Statistical criteria for possible indications of new physics in tritium $β$-decay spectrum

The method of quasi-optimal weights is applied to constructing (quasi-)optimal criteria for various anomalous contributions in experimental spectra. Anomalies in the spectra could indicate physics beyond the Standard Model (additional interactions and neutrino flavours, Lorenz violation etc.). In particular the cumulative tritium $β$-decay spectrum (for instance, in Troitsk-$ν$-mass, Mainz Neutrino Mass and KATRIN experiments) is analysed using the derived special criteria. Using the power functions we show that the derived quasi-optimal criteria are efficient statistical instruments for detecting the anomalous contributions in the spectra.

A contribution to the history of quarks: Boris Struminsky's 1965 JINR publication

The idea that an internal quantum number for quarks, eventually called color, can explain the magnetic moments of baryons within the framework of standard quantum theory, was explicitly stated in a 7th January, 1965 JINR publication by Boris Struminsky (JINR P-1939). A complete translation into English of Struminsky's letter is presented along with page images of the original booklet found in the JINR Library.

Heavy-to-light decays with a two-loop accuracy

We present a determination of a new class of three-loop Feynman diagrams describing heavy-to-light transitions. We apply it to find the O(alpha_s^2) corrections to the top quark decay t -> bW and to the distribution of lepton invariant mass in the semileptonic b quark decay b -> ulν. We also confirm the previously determined total rate of that process as well as the O(alpha^2) corrections to the muon lifetime.
