Precision studies for the partonic kinematics calculation through Machine Learning

High Energy collider experiments are moving to the highest precision frontier quickly. The predictions of observables are based on the factorization formula which helps to connect small to large distances. These predictions can be contrasted with experimental measurements and the success of this phenomenological approach is based on the correct description of nature. The application of the method to proton-proton colliders brings new challenges due to the proton structure and the detectors efficiency on reconstructing hadrons. Furthermore, since the non-perturbative distribution functions takes an important role to describe the experimental distributions, the presence of them makes the information of the partons diluted. At Leading Order (LO) in perturbative calculations, the momentum fractions involved in hard scattering processes are known exactly in terms of kinematical variables of initial and final states hadrons. However, at Next-to-Leading Order (NLO) and beyond, a closed analytical formula is not available. Furthermore, from the pure theoretical calculation, the exact definition of the momentum fraction is very challenging. In this work, we report a methodology based on Machine Learning techniques for the extraction of momentum fractions for $p+p\toπ^++γ$ using a Monte Carlo simulation including quantum corrections up to Next-to-Leading Order in Quantum Chromodynamics and Leading Order in Quantum Electrodymics. Our findings point towards a methodology to find the fundamental properties of the internal structure of hadrons because the reconstructed momentum fractions deeply relate our perturbative models with experimental measurements.

May the four be with you: Novel IR-subtraction methods to tackle NNLO calculations

In this report, we present a discussion about different frameworks to perform precise higher-order computations for high-energy physics. These approaches implement novel strategies to deal with infrared and ultraviolet singularities in quantum field theories. A special emphasis is devoted to the local cancellation of these singularities, which can enhance the efficiency of computations and lead to discover novel mathematical properties in quantum field theories.

Theory for the FCC-ee : Report on the 11th FCC-ee Workshop

The Future Circular Collider (FCC) at CERN, a proposed 100-km circular facility with several colliders in succession, culminates with a 100 TeV proton-proton collider. It offers a vast new domain of exploration in particle physics, with orders of magnitude advances in terms of Precision, Sensitivity and Energy. The implementation plan foresees, as a first step, an Electroweak Factory electron-positron collider. This high luminosity facility, operating between 90 and 365 GeV centre-of-mass energy, will study the heavy particles of the Standard Model, Z, W, Higgs, and top with unprecedented accuracy. The Electroweak Factory $e^+e^-$ collider constitutes a real challenge to the theory and to precision calculations, triggering the need for the development of new mathematical methods and software tools. A first workshop in 2018 had focused on the first FCC-ee stage, the Tera-Z, and confronted the theoretical status of precision Standard Model calculations on the Z-boson resonance to the experimental demands. The second workshop in January 2019, which is reported here, extended the scope to the next stages, with the production of W-bosons (FCC-ee-W), the Higgs boson (FCC-ee-H) and top quarks (FCC-ee-tt). In particular, the theoretical precision in the determination of the crucial input parameters, alpha_QED, alpha_QCD, M_W, m_t at the level of FCC-ee requirements is thoroughly discussed. The requirements on Standard Model theory calculations were spelled out, so as to meet the demanding accuracy of the FCC-ee experimental potential. The discussion of innovative methods and tools for multi-loop calculations was deepened. Furthermore, phenomenological analyses beyond the Standard Model were discussed, in particular the effective theory approaches. The reports of 2018 and 2019 serve as white papers of the workshop results and subsequent developments.

NLO cross sections in 4 dimensions without DREG

In this review, we present a new method for computing physical cross sections at NLO accuracy in QCD without using the standard Dimensional Regularisation. The algorithm is based on the Loop-Tree Duality theorem, which allow us to obtain loop integrals as a sum of phase-space integrals; in this way, transforming loop integrals into phase-space integrals, we propose a method to merge virtual and real contributions in order to find observables at NLO in $d=4$ space-time dimensions. In addition, the strategy described is used for computing the $γ^*\to q\bar{q}(g)$ process. A more detailed discussion related on this topic can be found in Ref [1].
