Topology of contact points in Lieb-kagomé model

We analyse Lieb-kagomé model, a three-band model with contact points showing particular examples of the merging of Dirac contact points. We prove that eigenstates can be parametrized in a classification surface, which is a hypersurface of a 4-dimension space. This classification surface is a powerful device giving topological properties of the energy band structure; the analysis of its fundamental group proves that all singularities of the band structure can be characterized by four independent winding (integer) numbers. Lieb case separates: its classification surface differs and there is only one winding number.

Incompatible Coulomb hamiltonian extensions

We revisit the resolution of the one-dimensional Schrödinger hamiltonian with a Coulomb $λ$/|x| potential. We examine among its self-adjoint extensions those which are compatible with physical conservation laws. In the one-dimensional semi-infinite case, we show that they are classified on a U(1) circle in the attractive case and on (R,$\infty$) in the repulsive one. In the one-dimensional infinite case, we find a specific and original classification by studying the continuity of eigenfunctions. In all cases, different extensions are incompatible one with the other. For an actual experiment with an attractive potential, the bound spectrum can be used to discriminate which extension is the correct one.

Charge and Spin Density Waves observed through their spatial fluctuations by coherent and simultaneous X-ray diffraction

Spatial uctuations of spin density wave (SDW) and charge density wave (CDW) in chromium have been compared by combining coherent and simultaneous X-ray diffraction experiments. Despite their close relationship, spatial fluctuations of the spin and of the charge density waves display a very different behavior: the satellite reflection associated to the charge density displays speckles while the spin one displays an impressive long-range order. This observation is hardly compatible with the commonly accepted magneto-elastic origin of CDW in chromium and is more consistent with a purely electronic scenario where CDW is the second harmonic of SDW. A BCS model taking into account a second order nesting predicts correctly the existence of a CDW and explains why the CDW is more sensitive to punctual defects.

The one-dimensional Coulomb Problem

One-dimensional scattering by a Coulomb potential V(x)=lambda/|x| is studied for both repulsive (c>0) and attractive (c<0) cases. Two methods of regularizing the singularity at x=0 are used, yielding the same conclusion, namely, that the transmission vanishes. For an attractive potential (c<0), two groups of bound states are found. The first one consists of "regular" (Rydberg) bound states, respecting standard orthogonality relations. The second set consists of "anomalous"} bound states (in a sense to be clarified), which always relax as coherent states.

Magnetic field induced singlet - triplet phase transition in quasi one-dimensional organic superconductors

We propose a theoretical model of quasi-one-dimensional superconductors, with attractive electron-electron interactions dominant in the singlet d-wave channel and sub-dominant in the p-wave channel. We discuss, in the mean field approximation, the effect of a magnetic field applied perpendicularly to the direction of the lowest conductivity. The lowest free energy phase corresponds to a singlet d-wave symmetry in low fields, but to a triplet symmetry in high fields. A first order singlet-triplet phase transition is expected at moderate applied fields of a few teslas. We propose to ascribe the recent critical field and NMR experimental data, observed in superconducting (TMTSF)2ClO4 to such an effect.

Renormalization Group calculations with k|| dependent couplings in a ladder

We calculate the phase diagram of a ladder system, with a Hubbard interaction and an interchain coupling $t_\perp$. We use a Renormalization Group method, in a one loop expansion, introducing an original method to include $k_{||}$ dependence of couplings. We also classify the order parameters corresponding to ladder instabilities. We obtain different results, depending on whether we include $k_{||}$ dependence or not. When we do so, we observe a region with large antiferromagnetic fluctuations, in the vicinity of small $t_\perp$, followed by a superconducting region with a simultaneous divergence of the Spin Density Waves channel. We also investigate the effect of a non local backward interchain scattering : we observe, on one hand, the suppression of singlet superconductivity and of Spin Density Waves, and, on the other hand, the increase of Charge Density Waves and, for some values of $t_\perp$, of triplet superconductivity. Our results eventually show that $k_{||}$ is an influential variable in the Renormalization Group flow, for this kind of systems.
