Normality versus paracompactness in locally compact spaces

This note provides a correct proof of the result claimed by the second author that locally compact normal spaces are collectionwise Hausdorff in certain models obtained by forcing with a coherent Souslin tree. A novel feature of the proof is the use of saturation of the non-stationary ideal on ω_1, as well as of a strong form of Chang's Conjecture. Together with other improvements, this enables the characterization of locally compact hereditarily paracompact spaces as those locally compact, hereditarily normal spaces that do not include a copy of ω_1.

Indestructibility of compact spaces

In this article we investigate which compact spaces remain compact under countably closed forcing. We prove that, assuming the Continuum Hypothesis, the natural generalizations to $ω_1$-sequences of the selection principle and topological game versions of the Rothberger property are not equivalent, even for compact spaces. We also show that Tall and Usuba's "$\aleph_1$-Borel Conjecture" is equiconsistent with the existence of an inaccessible cardinal.

Productively Lindelof and Indestructibly Lindelof Spaces

There has recently been considerable interest in productively Lindelof spaces, i.e. spaces such that their product with every Lindelof space is Lindelof. Here we make several related remarks about such spaces. Indestructible Lindelof spaces, i.e. spaces that remain Lindelof in every countably closed forcing extension, were introduced by Tall in 1995. Their connection with topological games and selection principles was explored by Scheepers and Tall in 2010. We find further connections here.

PFA(S)[S] and Locally Compact Normal Spaces

We examine locally compact normal spaces in models of form PFA(S)[S], in particular characterizing paracompact, countably tight ones as those which include no perfect pre-image of omega_1 and in which all separable closed subspaces are Lindelof.

Productively Lindelof spaces may all be D

We give easy proofs that a) the Continuum Hypothesis implies that if the product of X with every Lindelof space is Lindelof, then X is a D-space, and b) Borel's Conjecture implies every Rothberger space is Hurewicz.

On productively Lindelöf spaces

The class of spaces such that their product with every Lindelöf space is Lindelöf is not well-understood. We prove a number of new results concerning such productively Lindelöf spaces with some extra property, mainly assuming the Continuum Hypothesis.

Lindelof indestructibility, topological games and selection principles

Arhangel'skii proved that if a first countable Hausdorff space is Lindelöf, then its cardinality is at most $2^{\aleph_0}$. Such a clean upper bound for Lindelöf spaces in the larger class of spaces whose points are ${\sf G}_δ$ has been more elusive. In this paper we continue the agenda started in F.D. Tall, On the cardinality of Lindelöf spaces with points $G_δ$, Topology and its Applications 63 (1995), 21 - 38, of considering the cardinality problem for spaces satisfying stronger versions of the Lindelöf property. Infinite games and selection principles, especially the Rothberger property, are essential tools in our investigations
