From driven oscillations to free ringdown: a particle plunging into Kerr

We show that a ringdown waveform can admit a constant-coefficient quasinormal-mode (QNM) representation while its individual QNM-pole contributions remain driven. To establish this result, we construct a first-principles rational approximation to the Kerr Green's function from its QNM poles, physical residues, and horizon-frequency zeros. For particles plunging from the innermost stable circular orbit into Kerr black holes with spins 0.5-0.9, each QNM-pole contribution initially follows the source's instantaneous complex frequency and decouples only after the source decays faster than the corresponding mode. At late times, the source approaches a sum of damped oscillations at the third and higher horizon frequencies. The corresponding zeros in the Green's function cancel these source-frequency components in the coherent waveform, while the continuing drive generates oscillations at QNM frequencies. Thus, an apparently free QNM superposition can emerge before its individual contributions dynamically decouple from the source.

LPM: Industrial-Scale Generative Video Restoration

We present the Large Processing Model (LPM), a diffusion-based generative framework for photorealistic video restoration under complex, in-the-wild degradations. To our knowledge, LPM is the first generative video restoration model deployed at industrial scale. LPM addresses the diverse degradations in user-generated content (UGC) through a unified system encompassing large-scale data engineering, foundation-model training, and efficient inference. Its enhanced architecture, progressive training strategy, and temporal-pyramid inference mechanism jointly enable high-fidelity, temporally consistent restoration of arbitrarily long videos across the broad content distribution encountered on UGC platforms. LPM has been deployed in production at Kuaishou, where videos processed by the model account for approximately 45% of total viewing time, delivering consistent improvements across key quality-of-experience metrics. Beyond perceptual enhancement, LPM delivers substantial system-level benefits: at comparable perceptual quality, it reduces bitrate by 20% relative to Kuaishou's in-house codec, yielding annual bandwidth cost savings on the order of hundreds of millions. Its low serving cost also enables integration into products such as Kling, demonstrating that generative restoration can be practical, scalable, and cost-effective for large-scale video processing.

Constructions and Characterizations of $s$-Plateaued Partitions

Bent partitions play a significant role in constructing bent functions and have rich connections with coding theory and combinatorics. In this paper, we introduce $s$-plateaued partitions, which generalize the bent partitions. Let $\Gamma=\{A_{i}, 1 \leq i \leq K\}$ be a partition of $V_{n}^{(p)}$, where $V_{n}^{(p)}$ is an $n$-dimensional vector space over the prime field $\mathbb{F}_{p}$ and $p \mid K$. Then $\Gamma$ is called an $s$-plateaued partition of $V_{n}^{(p)}$ of depth $K$ if each $p$-ary function $f: V_{n}^{(p)} \rightarrow \mathbb{F}_{p}$ for which every $j \in \mathbb{F}_{p}$ has exactly $\frac{K}{p}$ of sets $A_{i}$ in $\Gamma$ in its preimage set, is a $p$-ary $s$-plateaued function. By using an $s$-plateaued partition, a large number of $p$-ary $s$-plateaued functions, vectorial $s$-plateaued functions and generalized $s$-plateaued functions can be constructed. In particular, $0$-plateaued partitions are just bent partitions. In general, $s$-plateaued partitions are much more complicated than bent partitions. We analyze the possible cardinality of $A_{i}$ of an $s$-plateaued partition. We give some explicit constructions of $s$-plateaued partitions for which any generated $p$-ary $s$-plateaued function has no nonzero linear structure. We give a characterization of an $s$-plateaued partition $\Gamma=\{A_{i}, 1 \leq i \leq K\}$, where $p$ is odd, $K \geq 5$ and $-A_{i}=A_{i}, 1 \leq i \leq K$. Based on which, we show that if $p \geq 5$, then the preimage set partition of a $p$-ary $s$-plateaued function $f: V_{n}^{(p)} \rightarrow \mathbb{F}_{p}$ with $f(x)=f(-x)$ is an $s$-plateaued partition if and only if $f$ is of $(p-1)$-form, where $n+s$ is even. When $s=0$, we partially address an open problem on whether a bent partition $\Gamma$ of $V_{n}^{(p)}$ of depth $p^{\frac{n}{2}}$ must be obtained from spreads.

Early-time millimeter observations of the nearby Type II SN 2024ggi

The short-lived ionized emission lines in early spectroscopy of the nearby type II supernova SN 2024ggi signify the presence of dense circumstellar matter (CSM) close to its progenitor star. We proposed the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observations by its Director's Discretionary Time program to catch the potential synchrotron radiation associated with the ejecta-CSM interaction. Multi-epoch observations were conducted using ALMA band 6 at +8, +13, and +17 days after the discovery. The data show non-detections at the position of SN 2024ggi with a 3sigma upper limit of less than 0.15 mJy, corresponding to a luminosity of approximately 8*10^24 erg/s/Hz. In this paper, we leverage the non-detections to place constraints on the properties of CSM surrounding SN 2024ggi. We investigate both the Wind and Eruptive models for the radial distribution of CSM, assuming a constant mass-loss rate in the Wind model and a distance-variant mass-loss rate in the Eruptive model. The derived CSM distribution for the Wind model does not align with the early-time spectral features, while the ALMA observations suggest a mass-loss rate of ~ 5*10^-3 Msun/year for the Eruptive model. Conducting multi-epoch millimeter/submillimeter observations shortly after the explosion, with a cadence of a few days, could offer a promising opportunity to capture the observable signature of the Eruptive model.

The Interaction Between Stars and Past AGN Disk: Possible Explanation for the Kinematic Distributions of S-stars in the Galactic Center

The presence of young stars, aged around several million years and situated within the range of $\sim 0.04-1$ pc from our Galactic center raises a question about their origins and dynamical evolutions. Their kinematics provide an opportunity to explore their formation or possible subsequent dynamical evolution. If Sagittarius A* was active in the past as suggested by several observations, the accretion disk may have a significant impact on the dynamics of stars in the Galactic center. The drag force exerted on stars during star-disk interaction could lead some of them to sink into the accretion disk, and these embedded stars will rapidly migrate inward and eventually be disrupted within $\sim10^5$ yr. This could roughly explain the absence of stars within $2.5 \times 10^4 R_{\rm g}$ ($\sim$ 1000 au). Additionally, Kozai-Lidov oscillations, induced by the gravitational perturbation of the disk, could contribute to the bimodal distribution of S-star inclinations and drive a majority of stars into high eccentricity orbits.
