Smallest gaps between zeros of stationary Gaussian processes

In this paper, we study the smallest gaps between successive zeros of nondegenerate smooth stationary centered Gaussian processes on the real line with the assumption that the covariance kernel $κ(x)$ and its derivatives decay to 0 as $|x|\to\infty$. We prove that, after rescaling, the smallest gaps converge to a Poisson point process with a specific rate. Moreover, the positions where these smallest gaps occur tend to a uniform distribution. Consequently, we can derive the limiting density for the $k$-th smallest gap.

Concentration of measure on spheres and related manifolds

We study various generalizations of concentration of measure on the unit sphere, in particular by means of log-Sobolev inequalities. First, we show Sudakov-type concentration results and local semicircular laws for weighted random matrices. A further branch addresses higher order concentration (i.\,e., concentration for non-Lipschitz functions which have bounded derivatives of higher order) for $\ell_p^n$-spheres. This is based on a type of generalized log-Sobolev inqualities referred to as $\mathrm{LS}_q$-inequalities. More generally, we prove higher order concentration bounds for probability measures on $\mathbb{R}^n$ which satisfy an $\mathrm{LS}_q$-inequality. Finally, we derive concentration bounds for sequences of smooth symmetric functions on the Euclidean sphere which are closely related to Edgeworth-type expansions.

Esscher Transform and the Central Limit Theorem

The paper is devoted to the investigation of Esscher's transform on high dimensional Euclidean spaces in the light of its application to the central limit theorem. With this tool, we explore necessary and sufficient conditions of normal approximation for normalized sums of i.i.d. random vectors in terms of the Rényi divergence of infinite order, extending recent one dimensional results.

Central Limit Theorem for Rényi Divergence of Infinite Order

For normalized sums $Z_n$ of i.i.d. random variables, we explore necessary and sufficient conditions which guarantee the normal approximation with respect to the Rényi divergence of infinite order. In terms of densities $p_n$ of $Z_n$, this is a strengthened variant of the local limit theorem taking the form $\sup_x (p_n(x) - φ(x))/φ(x) \rightarrow 0$ as $n \rightarrow \infty$.

Richter's local limit theorem,its refinement,and related results

We give a detailed exposition of the proof of Richter's local limit theorem in a refined form, and establish the stability of the remainder term in this theorem under small perturbations of the underlying distribution (including smoothing). We also discuss related quantitative bounds for characteristic functions and Laplace transforms.

Improved applications of Arak's inequalities to the Littlewood-Offord problem

Let $X_1,\ldots,X_n$ be independent identically distributed random variables. In this paper we study the behavior of concentration functions of weighted sums $\sum_{k=1}^{n}X_ka_k $ with respect to the arithmetic structure of coefficients~$a_k$ in the context of the Littlewood--Offord problem. In our recent papers, we discussed the relations between the inverse principles stated by Nguyen, Tao and Vu and similar principles formulated by Arak in his papers from the 1980's. In this paper, we will derive some improved (more general and more precise) consequences of Arak's inequalities applying our new bound in the Littlewood--Offord problem. Moreover, we also obtain an improvement of the estimates used in Rudelson and Vershynin's least common denominator method.

Determinantal point processes on spheres: multivariate linear statistics

In this paper, we will derive the first and 2nd order Wiener chaos decomposition for the multivariate linear statistics of the determinantal point processes associated with the spectral projection kernels on the unit spheres $S^d$. We will first get a graphical representation for the cumulants of multivariate linear statistics for any determinantal point process. The main results then follow from the very precise estimates and identities regarding the spectral projection kernels and the symmetry of the spheres.

Higher order concentration on Stiefel and Grassmann manifolds

We prove higher order concentration bounds for functions on Stiefel and Grassmann manifolds equipped with the uniform distribution. This partially extends previous work for functions on the unit sphere. Technically, our results are based on logarithmic Sobolev techniques for the uniform measures on the manifolds. Applications include Hanson--Wright type inequalities for Stiefel manifolds and concentration bounds for certain distance functions between subspaces of $\mathbb{R}^n$.

Arak Inequalities for Concentration Functions and the Littlewood-Offord Problem

Let $X,X_1,\ldots,X_n$ be independent identically distributed random variables. In this paper we study the behavior of concentration functions of weighted sums $\sum_{k=1}^{n}a_k X_k$ with respect to the arithmetic structure of coefficients $a_k$ in the context of the Littlewood--Offord problem. Concentration results of this type received renewed interest in connection with distributions of singular values of random matrices. Recently, Tao and Vu proposed an Inverse Principle in the Littlewood-Offord problem. We discuss the relations between the Inverse Principle of Tao and Vu as well as that of Nguyen and Vu and a similar principle formulated for sums of arbitrary independent random variables in the work of Arak from the 1980's.

Convergence to infinite-dimensional compound Poisson distributions on convex polyhedra

The aim of the present work is to provide a supplement to the authors' paper (2018). It is shown that our results on the approximation of distributions of sums of independent summands by the accompanying compound Poisson laws and the estimates of the proximity of sequential convolutions of multidimensional distributions on convex polyhedra may be almost automatically transferred to the infinite-dimensional case.

Distribution of Values of Quadratic Forms at Integral Points

The number of lattice points in $d$-dimensional hyperbolic or elliptic shells $\{m : a<Q[m]<b\}$, which are restricted to rescaled and growing domains $r\;Ω$, is approximated by the volume. An effective error bound of order $o(r^{d-2})$ for this approximation is proved based on Diophantine approximation properties of the quadratic form $Q$. These results allow to show effective variants of previous non-effective results in the quantitative Oppenheim problem and extend known effective results in dimension $d \geq 9$ to dimension $d \geq 5$. They apply to wide shells when $b-a$ is growing with $r$ and to positive definite forms $Q$. For indefinite forms they provide explicit bounds (depending on the signature or Diophantine properties of $Q$) for the size of non-zero integral points $m$ in dimension $d\geq 5$ solving the Diophantine inequality $|Q[m]| < \varepsilon$ and provide error bounds comparable with those for positive forms up to powers of $\log r$.
