The Einstein-Weyl spaces associated to Segre quartic surfaces

We find explicit examples of compact minitwistor spaces of genus one, whose Einstein-Weyl spaces have a connected component that is diffeomorphic to the de Sitter space. The induced Einstein-Weyl structure on it is Lorenzian, real-analytic, whose spacelike geodesics are all closed and simple. The identity component of the automorphism group of the Einstein-Weyl structure is the circle and therefore the structure is not isomorphic to the standard de Sitter structure. We show that these Einstein-Weyl structures deform as the Segre surfaces deform and converge to the standard de Sitter structure. The minitwistor spaces we study are the so-called Segre quartic surfaces. They have a real pair of nodes, which play a crucial role in proving the above results. These singularities also allow us to construct explicit examples of non-compact complex surfaces that do not admit any compactification.

An integral transform on a cylinder and the twistor correspondence

Twistor correspondences for R-invariant indefinite self-dual conformal structures on R^4 are established explicitly. These correspondences are written down by using a natural integral transform from functions on a two dimensional cylinder to functions on the flat Lorentz space R^{1,2} which is related to the wave equation and the Radon transform. A general method on the twistor construction of indefinite self-dual 4-spaces and indefinite Einstein-Weyl 3-spaces are also summarized.

Wave equations and the LeBrun-Mason correspondence

The LeBrun-Mason twistor correspondences for $S^1$-invariant self-dual Zollfrei metrics are explicitly established. We give explicit formulas for the general solutions of the wave equation and the monopole equation on the de Sitter three-space under the assumption for the tameness at infinity by using Radon-type integral transforms, and the above twistor correspondence is described by using these formulas. We also obtain a critical condition for the LeBrun-Mason twistor spaces, and show that the twistor theory does not work well for twistor spaces which do not satisfy this condition.

Minitwistor spaces, Severi varieties, and Einstein-Weyl structure

In this paper we show that the space of nodal rational curves, which is so called a Severi variety (of rational curves), on any non-singular projective surface is always equipped with a natural Einstein-Weyl structure, if the space is 3-dimensional. This is a generalization of the Einstein-Weyl structure on the space of smooth rational curves on a complex surface, given by N.Hitchin. As geometric objects naturally associated to Einstein-Weyl structure, we investigate null surfaces and geodesics on the Severi varieties. Also we see that if the projective surface has an appropriate real structure, then the real locus of the Severi variety becomes a positive definite Einstein-Weyl manifold. Moreover we construct various explicit examples of rational surfaces having 3-dimensional Severi varieties of rational curves.

A construction of Einstein-Weyl spaces via LeBrun-Mason type twistor correspondence

We construct infinitely many Einstein-Weyl structures on $S^2 \times R$ of signature (-++) which is sufficiently close to the model case of constant curvature, and whose space-like geodesics are all closed. Such structures are obtained from small perturbations of the diagonal of $CP^1 \times CP^1$ using the method of LeBrun-Mason type twistor theory. The geometry of constructed Einstein-Weyl space is well understood from the configuration of holomorphic disks. We also review Einstein-Weyl structures and their properties in the former half of this article.

Self-dual Zollfrei conformal structures with alpha-surface foliation

A global twistor correspondence is established for neutral self-dual conformal structures with alpha-surface foliation when the structure is close to the standard structure on S^2 times S^2. We need to introduce some singularity for the alpha-surface foliation such that the leaves intersect on a fixed two sphere. In this correspondence, we prove that a natural double fibration is induced on some quotient spaces which is equal to the standard double fibration for the standard Zoll projective structure. We also give a local general forms of neutral self-dual metrics with alpha-surface foliation.

Singular Self-dual Zollfrei Metrics and Twistor Correspondence

We construct examples of singular self-dual Zollfrei metrics explicitly, by patching a pair of Petean's self-dual split-signature metrics. We prove that there is a natural one-to-one correspondence between these singular metrics and a certain set of embeddings of $RP^3$ to $CP^3$ which has one singular point. This embedding corresponds to an odd function on $R$ that is rapidly decreasing and pure imaginary valued. The one-to-one correspondence is explicitly given by using the Radon transform.
