Finitely presented modules over semihereditary rings

One proves that each almost local-global semihereditary ring has the stacked basis property and is almost Bezout. If M is a finitely presented module, its torsion part tM is a direct sum of cyclic modules where the family of annhilators is an ascending chain of invertible ideals. These ideals are invariants of M. Moreover, M/tM is a direct sum of 2-generated ideals whose product is an invariant of M. The idempotents and the positive integers defined by the rank of M/tM are invariants of M too.

Flat modules over valuation rings

Let $R$ be a valuation ring and let $Q$ be its total quotient ring. It is proved that any singly projective (respectively flat) module is finitely projective if and only if $Q$ is maximal (respectively artinian). It is shown that each singly projective module is a content module if and only if any non-unit of $R$ is a zero-divisor and that each singly projective module is locally projective if and only if $R$ is self injective. Moreover, $R$ is maximal if and only if each singly projective module is separable, if and only if any flat content module is locally projective. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for a valuation ring with non-zero zero-divisors to be strongly coherent or $π$-coherent. A complete characterization of semihereditary commutative rings which are $π$-coherent is given. When $R$ is a commutative ring with a self FP-injective quotient ring $Q$, it is proved that each flat $R$-module is finitely projective if and only if $Q$ is perfect.

Indecomposable modules and Gelfand rings

It is proved that a commutative ring is clean if and only if it is Gelfand with a totally disconnected maximal spectrum. Commutative rings for which each indecomposable module has a local endomorphism ring are studied. These rings are clean and elementary divisor rings.

Pure-injective hulls of modules over valuation rings

If $\hat{R} is the pure-injective hull of a valuation ring $R$, it is proved that $\hat{R}\otimes\_RM$ is the pure-injective of $M$, for each finitely generated module $M$. Moreover, $\hat{R}\otimes\_RM\simeq\oplus\_{1\leq k\leq n}\hat{R}/A\_k\hat{R}$, where $A\_1,...,A\_n$ is the annihilator sequence of $M$. The pure-injective hulls of uniserial or polyserial modules are also investigated. Any two pure-composition series of a countably generated polyserial module are isomorphic.

Localization of injective modules over valuation rings

It is proved that the localization of an injective module E, over a valuation ring R, at a prime ideal J, is injective if J is not the subset of zero-divisors of R or if J or E is flat. It follows that localizations of injective modules over h-local Prüfer domains are injective too.

Injective modules and fp-injective modules over valuation rings

It is shown that each almost maximal valuation ring R such that every indecomposable injective module is countably generated, satisfies the following condition (C): each fp-injective module is locally injective. The converse holds if R is a domain. Moreover, it is proved that a valuation ring that sastisfies this condition (C) is almost maximal.

The lambda-dimension of commutative arithmetic rings

It is shown that every commutative arithmetic ring $R$ has $lambda$-dimension $ leq 3$. An example of a commutative Kaplansky ring with $ lambda$-dimension 3 is given. If $R$ satisfies an additional condition then $ lambda$-dim($R$)
