An algebraic/numerical formalism for one-loop multi-leg amplitudes

We present a formalism for the calculation of multi-particle one-loop amplitudes, valid for an arbitrary number N of external legs, and for massive as well as massless particles. A new method for the tensor reduction is suggested which naturally isolates infrared divergences by construction. We prove that for N>4, higher dimensional integrals can be avoided. We derive many useful relations which allow for algebraic simplifications of one-loop amplitudes. We introduce a form factor representation of tensor integrals which contains no inverse Gram determinants by choosing a convenient set of basis integrals. For the evaluation of these basis integrals we propose two methods: An evaluation based on the analytical representation, which is fast and accurate away from exceptional kinematical configurations, and a robust numerical one, based on multi-dimensional contour deformation. The formalism can be implemented straightforwardly into a computer program to calculate next-to-leading order corrections to multi-particle processes in a largely automated way.

A numerical evaluation of the scalar hexagon integral in the physical region

We derive an analytic expression for the scalar one-loop pentagon and hexagon functions which is convenient for subsequent numerical integration. These functions are of relevance in the computation of next-to-leading order radiative corrections to multi-particle cross sections. The hexagon integral is represented in terms of n-dimensional triangle functions and (n+2)-dimensional box functions. If infrared poles are present this representation naturally splits into a finite and a pole part. For a fast numerical integration of the finite part we propose simple one- and two-dimensional integral representations. We set up an iterative numerical integration method to calculate these integrals directly in an efficient way. The method is illustrated by explicit results for pentagon and hexagon functions with some generic physical kinematics.

Theoretical estimation of density profile of semiflexible polymers adsorbed on a surface and thermodynamic glass transition scenario by means of the Bethe-Peierls approximation

We develop a theory describing density profile of the semi-flexible polymers absorbed onto a planar surface. The theoretical analysis consists of two parts. As a first part, we calculate a density profile of the adsorbed polymers by developing an extension of the Bethe-Peierls approximation to the case of nonhomogeneous systems. This approach relies on the combination of the single chain adsorption theory and the lattice version of the self-consistent field theory. Semi-flexibility of a chain is described by incorporating a finite coordination number of the lattice into the consideration, in the spirit of the previous Silberberg approach. The developed lattice theory incorporates the interaction between nearest-neighbor pairs of segments and finite chain length. The theory is completely mapped into the Scheutjens-Fleer theory in the limit of infinite coordination number. As a second part of the developed approach, we calculate the configurational entropy to investigate how the density structure of the semi-flexible polymers near the surface relates to possible reduction of glass transition temperature near nonabsorbing surface and enhancement near the strongly attractive surface.

Effects of particle distribution on mechanical properties of magneto-sensitive elastomers in a homogeneous magnetic field

We propose a theory which describes the mechanical behaviour of magneto-sensitive elastomers (MSEs) under a uniform external magnetic field. We focus on the MSEs with isotropic spatial distribution of magnetic particles. A mechanical model is used in which magnetic particles are arranged on the sites of three regular lattices: simple cubic, body-centered cubic and hexagonal close-packed lattices. By this we extend our previous approach [Ivaneyko D. et al., Macromolecular Theory and Simulations, 2011, 20, 411] which used only a simple cubic lattice for describing the spatial distribution of the particles. The magneto-induced deformation and the Young's modulus of MSEs are calculated as functions of the strength of the external magnetic field. We show that the magneto-mechanical behaviour of MSEs is very sensitive to the spatial distribution of the magnetic particles. MSEs can demonstrate either uniaxial expansion or contraction along the magnetic field and the Young's modulus can be an increasing or decreasing function of the strength of the magnetic field depending on the spatial distribution of the magnetic particles.

The SM and NLO Multileg and SM MC Working Groups: Summary Report

The 2011 Les Houches workshop was the first to confront LHC data. In the two years since the previous workshop there have been significant advances in both soft and hard QCD, particularly in the areas of multi-leg NLO calculations, the inclusion of those NLO calculations into parton shower Monte Carlos, and the tuning of the non-perturbative parameters of those Monte Carlos. These proceedings describe the theoretical advances that have taken place, the impact of the early LHC data, and the areas for future development.

NLO QCD corrections to the production of W+ W- plus two jets at the LHC

We present the full NLO QCD corrections to the production of a W^+W^- pair in association with two jets in hadronic collisions, which is an important background to New Physics and Higgs boson searches. We include leptonic decays of the W-bosons with full spin correlations. We find NLO corrections of the order of 10% for standard cuts at the LHC. The scale dependence is considerably reduced by the NLO corrections.

Automated one-loop calculations with GoSam

In this talk, the program package GOSAM is presented, which can be used for the automated calculation of one-loop amplitudes for multi-particle processes. The integrands are generated in terms of Feynman diagrams and can be reduced by d-dimensional integrand-level decomposition, or tensor reduction, or a combination of both. Through various examples we show that GOSAM can produce one-loop amplitudes for both QCD and electroweak theory; model files for theories Beyond the Standard Model can be linked as well.

Magneto-sensitive elastomers in a homogeneous magnetic field: a regular rectangular lattice model

A theory of mechanical behaviour of the magneto-sensitive elastomers is developed in the framework of a linear elasticity approach. Using a regular rectangular lattice model, different spatial distributions of magnetic particles within a polymer matrix are considered: isotropic, chain-like and plane-like. It is shown that interaction between the magnetic particles results in the contraction of an elastomer along the homogeneous magnetic field. With increasing magnetic field the shear modulus for the shear deformation perpendicular to the magnetic field increases for all spatial distributions of magnetic particles. At the same time, with increasing magnetic field the Young's modulus for tensile deformation along the magnetic field decreases for both chain-like and isotropic distributions of magnetic particles and increases for the plane-like distribution of magnetic particles.

Anisotropic generalization of Stinchcombe's solution for conductivity of random resistor network on a Bethe lattice

Our study is based on the work of Stinchcombe [1974 \emph{J. Phys. C} \textbf{7} 179] and is devoted to the calculations of average conductivity of random resistor networks placed on an anisotropic Bethe lattice. The structure of the Bethe lattice is assumed to represent the normal directions of the regular lattice. We calculate the anisotropic conductivity as an expansion in powers of inverse coordination number of the Bethe lattice. The expansion terms retained deliver an accurate approximation of the conductivity at resistor concentrations above the percolation threshold. We make a comparison of our analytical results with those of Bernasconi [1974 \emph{Phys. Rev. B} \textbf{9} 4575] for the regular lattice.

Bethe-Peierls Approximation for Linear Monodisperse Polymers Re-examined

Bethe-Peierls approximation, as it applies to the thermodynamics of polymer melts, is reviewed. We compare the computed configurational entropy of monodisperse linear polymer melt with Monte Carlo data available in literature. An estimation of the configurational contribution to the total liquid's Cp is presented. We also discuss the relation between Kauzmann paradox and polymer semiflexibility.

Golem95C: A library for one-loop integrals with complex masses

We present a program for the numerical evaluation of scalar integrals and tensor form factors entering the calculation of one-loop amplitudes which supports the use of complex masses in the loop integrals. The program is built on an earlier version of the golem95 library, which performs the reduction to a certain set of basis integrals using a formalism where inverse Gram determinants can be avoided. It can be used to calculate one-loop amplitudes with arbitrary masses in an algebraic approach as well as in the context of a unitarity-inspired numerical reconstruction of the integrand.

Tensorial Reconstruction at the Integrand Level

We present a new approach to the reduction of one-loop amplitudes obtained by reconstructing the tensorial expression of the scattering amplitudes. The reconstruction is performed at the integrand level by means of a sampling in the integration momentum. There are several interesting applications of this novel method within existing techniques for the reduction of one-loop multi-leg amplitudes: to deal with numerically unstable points, such as in the vicinity of a vanishing Gram determinant; to allow for a sampling of the numerator function based on real values of the integration momentum; to optimize the numerical reduction in the case of long expressions for the numerator functions.
