Integrable models of inflation beyond slow-roll

We propose a novel analytic approach to the study of multi-component FLRW cosmologies and their perturbations. The dynamics is triggered by a single scalar field with a scalar potential codifying the energy density and pressure of the multi-component fluid. This description unifies standard Big Bang cosmologies, models of inflation and dark energy under a unique framework. The key to integrability is to express the scalar potential in terms of the Hubble function $H(\phi)$ that plays the role of a fake superpotential, turning the dynamics into a first order problem, that may be analytically solved in a suitable time coordinate. In this framework, we propose integrable inflationary models with similar properties to the ones analysed in the literature and compatible with observations. Finally, we study scalar and tensor cosmological perturbations in each model by integrating Mukhanov-Sasaki equations via numerical and (semi-)analytic techniques. This allow us to compute the power spectrum, the spectral indices and the tensor-to-scalar ratio beyond the slow-roll approximation and compare our general results {against} the currently available observations and the theoretical predictions based on the slow-roll approximation.

Black holes as bubbles of AdS

In this paper we propose that bubbles of AdS within Minkowski spacetime, stabilized at a finite radius by stiff matter and an electromagnetic gas, can be an alternative endpoint of gravitational collapse. The bubbles are horizonless with a size up to 12.5% larger than their Schwarzschild radius depending on their charge. We argue that they are stable against small perturbations, and have thermodynamical properties similar to those of real black holes. We provide a realization of the bubbles within string theory that relies on a specific brane intersection giving rise to a shell carrying dissolved charges from lower dimensional D-branes as well as a gas of open strings. We also note that our construction provides a new way of understanding the entropy of Reissner-Nordström black holes in the extremal limit.

A swamp of non-SUSY vacua

We consider known examples of non-supersymmetric AdS$_7$ and AdS$_4$ solutions arising from compactifications of massive type IIA supergravity and study their stability, taking into account the coupling between closed- and open-string sector excitations. Generically, open strings are found to develop modes with masses below the Breitenlohner-Freedman (BF) bound. We comment on the relation with the Weak Gravity Conjecture, and how this analysis may play an important role in examining the validity of non-supersymmetric constructions in string theory.

Universal isolation in the AdS landscape

We study the universal conditions for quantum non-perturbative stability against bubble nucleation for pertubatively stable AdS vacua based on positive energy theorems. We also compare our analysis with the pre-existing ones in the literature carried out within the thin-wall approximation. The aforementioned criterion is then tested in two explicit examples describing massive type IIA string theory compactified on $S^3$ and $S^3\,\times\,S^3$, respectively. The AdS landscape of both classes of compactifications is known to consist of a set of isolated points. The main result is that all critical points respecting the Breitenlohner-Freedaman (BF) bound also turn out be stable at a non-perturbative level. Finally, we speculate on the possible universal features that may be extracted from the above specific examples.

Universal dS vacua in STU-models

Stable de Sitter solutions in minimal F-term supergravity are known to lie close to Minkowski critical points. We consider a class of STU-models arising from type IIB compactifications with generalised fluxes. There, we apply an analytical method for solving the equations of motion for the moduli fields based on the idea of treating derivatives of the superpotential of different orders up to third as independent objects. In particular, supersymmetric and no-scale Minkowski solutions are singled out by physical reasons. Focusing on the study of dS vacua close to supersymmetric Minkowski points, we are able to elaborate a complete analytical treatment of the mass matrix based on the sGoldstino bound. This leads to a class of interesting universal dS vacua. We finally explore a similar possibility around no-scale Minkowski points and discuss some examples.

The SU(3)-invariant sector of new maximal supergravity

We investigate the SU(3)-invariant sector of the one-parameter family of SO(8) gauged maximal supergravity that has been recently proposed. To this end, we construct the N=2 truncation of this theory and analyse its full vacuum structure. The number of critical point is doubled and includes new N=0 and N=1 branches. We numerically exhibit the parameter dependence of the location and cosmological constant of all extrema. Moreover, we provide their analytic expressions for cases of special interest. Connections with three-dimensional RG-flows are pointed out. Finally, while the mass spectra are found to be parameter independent in most cases, we show that the novel non-supersymmetric branch with SU(3) invariance provides the first counterexample to this.

Duality orbits of non-geometric fluxes

Compactifications in duality covariant constructions such as generalised geometry and double field theory have proven to be suitable frameworks to reproduce gauged supergravities containing non-geometric fluxes. However, it is a priori unclear whether these approaches only provide a reformulation of old results, or also contain new physics. To address this question, we classify the T- and U-duality orbits of gaugings of (half-)maximal supergravities in dimensions seven and higher. It turns out that all orbits have a geometric supergravity origin in the maximal case, while there are non-geometric orbits in the half-maximal case. We show how the latter are obtained from compactifications of double field theory.
