Paradigm Shift in Infrastructure Inspection Technology: Leveraging High-performance Imaging and Advanced AI Analytics to Inspect Road Infrastructure

Effective road infrastructure management is crucial for modern society. Traditional manual inspection techniques remain constrained by cost, efficiency, and scalability, while camera and laser imaging methods fail to capture subsurface defects critical for long-term structural integrity. This paper introduces ROVAI, an end-to-end framework that integrates high-resolution X-ray computed tomography imaging and advanced AI-driven analytics, aiming to transform road infrastructure inspection technologies. By leveraging the computational power of world-leading supercomputers, Fugaku and Frontier, and SoTA synchrotron facility (Spring-8), ROVAI enables scalable and high-throughput processing of massive 3D tomographic datasets. Our approach overcomes key challenges, such as the high memory requirements of vision models, the lack of labeled training data, and storage I/O bottlenecks. This seamless integration of imaging and AI analytics facilitates automated defect detection, material composition analysis, and lifespan prediction. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of ROVAI in real-world scenarios, setting a new standard for intelligent, data-driven infrastructure management.

Extremely scalable algorithm for 10$^8$-atom quantum material simulation on the full system of the K computer

An extremely scalable linear-algebraic algorithm was developed for quantum material simulation (electronic state calculation) with 10$^8$ atoms or 100-nm-scale materials. The mathematical foundation is generalized shifted linear equations ((zB - A) x = b), instead of conventional generalized eigenvalue equations. The method has a highly parallelizable mathematical structure. The fundamental theory is mathematical and is applicable also to other scientific fields. The benchmark shows an extreme strong scaling and a qualified time-to-solution on the full system of the K computer. The method was demonstrated in a real material research for ultra-flexible (organic) devices, key devices of next-generation IoT products. The present paper shows that an innovative scalable algorithm for a real research can appear by the co-design among application, algorithm and architecture.

Nf=1 QCD simulation with improved gauge action at finite temperature

We study the deconfinement transition of $N_f=1$ QCD by the hybrid Monte Carlo algorithm with Wilson fermions. We calculate the Polyakov loop, its susceptibility and Binder cumulant and use the $χ^2$ method to locate the phase transition point. Our results are similar to the previous results obtained by the multiboson algorithm.

Three topics of monopole dynamics in abelian projected QCD

Three topics about monopole dynamics after abelian projection are reported. The first is the new and detailed analyses of $SU(2)$ monopole action obtained after the block-spin transformation on the dual lattice. The $b=na(β)$ dependence for all couplings are well fitted with a universal curve. The distance dependence of the couplings is well reproduced by a massive propagator with the mass $m=0.8$ in unit of $b$. The second is the $SU(3)$ monopole action recently obtained. The third is new interesting gauges showing abelian and monopole dominances as in the maximally abelian gauge.

Monopoles and hadron spectrum in quenched QCD

We report the preliminary results of the studies of hadron spectrum under the background of abelian and monopole gauge fields in quenched Wilson SU(3) QCD. Abelian gauge fields alone reproduce the same chiral limit as in the full case. Critical hopping parameter $κ_c$ and $m_ρ$ are the same in both cases. We need more time to get a definite result in the case of monopole background. The photon contribution do not produce any mass gap in the chiral limit ($κ=κ_c\sim 0.17$). The behavior is similar to those in the free photon case for $κ_c= 0.125$.
