Study of Resonant Structures in a Deformed Mean-Field by the Contour Deformation Method in Momentum Space

Solution of the momentum space Schrödinger equation in the case of deformed fields is being addressed. In particular it is shown that a complete set of single particle states which includes bound, resonant and complex continuum states may be obtained by the Contour Deformation Method. This generalized basis in the complex energy plane is known as a Berggren basis. The momentum space Schrödinger equation is an integral equation which is easily solved by matrix diagonalization routines even for the case of deformed fields. The method is demonstrated for axial symmetry and a fictitious "deformed $^5$He", but may be extended to more general deformation and applied to truly deformed halo nuclei.

Effective Interaction Techniques for the Gamow Shell Model

We apply a contour deformation technique in momentum space to the newly developed Gamow shell model, and study the drip-line nuclei 5He, 6He and 7He. A major problem in Gamow shell-model studies of nuclear many-body systems is the increasing dimensionality of many-body configurations due to the large number of resonant and complex continuum states necessary to reproduce bound and resonant state energies. We address this problem using two different effective operator approaches generalized to the complex momentum plane. These are the Lee-Suzuki similarity transformation method for complex interactions and the multi-reference perturbation theory method. The combination of these two approaches results in a large truncation of the relevant configurations compared with direct diagonalization. This offers interesting perspectives for studies of weakly bound systems.

Nuclear Structure Calculations with Coupled Cluster Methods from Quantum Chemistry

We present several coupled-cluster calculations of ground and excited states of 4He and 16O employing methods from quantum chemistry. A comparison of coupled cluster results with the results of exact diagonalization of the hamiltonian in the same model space and other truncated shell-model calculations shows that the quantum chemistry inspired coupled cluster approximations provide an excellent description of ground and excited states of nuclei, with much less computational effort than traditional large-scale shell-model approaches. Unless truncations are made, for nuclei like 16O, full-fledged shell-model calculations with four or more major shells are not possible. However, these and even larger systems can be studied with the coupled cluster methods due to the polynomial rather than factorial scaling inherent in standard shell-model studies. This makes the coupled cluster approaches, developed in quantum chemistry, viable methods for describing weakly bound systems of interest for future nuclear facilities.

Generalized contour deformation method in momentum space: two-body spectral structures and scattering amplitudes

A generalized contour deformation method (GCDM) which combines complex rotation and translation in momentum space, is discussed. GCDM gives accurate results for bound, virtual (antibound), resonant and scattering states starting with a realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction. It provides a basis for full off-shell $t$-matrix calculations both for real and complex input energies. Results for both spectral structures and scattering amplitudes compare perfectly well with exact values for the separable Yamaguchi potential. Accurate calculation of virtual states in the Malfliet-Tjon and the realistic CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon interactions are presented. GCDM is also a promising method for the computation of in-medium properties such as the resummation of particle-particle and particle-hole diagrams in infinite nuclear matter. Implications for in-medium scattering are discussed.
