Complete Condensation in a Zero Range Process on Scale-Free Networks

We study a zero range process on scale-free networks in order to investigate how network structure influences particle dynamics. The zero range process is defined with the particle jumping rate function $p(n)=n^δ$. We show analytically that a complete condensation occurs when $δ\leq δ_c \equiv 1/(γ-1)$ where $γ$ is the degree distribution exponent of the underlying networks. In the complete condensation, those nodes whose degree is higher than a threshold are occupied by macroscopic numbers of particles, while the other nodes are occupied by negligible numbers of particles. We also show numerically that the relaxation time follows a power-law scaling $τ\sim L^z$ with the network size $L$ and a dynamic exponent $z$ in the condensed phase.

Analytic study of the three-urn model for separation of sand

We present an analytic study of the three-urn model for separation of sand. We solve analytically the master equation and the first-passage problem. We find that the stationary probability distribution obeys the detailed balance and is governed by the {\it free energy}. We find that the characteristic lifetime of a cluster diverges algebraically with exponent 1/3 at the limit of stability.

The Blume-Emery-Griffiths neural network: dynamics for arbitrary temperature

The parallel dynamics of the fully connected Blume-Emery-Griffiths neural network model is studied for arbitrary temperature. By employing a probabilistic signal-to-noise approach, a recursive scheme is found determining the time evolution of the distribution of the local fields and, hence, the evolution of the order parameters. A comparison of this approach is made with the generating functional method, allowing to calculate any physical relevant quantity as a function of time. Explicit analytic formula are given in both methods for the first few time steps of the dynamics. Up to the third time step the results are identical. Some arguments are presented why beyond the third time step the results differ for certain values of the model parameters. Furthermore, fixed-point equations are derived in the stationary limit. Numerical simulations confirm our theoretical findings.

Optimal Capacity of the Blume-Emery-Griffiths perceptron

A Blume-Emery-Griffiths perceptron model is introduced and its optimal capacity is calculated within the replica-symmetric Gardner approach, as a function of the pattern activity and the imbedding stability parameter. The stability of the replica-symmetric approximation is studied via the analogue of the Almeida-Thouless line. A comparison is made with other three-state perceptrons.

Analytic study of the urn model for separation of sand

We present an analytic study of the urn model for separation of sand recently introduced by Lipowski and Droz (Phys. Rev. E 65, 031307 (2002)). We solve analytically the master equation and the first-passage problem. The analytic results confirm the numerical results obtained by Lipowski and Droz. We find that the stationary probability distribution and the shortest one among the characteristic times are governed by the same free energy. We also analytically derive the form of the critical probability distribution on the critical line, which supports their results obtained by numerically calculating Binder cumulants (cond-mat/0201472).

Parallel dynamics of the fully connected Blume-Emery-Griffiths neural network

The parallel dynamics of the fully connected Blume-Emery-Griffiths neural network model is studied at zero temperature for arbitrary using a probabilistic approach. A recursive scheme is found determining the complete time evolution of the order parameters, taking into account all feedback correlations. It is based upon the evolution of the distribution of the local field, the structure of which is determined in detail. As an illustrative example, explicit analytic formula are given for the first few time steps of the dynamics. Furthermore, equilibrium fixed-point equations are derived and compared with the thermodynamic approach. The analytic results find excellent confirmation in extensive numerical simulations.

Local field dynamics in symmetric Q-Ising neural networks

The time evolution of the local field in symmetric Q-Ising neural networks is studied for arbitrary Q. In particular, the structure of the noise and the appearance of gaps in the probability distribution are discussed. Results are presented for several values of Q and compared with numerical simulations.

Thermodynamic properties of extremely diluted symmetric Q-Ising neural networks

Using the replica-symmetric mean-field theory approach the thermodynamic and retrieval properties of extremely diluted {\it symmetric} $Q$-Ising neural networks are studied. In particular, capacity-gain parameter and capacity-temperature phase diagrams are derived for $Q=3, 4$ and $Q=\infty$. The zero-temperature results are compared with those obtained from a study of the dynamics of the model. Furthermore, the de Almeida-Thouless line is determined. Where appropriate, the difference with other $Q$-Ising architectures is outlined.

Q-Ising neural network dynamics: a comparative review of various architectures

This contribution reviews the parallel dynamics of Q-Ising neural networks for various architectures: extremely diluted asymmetric, layered feedforward, extremely diluted symmetric, and fully connected. Using a probabilistic signal-to-noise ratio analysis, taking into account all feedback correlations, which are strongly dependent upon these architectures the evolution of the distribution of the local field is found. This leads to a recursive scheme determining the complete time evolution of the order parameters of the network. Arbitrary Q and mainly zero temperature are considered. For the asymmetrically diluted and the layered feedforward network a closed-form solution is obtained while for the symmetrically diluted and fully connected architecture the feedback correlations prevent such a closed-form solution. For these symmetric networks equilibrium fixed-point equations can be derived under certain conditions on the noise in the system. They are the same as those obtained in a thermodynamic replica-symmetric mean-field theory approach.

A replica approach to the state-dependent synapses neural network

The replica method is applied to a neural network model with state-dependent synapses built from those patterns having a correlation with the state of the system greater than a certain threshold. Replica-symmetric and first-step replica-symmetry-breaking results are presented for the storage capacity at zero temperature as a function of this threshold value. A comparison is made with existing results based upon mean-field equations obtained by using a statistical method.

Parallel dynamics of extremely diluted symmetric Q-Ising neural networks

The parallel dynamics of extremely diluted symmetric Q-Ising neural networks is studied for arbitrary Q using a probabilistic approach. In spite of the extremely diluted architecture the feedback correlations arising from the symmetry prevent a closed-form solution in contrast with the extremely diluted asymmetric model. A recursive scheme is found determining the complete time evolution of the order parameters taking into account all feedback. It is based upon the evolution of the distribution of the local field, as in the fully connected model. As an illustrative example an explicit analysis is carried out for the Q=2 and Q=3 model. These results agree with and extend the partial results existing for Q=2. For Q>2 the analysis is entirely new. Finally, equilibrium fixed-point equations are derived and a capacity-gain function diagram is obtained.

Parallel dynamics of fully connected Q-Ising neural networks

Using a probabilistic approach we study the parallel dynamics of fully connected Q-Ising neural networks for arbitrary Q. A Lyapunov function is shown to exist at zero temperature. A recursive scheme is set up to determine the time evolution of the order parameters through the evolution of the distribution of the local field. As an illustrative example, an explicit analysis is carried out for the first three time steps. For the case of the Q=3 model these theoretical results are compared with extensive numerical simulations. Finally, equilibrium fixed-point equations are derived and compared with the thermodynamic approach based upon the replica-symmetric mean-field approximation.
