Adiabatic Chemical Freeze-out and Wide Resonance Modification in a Thermal Medium

Here we develop a model equation of state which successfully parameterizes the thermodynamic functions of hadron resonance gas model at chemical freeze-out and which allows us to naturally explain the adiabatic chemical freeze-out criterion. The present model enables us to clearly demonstrate that at chemical freeze-out the resulting hadronic mass spectrum used in the hadron resonance gas model is not an exponential-like, but a power-like. We argue that such a property of hadronic mass spectrum at chemical freeze-out can be explained by the two new effects found here for wide resonances existing in a thermal environment: the near threshold thermal resonance enhancement and the near threshold resonance sharpening. The effect of resonance sharpening is studied for a sigma meson and our analysis shows that for the temperatures well below 92 MeV the effective width of sigma meson is about 50 to 70 MeV. Thus, the effect of resonance sharpening justifies the usage of the sigma-like field-theoretical models for the strongly interacting matter equation of state at such temperatures. Also we argue that the most optimistic hope to find the quark gluon bags experimentally may be related to their sharpening and enhancement in a thermal medium. In this case the wide quark gluon bags may appear directly or in decays as narrow resonances that are absent in the tables of elementary particles and that have the width about 50-150 MeV and the mass about or above 2.5 GeV.

Critical exponents of the quark-gluon bags model with the critical endpoint

The critical indices α', β, γ' and δof the Quark Gluon Bags with Surface Tension Model that has the critical endpoint are calculated and compared with the exponents of other models. These indices are expressed in terms of the most general parameters of the model. Despite the usual expectations the found critical indices do not depend on the Fisher exponent τand on the parameter \varkappa which relates the mean bag surface to its volume. The scaling relations for the obtained critical exponents are verified and it is demonstrated that for the standard definition of the index α' the Fisher and the Griffiths scaling inequalities are not fulfilled in general case, whereas the Liberman scaling inequality is always obeyed. This is not surprising for the phase diagram with the asymmetric properties of pure phases, but the present model also provides us with the first and explicit example that the specially defined index α'_s does not recover the scaling relations as well. Therefore, here we suggest the physically motivated definition of the index α' = α'_c and demonstrate that such a definition recovers the Fisher scaling inequality, while it is shown that the Griffiths inequality should be generalized for the phase diagram with the asymmetric properties. The critical exponents of several systems that belong to different universality classes are successfully described by the parameters of the present model and hence its equation of state can be used for a variety of practical applications.

Simple Solution to the Strangeness Horn Description Puzzle

We propose to use the thermal model with the multi-component hard-core radii to describe the hadron yield ratios from the low AGS to the highest RHIC energies. It is demonstrated that the variation of the hard-core radii of pions and kaons enable us to drastically improve the fit quality of the measured mid-rapidity data and for the first time to completely describe the Strangeness Horn behavior as the function of the energy of collision without spoiling the fit quality of other ratios. The best global fit is found for the vanishing hard-core radius of pions and for the hard-core radius of kaons being equal to 0.35 fm, whereas the hard-core radius of all other mesons is fixed to 0.3 fm and that one of baryons is fixed to 0.5 fm. It is argued that the multi-component hadron resonance gas model opens us a principal possibility to determine the second virial coefficients of hadron-hadron interaction.

Physical mechanism of the (tri)critical point generation

We discuss some ideas resulting from a phenomenological relation recently declared between the tension of string connecting the static quark-antiquark pair and surface tension of corresponding cylindrical bag. This relation analysis leads to the temperature of vanishing surface tension coefficient of the QGP bags at zero baryonic charge density as T_σ= 152.9 +- 4.5 MeV. We develop the view point that this temperature value is not a fortuitous coincidence with the temperature of (partial) chiral symmetry restoration as seen in the lattice QCD simulations. Besides, we argue that T_σdefines the QCD (tri)critical endpoint temperature and claim that a negative value of surface tension coefficient recently discovered is not a sole result, but should also exist in ordinary liquids at the supercritical temperatures.

Can We Rigorously Define Phases in a Finite System?

Here we propose the generalized statistical multifragmentation model which includes the liquid phase pressure of the most general form. This allows us to get rid of the absolute incompressibility of the nuclear liquid. Also the present model employes a very general form the surface tension coefficient of nuclear fragments. Such a model is solved analytically for finite volumes by the Laplace-Fourier transform method to isobaric ensemble. A complete analysis of the isobaric partition singularities of this model is also done for finite volumes. It is shown that the real part of any simple pole of the isobaric partition defines the free energy of the corresponding state, whereas its imaginary part, depending on the sign, defines the inverse decay/formation time of this state. The developed formalism allows us to exactly define the finite volume analogs of gaseous, liquid and mixed phases of the class of similar models from the first principles of statistical mechanics and demonstrate the pitfalls of earlier works. The finite width effects for large nuclear fragments and quark gluon bags are also discussed.

Thermodynamics of quark quasi-particles ensemble

The features of hot and dense gas of quarks which are considered as the quasi-particles of the model Hamiltonian with four-fermion interaction are studied. Being adapted to the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model this approach allows us to accommodate a phase transition similar to the nuclear liquid-gas one at the proper scale and to argue an existence of the mixed (inhomogeneous) phase of vacuum and normal baryonic matter as a plausible scenario of chiral symmetry (partial) restoration. Analyzing the transition layer between two phases we estimate the surface tension coefficient and speculate on the possible existence of quark droplet.

Asymptotic Regge Trajectories of Non-strange Mesons

We analyze the asymptotic behavior of Regge trajectories of non-strange mesons. In contrast to an existing belief, it is demonstrated that for the asymptotically linear Regge trajectories the width of heavy hadrons cannot linearly depend on their mass. Using the data on masses and widths of rho_J, omega_J, a_J and f_J mesons for the spin values J \leq 6, we extract the parameters of the asymptotically linear Regge trajectory predicted by the finite width model of quark gluon bags. As it is shown the obtained parameters for the data set B correspond to the cross-over temperature lying in the interval 170.9-175.3 MeV which is consistent with the kinetic freeze-out temperature of early hadronizing particles found in relativistic heavy ion collisions at and above the highest SPS energy.

On Relation Between the Quark Gluon Bag Surface Tension and the Colour Tube String Tension

Here we revisit the bag phenomenology of the deconfining phase transition to replenish it by introducing systematically the bag surface tension. Comparing the free energy of such bags and that one of the strings confining the static quark-antiquark pair, we express the string tension in terms of the bag surface tension and thermal pressure in order to estimate the bag characteristics using the lattice QCD data. Our analysis of the bag entropy density demonstrates that the surface tension coefficient is amazingly negative at the cross-over (continuous transition). This approach allows us to naturally account for an appearance of a very pronounced maximum (observed in the lattice QCD simulations) of the entropy of the bound static quark-antiquark pair. The vicinity of the (tri)critical endpoint is also analyzed to clarify the meaning of vanishing surface tension coefficient.

Regge Trajectories of Quark Gluon Bags

Using an exactly solvable statistical model we discuss the equation of state of large/heavy and short-living quark gluon plasma (QGP) bags. We argue that the large width of the QGP bags explains not only the observed deficit in the number of hadronic resonances, but also clarifies the reason why the heavy QGP bags cannot be directly observed even as metastable states in a hadronic phase. Also the Regge trajectories of large and heavy QGP bags are established both in a vacuum and in a strongly interacting medium. It is shown that at high temperatures the average mass and width of the QGP bags behave in accordance with the upper bound of the Regge trajectory asymptotics (the linear asymptotics), whereas for temperatures below T_H/2 (T_H is the Hagedorn temperature) they obey the lower bound of the Regge trajectory asymptotics (the square root one). Thus, for T < T_H/2 the spin of the QGP bags is restricted from above, whereas for T> T_H/2 these bags demonstrate the standard Regge behavior consistent with the string models.

Just one more approach to calculating the QCD ground state

The quark behaviour in the background of intensive stochastic gluon field is studied. An approximate procedure for calculating the effective Hamiltonian is developed and the corresponding ground state within the Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov approach is found. The comparative analysis of various model Hamiltonian is given and transition to the chiral limit in the Keldysh model is discused in detail. We study response to the process of filling up the Fermi sphere with quarks, calculate the vacuum pressure and demonstrate the existence of filled-in state degenerate with the vacuum one.

Exploring meson correlators in the model with four-quark interaction Lagrangian

Meson correlation functions are studied in the model with four-fermion interaction Lagrangian. We demonstrate that despite the singular character of system mean energy and corresponding quark condensate found out the meson observables are finite, quite well identified and compatible with experimental energy scale. It allows one to use the similar model Hamiltonians for describing the nonequilibrium features of quark/hadron systems which reveal themselves in studying ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. The analytical results for meson correlation functions in the Keldysh model are given.

Quark Gluon Bags as Reggeons

The influence of the medium dependent finite width of QGP bags on their equation of state is analyzed within an exactly solvable model. It is argued that the large width of the QGP bags not only explains the observed deficit in the number of hadronic resonances, but also clarifies the reason why the heavy QGP bags cannot be directly observed as metastable states in a hadronic phase. The model allows us to estimate the minimal value of the width of QGP bags from a variety of the lattice QCD data and get that the minimal resonance width at zero temperature is about 600 MeV, whereas the minimal resonance width at the Hagedorn temperature is about 2000 MeV. As shown these estimates are almost insensitive to the number of the elementary degrees of freedom. The recent lattice QCD data are analyzed and it is found that besides sigma T**4 term the lattice QCD pressure contains T-linear and T**4 ln T terms in the range of temperatures between 240 MeV and 420 MeV. The presence of the last term in the pressure bears almost no effect on the width estimates. Our analysis shows that at hight temperatures the average mass and width of the QGP bags behave in accordance with the upper bound of the Regge trajectory asymptotics (the linear asymptotics), whereas at low temperatures they obey the lower bound of the Regge trajectory asymptotics (the square root one). Since the model explicitly contains the Hagedorn mass spectrum, it allows us to remove an existing contradiction between the finite number of hadronic Regge families and the Hagedorn idea of the exponentially growing mass spectrum of hadronic bags.

Exploring an Origin of the QCD Critical Endpoint

We discuss a new way to develop the exactly solvable model of the QCD critical endpoint by matching the deconfinement phase transition line for the system of quark-gluon bags with the line of their vanishing surface tension coefficient. In contrast to all previous findings in such models the deconfined phase is defined not by an essential singularity of the isobaric partition function, but by its simple pole. As a result we find out that the first order deconfinement phase transition which is defined by a discontinuity of the first derivative of system pressure is generated by a discontinuity of the derivative of surface tension coefficient.

Why Don't We See the Hagedorn Mass Spectrum in the Experiments?

The influence of medium dependent finite width of the QGP bags on their equation of state is analyzed on a basis of an exactly solvable model with the general mass-volume spectrum of these bags. It is arguing that the consistent statistical description of the QGP bags is achieved for the width proportional to the square root of their volume. The model allows us to estimate the minimal value of the QGP bags' width from the new lattice QCD data. The large width of the QGP bags not only explains the observed deficit in the number of hadronic resonances compared to the Hagedorn mass spectrum, but also clarifies the reason why the heavy/ large QGP bags cannot be directly observed in experiments as metastable states in a hadronic phase.
