Influence of anisotropic matter on the Alcubierre metric and other related metrics: revisiting the problem of negative energy

Negative energy scenarios are the most widely studied for the warp metric. In fact, the prevailing view in the community so far has been that the warp metric necessarily has negative energies. In this work it is shown that the issue of negative energy densities associated with the Alcubierre warp metric with a general form function and similar metrics can be addressed when the whole non--vacuum Einstein equations of the system are examined. To this end, we have considered matter content in the form of anisotropic fluids. We have succeeded in writing the Einstein equations in such a way that some general constraints on the material content become evident. This means that, in rectangular coordinates, the energy density depends necessarily on the tangential pressures of the fluid. For matter such as dust or isotropic fluids we find that density and other related quantities become identically zero. This makes the negative energy problem spurious. It is also revealed that constructing Alcubierre-based metrics using cylindrical and spherical coordinates results in a system of equations that are amenable to more systematic analysis. The field equations constrain the dependence of the form function and how this impacts the matter content. In all cases we determine that energy density is not mandatory negative, despite the recurrent claims in the literature. This result prompts a reevaluation of the negative energy requirements and underscore the importance of cylindrical and spherical type-warps to demonstrate that negative energy density is not an intrinsic unavoidable feature of warp drives.

The general relativistic double polytrope for anisotropic matter

A general formalism recently proposed to study Newtonian polytropes for anisotropic fluids is here extended to the relativistic regime. Thus, it is assumed that a polytropic equation of state is satisfied by, both, the radial and the tangential pressures of the fluid. Doing so the generalized Lane--Emden equations are obtained and solved. Some specific models are obtained, and their physical properties are discussed.

The double polytrope for anisotropic matter: Newtonian Case

A general formalism developed few years ago to model polytropic Newtonian stars with anisotropic pressure is applied to model stars for which, both, radial and tangential pressure satisfy polytropic equations of state. We obtain the corresponding Lane--Emden equation, and integrate it for a wide range of values of the parameters, thereby illustrating the effects of the pressure anisotropy on stellar objects. We calculate Chandrasekhar mass for a white dwarf and compare it with previous results. Finally, prospective applications to some astrophysical scenarios are discussed.

On global aspects of duality invariant theories: M2-brane vs DFT

Supermembrane compactified on a $M_9\times T^2$ target space is globally described by the inequivalent classes of torus bundles over torus. These torus bundles have monodromy in $SL(2,Z)$ when they correspond to the nontrivial central charge sector and they are trivial otherwise. The first ones contain eight inequivalent classes of M2-brane bundles which at low energies, are in correspondence with the eight type II gauged supergravities in $9D$. The relation among them is completely determined by the global action of T-duality which interchanges topological invariants of the two tori. The M2-brane torus bundles are invariant under $SL(2,Z)\times SL(2,Z) \times Z_2$. From the effective point of view, there is another dual invariant theory, called Double Field Theory which describe invariant actions under $O(D,D)$. Globally it is formulated in terms of doubled $2D$ torus fibrations over the spacetime with a monodromy given by $O(D,D,Z)$. In this note we discuss T-duality global aspects considered in both theories and we emphasize certain similarities between both approaches which could give some hints towards a deeper relationship between them.
