A dirty integration of Leibniz algebras

In this article, we present an integration of any real finite-dimensional Leibniz algebra as a Lie rack which reduces in the particular case of a Lie algebra to the ordinary connected simply connected Lie group. The construction is not functorial.

Lie rackoids

We define a new differential geometric structure, called Lie rackoid. It relates to Leibniz algebroids exactly as Lie groupoids relate to Lie algebroids. Its main ingredient is a selfdistributive product on the manifold of bisections of a smooth precategory. We show that the tangent algebroid of a Lie rackoid is a Leibniz algebroid and that Lie groupoids gives rise via conjugation to a Lie rackoid. Our main objective are large classes of examples, including a Lie rackoid integrating the Dorfman bracket without the cocycle term of the standard Courant algebroid.

Representations of crossed modules and other generalized Yetter-Drinfel'd modules

The Yang-Baxter equation plays a fundamental role in various areas of mathematics. Its solutions, called braidings, are built, among others, from Yetter-Drinfel'd modules over a Hopf algebra, from self-distributive structures, and from crossed modules of groups. In the present paper these three sources of solutions are unified inside the framework of Yetter-Drinfe' d modules over a braided system. A systematic construction of braiding structures on such modules is provided. Some general categorical methods of obtaining such generalized Yetter-Drinfel'd (=GYD) modules are described. Among the braidings recovered using these constructions are the Woronowicz and the Hennings braidings on a Hopf algebra. We also introduce the notions of crossed modules of shelves / Leibniz algebras, and interpret them as GYD modules. This yields new sources of braidings. We discuss whether these braidings stem from a braided monoidal category, and discover several non-strict pre-tensor categories with interesting associators.

Holomorphic current groups -- Structure and Orbits

Let K be a finite-dimensional, 1-connected complex Lie group, and let Σ_k=Σ- {p_1,\ldots,p_k\} be a compact connected Riemann surface Σ, from which we have extracted k > 0 distinct points. We study in this article the regular Frechet-Lie group O(Σ_k,K) of holomorphic maps from Σ_k to K and its central extension \widehat{O(Σ_k,K)}. We feature especially the automorphism groups of these Lie groups as well as the coadjoint orbits of \widehat{O(Σ_k,K)} which we link to flat K-bundles on Σ_k.

On the string Lie algebra

We construct an abelian representative for the crossed module associated to the string Lie algebra. We show how to apply this construction in order to define quasi-invariant tensors which serve to categorify the infinitesimal braiding on the category of g-modules given by an r-matrix, following Cirio-Martins.

Deformation quantization of Leibniz algebras

This paper has two parts. The first part is a review and extension of the methods of integration of Leibniz algebras into Lie racks, including as new feature a new way of integrating 2-cocycles (see Lemma 3.9). In the second part, we use the local integration of a Leibniz algebra h using a Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff type formula in order to deformation quantize its linear dual h^*. More precisely, we define a natural rack product on the set of exponential functions which extends to a rack action on C^{\infty}(h^*).

Crossed modules of racks

We generalize the notion of a crossed module of groups to that of a crossed module of racks. We investigate the relation to categorified racks, namely strict 2-racks, and trunk-like objects in the category of racks, generalizing the relation between crossed modules of groups and strict 2-groups. Then we explore topological applications. We show that by applying the rack-space functor, a crossed module of racks gives rise to a covering. Our main result shows how the fundamental racks associated to links upstairs and downstairs in a covering fit together to form a crossed module of racks.

Racks, Leibniz algebras and Yetter-Drinfel'd modules

A Hopf algebra object in Loday and Pirashvili's category of linear maps entails an ordinary Hopf algebra and a Yetter-Drinfel'd module. We equip the latter with a structure of a braided Leibniz algebra. This provides a unified framework for examples of racks in the category of coalgebras discussed recently by Carter, Crans, Elhamdadi and Saito.

A Cocycle Model for Topological and Lie Group Cohomology

We propose a unified framework in which the different constructions of cohomology groups for topological and Lie groups can all be treated on equal footings. In particular, we show that the cohomology of "locally continuous" cochains (respectively "locally smooth" in the case of Lie groups) fits into this framework, which provides an easily accessible cocycle model for topological and Lie group cohomology. We illustrate the use of this unified framework and the relation between the different models in various applications. This includes the construction of cohomology classes characterizing the string group and a direct connection to Lie algebra cohomology.

Making Lifting Obstructions Explicit

If P \to X is a topological principal K-bundle and \hat K a central extension of K by Z, then there is a natural obstruction class δ_1(P) in \check H^2(X,\uline Z) in sheaf cohomology whose vanishing is equivalent to the existence of a \hat K-bundle \hat P over X with P \cong \hat P/Z. In this paper we establish a link between homotopy theoretic data and the obstruction class δ_1(P) which in many cases can be used to calculate this class in explicit terms. Writing \partial_d^P \: π_d(X) \to π_{d-1}(K) for the connecting maps in the long exact homotopy sequence, two of our main results can be formulated as follows. If Z is a quotient of a contractible group by the discrete group Γ, then the homomorphism π_3(X) \to Γinduced by δ_1(P) \in \check H^2(X,\uline Z) \cong H^3_{\rm sing}(X,Γ) coincides with \partial_2^{\hat K} \circ \partial_3^P and if Z is discrete, then δ_1(P) \in \check H^2(X,\uline Z) induces the homomorphism -\partial_1^{\hat K} \circ \partial_2^P \: π_2(X) \to Z. We also obtain some information on obstruction classes defining trivial homomorphisms on homotopy groups.

On 2-Holonomy

We construct a cycle in higher Hochschild homology associated to the 2-dimensional torus which represents 2-holonomy of a non-abelian gerbe in the same way the ordinary holonomy of a principal G-bundle gives rise to a cycle in ordinary Hochschild homology. This is done using the connection 1-form of Baez-Schreiber. A crucial ingredient in our work is the possibility to arrange that in the structure crossed module mu: g -> h of the principal 2-bundle, the Lie algebra h is abelian, up to equivalence of crossed modules.

On Hopf 2-algebras

Our main goal in this paper is to translate the diagram relating groups, Lie algebras and Hopf algebras to the corresponding 2-objects, i.e. to categorify it. This is done interpreting 2-objects as crossed modules and showing the compatibility of the standard functors linking groups, Lie algebras and Hopf algebras with the concept of a crossed module. One outcome is the construction of an enveloping algebra of the string Lie algebra of Baez-Crans, another is the clarification of the passage from crossed modules of Hopf algebras to Hopf 2-algebras.

Deformations of the Lie algebra o(5) in characteristics 3 and 2

The finite dimensional simple modular Lie algebras with Cartan matrix cannot be deformed if the characteristic p of the ground field is equal to 0 or greater than 3. If p=3, the orthogonal Lie algebra o(5)is one of the two simple modular Lie algebras with Cartan matrix that have deformations (the Brown algebras br(2; a) are among these 10-dimensional deforms and hence are not counted separately); the 29-dimensional Brown algebra br(3) is the only other simple Lie algebra with Cartan matrix that has deformations. Kostrikin and Kuznetsov described the orbits (isomorphism classes) under the action of the group O(5) of automorphisms of o(5) on the space H^2(o(5);o(5)) and produced representatives of the isomorphism classes. Here we explicitly describe global deforms of o(5) and of the simple analog of this orthogonal Lie algebra in characteristic 2.

Associative algebra deformations of the Connes-Moscovici's Hopf algebra $\mathcal{H}_1$

We compute the second Hochschild cohomology space $HH^2(\mathcal{H}_1)$ of Connes-Moscovici's Hopf algebra $\mathcal{H}_1$, giving the infinitesimal deformations (up to equivalence) of the associative structure. $HH^2(\mathcal{H}_1)$ is shown to be one dimensional, and thus Connes-Moscovici's formal deformation of $\mathcal{H}_1$ using Rankin-Cohen brackets is unique up to equivalence.

Cohomology and deformations of the infinite dimensional filiform Lie algebra m_2

Denote $\fm_2$ the infinite dimensional $\N$-graded Lie algebra defined by the basis $e_i$ for $i\geq 1$ and by relations $[e_1,e_i]=e_{i+1}$ for all $i\geq 2$, $[e_2,e_j]=e_{j+2}$ for all $j\geq 3$. We compute in this article the bracket structure on $H^1(\fm_2,\fm_2)$, $H^2(\fm_2,\fm_2)$ and in relation to this, we establish that there are only finitely many true deformations of $\fm_2$ in each weight by constructing them explicitely. It turns out that in weight 0 one gets as non-trivial deformation only one formal non-converging deformation.

The second cohomology of current algebras of general Lie algebras

Let $A$ be a unital commutative associative algebra over a field of characteristic zero, $\k$ be a Lie algebra, and $\z$ a vector space, considered as a trivial module of the Lie algebra $\g := A \otimes \k$. In this paper we give a description of the cohomology space $H^2(\g,\z)$ in terms of well accessible data associated to $A$ and $\k$. We also discuss the topological situation, where $A$ and $\k$ are locally convex algebras.

Cohomology and deformations of the infinite dimensional filiform Lie algebra m_0

Denote m_0 the infinite dimensional N-graded Lie algebra defined by basis e_i, i>= 1 and relations [e_1,e_i] = e_(i+1) for all i>=2. We compute in this article the bracket structure on H1(m_0,m_0), H2(m_0,m_0) and in relation to this, we establish that there are only finitely many true deformations of m_0 in each nonpositive weight, by constructing them explicitely. It turns out that in weight 0 one gets exactly the other two filiform Lie algebras.

Deformations of Lie algebras of vector fields arising from families of schemes

Fialowski and Schlichenmaier constructed examples of global deformations of Lie algebras of vector fields from deforming the underlying variety. We formulate their approach in a conceptual way. Namely, we construct a stack of deformations and a morphism form the moduli stack of stable marked curves. The morphism associates to a family of marked curves the family of Lie algebras obtained by taking the Lie algebra of vertical vector fields on the family where one has extracted the marked points. We show that this morphism is almost a monomorphism by Pursell-Shanks theory.
