Commensurability and separability of quasiconvex subgroups

We show that two uniform lattices of a regular right-angled Fuchsian building are commensurable, provided the chamber is a polygon with at least six edges. We show that in an arbitrary Gromov-hyperbolic regular right-angled building associated to a graph product of finite groups, a uniform lattice is commensurable with the graph product provided all of its quasiconvex subgroups are separable. We obtain a similar result for uniform lattices of the Davis complex of Gromov-hyperbolic two-dimensional Coxeter groups. We also prove that every extension of a uniform lattice of a CAT(0) square complex by a finite group is virtually trivial, provided each quasiconvex subgroup of the lattice is separable.

Kazhdan and Haagerup properties from the median viewpoint

We prove the existence of a close connection between spaces with measured walls and median metric spaces. We then relate properties (T) and Haagerup (a-T-menability) to actions on median spaces and on spaces with measured walls. This allows us to explore the relationship between the classical properties (T) and Haagerup and their versions using affine isometric actions on $L^p$-spaces. It also allows us to answer an open problem on a dynamical characterization of property (T), generalizing results of Robertson-Steger.

Simplicite de groupes d'automorphismes d'espaces a courbure negative

We prove that numerous negatively curved simply connected locally compact polyhedral complexes, admitting a discrete cocompact group of automorphisms, have automorphism groups which are locally compact, uncountable, non linear and virtually simple. Examples include hyperbolic buildings, Cayley graphs of word hyperbolic Coxeter systems, and generalizations of cubical complexes, that we call even polyhedral complexes. We use tools introduced by Tits in the case of automorphism groups of trees, and Davis-Moussong's geometric realisation of Coxeter systems.
