Diffusive Majority Vote Model

We define a stochastic reaction-diffusion process that describes a consensus formation in a non-sedentary population. The process is a diffusive version of the Majority Vote model, where the state update follows two stages: in the first stage, spins are allowed to hop to neighbor nodes with different probabilities for the respective spin orientation, and in the second stage, the spins in the same node can change its values according to the majority vote update rule. The model presents a consensus formation phase when concentration is greater than a threshold value, and a paramagnetic phase on the converse for equal diffusion probabilities, i.e., maintaining the inversion symmetry. The threshold vanishes for unequal diffusion probabilities, which means that the system has a consensus state for all values of population densities. The stationary collective opinion is dominated by the individuals that diffuse more.

Comparison of $pp$ and $p \bar{p}$ differential elastic cross sections and observation of the exchange of a colorless $C$-odd gluonic compound

We describe an analysis comparing the $p\bar{p}$ elastic cross section as measured by the D0 Collaboration at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV to that in $pp$ collisions as measured by the TOTEM Collaboration at 2.76, 7, 8, and 13 TeV using a model-independent approach. The TOTEM cross sections extrapolated to a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} =$ 1.96 TeV are compared with the D0 measurement in the region of the diffractive minimum and the second maximum of the $pp$ cross section. The two data sets disagree at the 3.4$σ$ level and thus provide evidence for the $t$-channel exchange of a colorless, $C$-odd gluonic compound, also known as the odderon. We combine these results with a TOTEM analysis of the same $C$-odd exchange based on the total cross section and the ratio of the real to imaginary parts of the forward elastic scattering amplitude in $pp$ scattering. The combined significance of these results is larger than 5$σ$ and is interpreted as the first observation of the exchange of a colorless, $C$-odd gluonic compound.

CMS RPC Background -- Studies and Measurements

The expected radiation background in the CMS RPC system has been studied using the MC prediction with the CMS FLUKA simulation of the detector and the cavern. The MC geometry used in the analysis describes very accurately the present RPC system but still does not include the complete description of the RPC upgrade region with pseudorapidity $1.9 < \lvert η\rvert < 2.4$. Present results will be updated with the final geometry description, once it is available. The radiation background has been studied in terms of expected particle rates, absorbed dose and fluence. Two High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) scenarios have been investigated - after collecting $3000$ and $4000$ fb$^{-1}$. Estimations with safety factor of 3 have been considered, as well.

Scaling corrections of Majority Vote model on Barabasi-Albert networks

We consider two consensus formation models coupled to Barabasi-Albert networks, namely the Majority Vote model and Biswas-Chatterjee-Sen model. Recent works point to a non-universal behavior of the Majority Vote model, where the critical exponents have a dependence on the connectivity while the effective dimension $D_\mathrm{eff} = 2β/ν+ γ/ν$ of the lattice is unity. We considered a generalization of the scaling relations in order to include logarithmic corrections. We obtained the leading critical exponent ratios $1/ν$, $β/ν$, and $γ/ν$ by finite size scaling data collapses, as well as the logarithmic correction pseudo-exponents $\widehatλ$, $\widehatβ+β\widehatλ$, and $\widehatγ-γ\widehatλ$. By comparing the scaling behaviors of the Majority Vote and Biswas-Chatterjee-Sen models, we argue that the exponents of Majority Vote model, in fact, are universal. Therefore, they do not depend on network connectivity. In addition, the critical exponents and the universality class are the same of Biswas-Chatterjee-Sen model, as seen for periodic and random graphs. However, the Majority Vote model has logarithmic corrections on its scaling properties, while Biswas-Chatterjee-Sen model follows usual scaling relations without logarithmic corrections.

BCS model on Quasiperiodic Lattices

We study the Biswas-Chatterjee-Sen (BCS) model, also known as the KCOD (Kinetic Continuous Opinion Dynamics) model on quasiperiodic lattices by using Kinetic Monte Carlo simulations and Finite Size Scaling technique. Our results are consistent with a continuous phase transition, controlled by an external noise. We obtained the order parameter $M$, defined as the averaged opinion, the fourth-order Binder cumulant $U$, and susceptibility $χ$ as functions of the noise parameter. We estimated the critical noises for Penrose, and Ammann-Beenker lattices. We also considered 7-fold and 9-fold quasiperiodic lattices and estimated the respective critical noises as well. Irrespective of rotational and translational long-range order of the lattice, the system falls in the same universality class of the two-dimensional Ising model. Quasiperiodic order is irrelevant and it does not change any critical exponents for BCS model.

Epidemic Outbreaks on Random Delaunay Triangulations

We study epidemic outbreaks on random Delaunay triangulations by applying Asynchronous SIR (susceptible-infected-removed) model kinetic Monte Carlo dynamics coupled to lattices extracted from the triangulations. In order to investigate the critical behavior of the model, we obtain the cluster size distribution by using Newman-Ziff algorithm, allowing to simulate random inhomogeneous lattices and measure any desired percolation observable. We numerically calculate the order parameter, defined as the wrapping cluster density, the mean cluster size, and Binder cumulant ratio defined for percolation in order to estimate the epidemic threshold. Our findings suggest that the system falls into two-dimensional dynamic percolation universality class and the quenched random disorder is irrelevant, in agreement with results for classical percolation.

Asynchronous SIR model on Two-Dimensional Quasiperiodic Lattices

We considered the Asynchronous SIR (susceptible-infected-removed) model on Penrose and Ammann-Beenker quasiperiodic lattices, and obtained its critical behavior by using Newman-Ziff algorithm to track cluster propagation by making a tree structure of clusters grown at the dynamics, allowing to simulate SIR model on non-periodic lattices and measure any observable related to percolation. We numerically calculated the order parameter, defined in a geographical fashion by distinguish between an epidemic state, characterized by a spanning cluster formed by the removed nodes and the endemic state, where there is no spanning cluster. We obtained the averaged mean cluster size which plays the role of a susceptibility, and a cumulant ratio defined for percolation to estimate the epidemic threshold. Our numerical results suggest that the system falls into two-dimensional dynamic percolation universality class and the quasiperiodic order is irrelevant, in according to results for classical percolation.

Logarithm corrections in the critical behavior of the Ising model on a triangular lattice modulated with the Fibonacci sequence

We investigated the critical behavior of the Ising model in a triangular lattice with ferro and anti-ferromagnetic interactions modulated by the Fibonacci sequence, by using finite-size numerical simulations. Specifically, we used a replica exchange Monte Carlo method, known as Parallel Tempering, to calculate the thermodynamic quantities of the system. We have obtained the staggered magnetization $q$, the associated magnetic susceptibility ($χ$) and the specific heat $c$, to characterize the universality class of the system. At the low-temperature limit, we have obtained a continuous phase transition with a critical temperature around $T_{c} \approx 1.4116$ for a particular modulation of the lattice according to the Fibonacci letter sequence. In addition, we have used finite-size scaling relations with logarithmic corrections to estimate the critical exponents $β$, $γ$ and $ν$, and the correction exponents $\hatβ$, $\hatγ$, $\hatα$ and $\hatλ$. Our results show that the system obeys the Ising model universality class and that the critical behavior has logarithmic corrections.

Critical behavior of the 2D Ising model modulated by the Octonacci sequence

We investigated the Ising model on a square lattice with ferro and antiferromagnetic interactions modulated by the quasiperiodic Octonacci sequence in both directions of the lattice. We have applied the Replica Exchange Monte Carlo (Parallel Tempering) technique to calculate the thermodynamic quantities of the system. We obtained the order parameter, the associated magnetic susceptibility ($χ$) and the specific heat $(c)$ in order to characterize the universality class of the phase transition. Also, we use the finite size scaling method to obtain the critical temperature of the system and the critical exponents $β$, $γ$ and $ν$. In the low temperature limit we have obtained a continuous transition with critical temperature around $T_{c} \approx 1.413$. The system obeys the Ising universality class with logarithmic corrections. We found estimatives for the correction exponents $\hatβ$, $\hatγ$ and $\hatλ$ by using the finite size scaling technique.

Measurement of the W boson helicity in top quark decays using 5.4 fb^-1 of ppbar collision data

We present a measurement of the helicity of the W boson produced in top quark decays using ttbar decays in the l+jets and dilepton final states selected from a sample of 5.4 fb^-1 of collisions recorded using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider. We measure the fractions of longitudinal and right-handed W bosons to be f_0 = 0.669 +- 0.102 [ +- 0.078 (stat.) +- 0.065 (syst.)] and f_+ = 0.023 +- 0.053 [+- 0.041 (stat.) +- 0.034 (syst.)], respectively. This result is consistent at the 98% level with the standard model. A measurement with f_0 fixed to the value from the standard model yields f_+ = 0.010 +- 0.037 [+- 0.022 (stat.) +- 0.030 (syst.) ].

Measurement of the differential cross section dσ/dt in elastic $p\bar{p}$ scattering at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV

We present a measurement of the elastic differential cross section $dσ(p\bar{p}\rightarrow p\bar{p})/dt$ as a function of the four-momentum-transfer squared t. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $\approx 31 nb^{-1}$ collected with the D0 detector using dedicated Tevatron $p\bar{p} $ Collider operating conditions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV and covers the range $0.26 <|t|< 1.2 GeV^2$. For $|t|<0.6 GeV^2$, dσ/dt is described by an exponential function of the form $Ae^{-b|t|}$ with a slope parameter $ b = 16.86 \pm 0.10(stat) \pm 0.20(syst) GeV^{-2}$. A change in slope is observed at $|t| \approx 0.6 GeV^2$, followed by a more gradual |t| dependence with increasing values of |t|.

Precise measurement of the top quark mass in the dilepton channel at D0

We measure the top quark mass (mt) in ppbar collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV using dilepton ttbar->W+bW-bbar->l+nubl-nubarbbar events, where l denotes an electron, a muon, or a tau that decays leptonically. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb-1 collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We obtain mt = 174.0 +- 1.8(stat) +- 2.4(syst) GeV, which is in agreement with the current world average mt = 173.3 +- 1.1 GeV. This is currently the most precise measurement of mt in the dilepton channel.

Search for pair production of the scalar top quark in the electron-muon final state

We report the result of a search for the pair production of the lightest supersymmetric partner of the top quark ($\tilde{t}_1$) in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb$^{-1}$. The scalar top quarks are assumed to decay into a $b$ quark, a charged lepton, and a scalar neutrino ($\tildeν$), and the search is performed in the electron plus muon final state. No significant excess of events above the standard model prediction is detected, and improved exclusion limits at the 95% C.L. are set in the the ($M_{\tilde{t}_1}$,$M_{\tildeν}$) mass plane.

Determination of the width of the top quark

We extract the total width of the top quark, Gamma_t, from the partial decay width Gamma(t -> W b) measured using the t-channel cross section for single top quark production and from the branching fraction B(t -> W b) measured in ttbar events using up to 2.3 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 Collaboration at the Tevatron ppbar Collider. The result is Gamma_t = 1.99 +0.69 -0.55 GeV, which translates to a top-quark lifetime of tau_t = (3.3 +1.3 -0.9) x 10^-25 s. Assuming a high mass fourth generation b' quark and unitarity of the four-generation quark-mixing matrix, we set the first upper limit on |Vtb'| < 0.63 at 95% C.L.

Asymmetries in the Production of Lambda0 in 250 GeV/c pi+-, K+- and p -- Nucleon Interactions

Using data from Fermilab fixed-target experiment E769, we have measured particle-antiparticle production asymmetries for Lambda0 hyperons in 250 GeV/c pi+-, K+- and p -- nucleon interactions. The asymmetries are measured as functions of Feynman-x (x_F) and p_t^2 over the ranges -0.12<=x_F<=0.12 and 0<=p_t^2<=3 (GeV/c)^2 (for positive beam) and -0.12<=x_F<=0.4 and 0<=p_t^2<=10 (GeV/c)^2 (for negative beam). We find substantial asymmetries, even at x_F around zero. We also observe leading-particle-type asymmetries. These latter effects are qualitatively as expected from valence-quark content of the target and variety of projectiles studied.
