Towards a definition of quantum integrability

We briefly review the most relevant aspects of complete integrability for classical systems and identify those aspects which should be present in a definition of quantum integrability. We show that a naive extension of classical concepts to the quantum framework would not work because all infinite dimensional Hilbert spaces are unitarily isomorphic and, as a consequence, it would not be easy to define degrees of freedom. We argue that a geometrical formulation of quantum mechanics might provide a way out.

Unital Positive Maps and Quantum States

We analyze the structure of the subset of states generated by unital completely positive quantum maps, A witness that certifies that a state does not belong to the subset generated by a given map is constructed. We analyse the representations of positive maps and their relation to quantum Perron-Frobenius theory.

Classical tensors from quantum states

The embedding of a manifold M into a Hilbert-space H induces, via the pull-back, a tensor field on M out of the Hermitian tensor on H. We propose a general procedure to compute these tensors in particular for manifolds admitting a Lie-group structure.

Symplectic tomography of ultracold gases in tight-waveguides

The phase space is the natural ground to smoothly extrapolate between local and non-local correlation functions. With this objective, we introduce the symplectic tomography of many-body quantum gases in tight-waveguides, and concentrate on the reduced single-particle symplectic tomogram (RSPST) whose marginals are the density profile and momentum distribution. We present an operational approach to measure the RSPST from the time evolution of the density profile after shutting off the interactions in a variety of relevant situations: free expansion, fall under gravity, and oscillations in a harmonic trap. From the RSPST, the one-body density matrix of the trapped state can be reconstructed.

Semigroup of positive maps for qudit states and entanglement in tomographic probability representation

Stochastic and bistochastic matrices providing positive maps for spin states (for qudits) are shown to form semigroups with dense intersection with the Lie groups $IGL(n, \mathbb{R})$ and $GL(n, \mathbb{R})$ respectively. The density matrix of a qudit state is shown to be described by a spin tomogram determined by an orbit of the bistochastic semigroup acting on a simplex. A class of positive maps acting transitively on quantum states is introduced by relating stochastic and quantum stochastic maps in the tomographic setting. Finally, the entangled states of two qubits and Bell inequalities are given in the framework of the tomographic probability representation using the stochastic semigroup properties.

Basics of Quantum Mechanics, Geometrization and some Applications to Quantum Information

In this paper we present a survey of the use of differential geometric formalisms to describe Quantum Mechanics. We analyze Schrödinger framework from this perspective and provide a description of the Weyl-Wigner construction. Finally, after reviewing the basics of the geometric formulation of quantum mechanics, we apply the methods presented to the most interesting cases of finite dimensional Hilbert spaces: those of two, three and four level systems (one qubit, one qutrit and two qubit systems). As a more practical application, we discuss the advantages that the geometric formulation of quantum mechanics can provide us with in the study of situations as the functional independence of entanglement witnesses.

A symplectic realization of the Volterra lattice

We examine the multiple Hamiltonian structure and construct a symplectic realization of the Volterra model. We rediscover the hierarchy of invariants, Poisson brackets and master symmetries via the use of a recursion operator. The rational Volterra bracket is obtained using a negative recursion operator.

Frame transforms, star products and quantum mechanics on phase space

Using the notions of frame transform and of square integrable projective representation of a locally compact group $G$, we introduce a class of isometries (tight frame transforms) from the space of Hilbert-Schmidt operators in the carrier Hilbert space of the representation into the space of square integrable functions on the direct product group $G\times G$. These transforms have remarkable properties. In particular, their ranges are reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces endowed with a suitable 'star product' which mimics, at the level of functions, the original product of operators. A 'phase space formulation' of quantum mechanics relying on the frame transforms introduced in the present paper, and the link of these maps with both the Wigner transform and the wavelet transform are discussed.

Tomographic Representation of Minisuperspace Quantum Cosmology and Noether Symmetries

The probability representation, in which cosmological quantum states are described by a standard positive probability distribution, is constructed for minisuperspace models selected by Noether symmetries. In such a case, the tomographic probability distribution provides the classical evolution for the models and can be considered an approach to select "observable" universes. Some specific examples, derived from Extended Theories of Gravity, are worked out. We discuss also how to connect tomograms, symmetries and cosmological parameters.

Generalized tomographic maps

We introduce several possible generalizations of tomography for quadratic surfaces. We analyze different types of elliptic, hyperbolic and hybrid tomograms. In all cases it is possible to consistently define the inverse tomographic map. We find two different ways of introducing tomographic sections. The first method operates by deformations of the standard Radon transform. The second method proceeds by shifting a given quadric pattern. The most general tomographic transformation can be defined in terms of marginals over surfaces generated by deformations of complete families of hyperplanes or quadrics. We discuss practical and conceptual perspectives and possible applications.

f-oscillators deformation for Moyal algebras

Using general construction of star-product the q-deformed Wigner-Weyl-Moyal quantization procedure is elaborated. The q-deformed Groenewold kernel determining the product of quantum observables is given in explicit form for small nonlinearities corresponding to nonlinear vibrations of classical and quantum q-oscillators. The deformations of Groenewold kernel related to general kinds of nonlinear vibrations described by f-oscillators are considered.

Qubit-portraits of qudit states and quantum correlations

The machinery of qubit-portraits of qudit states, recently presented, is consider here in more details in order to characterize the presence of quantum correlations in bipartite qudit states. In the tomographic representation of quantum mechanics, Bell-like inequalities are interpreted as peculiar properties of a family of classical joint probability distributions which describe the quantum state of two qudits. By means of the qubit-portraits machinery a semigroup of stochastic matrices can be associated to a given quantum state. The violation of the CHSH inequalities is discussed in this framework with some examples, we found that quantum correlations in qutrit isotropic states can be detected by the suggested method while it cannot in the case of qutrit Werner states.

Reduction Procedures in Classical and Quantum Mechanics

We present, in a pedagogical style, many instances of reduction procedures appearing in a variety of physical situations, both classical and quantum. We concentrate on the essential aspects of any reduction procedure, both in the algebraic and geometrical setting, elucidating the analogies and the differences between the classical and the quantum situations.

Isoperiodic classical systems and their quantum counterparts

One-dimensional isoperiodic classical systems have been first analyzed by Abel. Abel's characterization can be extended for singular potentials and potentials which are not defined on the whole real line. The standard shear equivalence of isoperiodic potentials can also be extended by using reflection and inversion transformations. We provide a full characterization of isoperiodic rational potentials showing that they are connected by translations, reflections or Joukowski transformations. Upon quantization many of these isoperiodic systems fail to exhibit identical quantum energy spectra. This anomaly occurs at order O(h^2) because semiclassical corrections of energy levels of order O(h) are identical for all isoperiodic systems. We analyze families of systems where this quantum anomaly occurs and some special systems where the spectral identity is preserved by quantization. Conversely, we point out the existence of isospectral quantum systems which do not correspond to isoperiodic classical systems.

The space of density states in geometrical quantum mechanics

We present a geometrical description of the space of density states of a quantum system of finite dimension. After presenting a brief summary of the geometrical formulation of Quantum Mechanics, we proceed to describe the space of density states $\D(\Hil)$ from a geometrical perspective identifying the stratification associated to the natural $GL(\Hil)$--action on $\D(\Hil)$ and some of its properties. We apply this construction to the cases of quantum systems of two and three levels.

Introduction to Quantum Mechanics and the Quantum-Classical transition

In this paper we present a survey of the use of differential geometric formalisms to describe Quantum Mechanics. We analyze Schroedinger and Heisenberg frameworks from this perspective and discuss how the momentum map associated to the action of the unitary group on the Hilbert space allows to relate both approaches. We also study Weyl-Wigner approach to Quantum Mechanics and discuss the implications of bi-Hamiltonian structures at the quantum level.
