United States Muon Collider Community White Paper for the European Strategy for Particle Physics Update

This document is being submitted to the 2024-2026 European Strategy for Particle Physics Update (ESPPU) process on behalf of the US Muon Collider community, with its preparation coordinated by the interim US Muon Collider Coordination Group. The US Muon Collider Community comprises a few hundred American scientists. The purpose of the document is to inform ESPPU about the US plans for Muon Collider research and development (R&D), explain how these efforts align with the broader international R&D initiatives, and present the US community vision for the future realization of this transformative project.

Functional Verification for Endcap Concentrator ASICs in the High-Granularity Calorimeter Upgrade of CMS

The High-Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL) will replace the current CMS Endcap Calorimeter during Long-Shutdown 3. The Endcap Concentrator (ECON) ASICs represent key elements in the readout chain, processing trigger (ECON-T) and data (ECON-D) streams from the HGCROC to the lpGBT. The ECONs will operate in a radiation environment with a High-Energy Hadron (${E\geq20MeV}$) flux up to $2\cdot10^{7} cm^{-2}s^{-1}$. This contribution describes the Universal Verification Methodology (UVM)-based functional verification of the ECON ASICs focusing on the re-use of existing components to manage the complexity of the verification environment.

Dual-readout calorimetry with homogeneous crystals

High resolution calorimetry with state-of-the-art energy resolution performance for both electromagnetic (EM) and hadronic signals can be achieved using the dual-readout (DR) technique, both in a homogeneous scintillating-crystal calorimeter and in a traditional fiber and absorber-based DR hadronic section. We present results from the CalVision consortium studying the collection of Cerenkov and scintillation signals in PbWO$_4$ and BGO crystal samples exposed to 120\,GeV proton beams at the Fermilab Test Beam Facility, including proof-of-principle measurements aimed at demonstrating the identification of a sufficiently large Cerenkov signal in homogeneous scintillating crystals to support dual-readout capability.
