Lagrangian solutions to the 2D euler system with L^1 vorticity and infinite energy

We consider solutions to the two-dimensional incompressible Euler system with only integrable vorticity, thus with possibly locally infinite energy. With such regularity, we use the recently developed theory of Lagrangian flows associated to vector fields with gradient given by a singular integral in order to define Lagrangian solutions, for which the vorticity is transported by the flow. We prove strong stability of these solutions via strong convergence of the flow, under only the assumption of L^1 weak convergence of the initial vorticity. The existence of Lagrangian solutions to the Euler system follows for arbitrary L^1 vorticity. Relations with previously known notions of solutions are established.

Lagrangian solutions to the Vlasov-Poisson system with L^1 density

The recently developed theory of Lagrangian flows for transport equations with low regularity coefficients enables to consider non BV vector fields. We apply this theory to prove existence and stability of global Lagrangian solutions to the repulsive Vlasov-Poisson system with only integrable initial distribution function with finite energy. These solutions have a well-defined Lagrangian flow. An a priori estimate on the smallness of the superlevels of the flow in three dimensions is established in order to control the characteristics.

Lagrangian flows for vector fields with anisotropic regularity

We prove quantitative estimates for flows of vector fields subject to anisotropic regularity conditions: some derivatives of some components are (singular integrals of) measures, while the remaining derivatives are (singular integrals of) integrable functions. This is motivated by the regularity of the vector field in the Vlasov-Poisson equation with measure density. The proof exploits an anisotropic variant of the argument of Crippa and De Lellis and suitable estimates for the difference quotients in such anisotropic context. In contrast to regularization methods, this approach gives quantitative estimates in terms of the given regularity bounds. From such estimates it is possible to recover the well posedness for the ordinary differential equation and for Lagrangian solutions to the continuity and transport equations.

Uniqueness and weak stability for multi-dimensional transport equations with one-sided Lipschitz coefficient

The Cauchy problem for a multidimensional linear transport equation with discontinuous coefficient is investigated. Provided the coefficient satisfies a one-sided Lipschitz condition, existence, uniqueness and weak stability of solutions are obtained for either the conservative backward problem or the advective forward problem by duality. Specific uniqueness criteria are introduced for the backward conservation equation since weak solutions are not unique. A main point is the introduction of a generalized flow in the sense of partial differential equations, which is proved to have unique jacobian determinant, even though it is itself nonunique.
