi-transitive graph with $p_c(\mathcal{G})<1$, and let $G$ be a nontrivial group that acts freely on $V$ by graph automorphisms. Assume that $\mathcal{H}:=\mathcal{G}/G$ is quasi-transitive. Then one has $p_c(\mathcal{G})<p_c(\mathcal{H})$. We provide results beyond this setting: we treat the case of general covering maps and provide a similar result for the uniqueness parameter $p_u$, under an additional assumption of boundedness of the fibres. The proof makes use of a coupling built by lifting the exploration of the cluster, and an exploratory counterpart of Aizenman-Grimmett's essential enhancements.
