Purification of impure density operators and the recovery of entanglements

The need to retain the relative phases in quantum mechanics implies an addition law parametrized by a phase of two density operators required for the purification of a density matrix. This is shown with quantum tomography and the Wigner function. Entanglement is determined in terms of phase dependent multiplication.

Slott-Agape Project

SLOTT-AGAPE (Systematic Lensing Observation at Toppo Telescope - Andromeda Gravitational Amplification Pixel Lensing Experiment) is a new collaboration project among international partners from England, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland that intends to perform microlensing observation by using M31 as target. The MACHOs search is made thanks to the pixel lensing technique.

Higher-Order Quantization on a Lie Group

In this paper we are mainly concerned with the study of polarizations (in general of higher-order type) on a connected Lie group with a U(1)-principal bundle structure. The representation technique used here is formulated on the basis of a group quantization formalism previously introduced which generalizes the Kostant-Kirillov co-adjoint orbits method for connected Lie groups and the Borel-Weyl-Bott representation algorithm for semisimple groups. We illustrate the fundamentals of the group approach with the help of some examples like the abelian group $R^k$ and the semisimple group SU(2), and the use of higher-order polarizations with the harmonic oscillator group and the Schrödinger group, the last one constituting the simplest example of an anomalous group. Also, examples of infinite-dimensional anomalous groups are briefly considered.

Higher-Order Differential Operators on a Lie Group and Quantization

This talk is devoted mainly to the concept of higher-order polarization on a group, which is introduced in the framework of a Group Approach to Quantization, as a powerful tool to guarantee the irreducibility of quantizations and/or representations of Lie groups in those anomalous cases where the Kostant-Kirilov co-adjoint method or the Borel-Weyl-Bott representation algorithm do not succeed.

The nonlinear superposition principle and the Wei-Norman method

Group theoretical methods are used to study some properties of the Riccati equation, which is the only differential equation admitting a nonlinear superposition principle. The Wei-Norman method is applied to obtain the associated differential equation in the group $SL(2,R)$. The superposition principle for first order differential equation systems and Lie-Scheffers theorem are also analysed from this group theoretical perspective. Finally, the theory is applied in the solution of second order differential equations like time-independent Schroedinger equation

Poisson structures on double Lie groups

Lie bialgebra structures are reviewed and investigated in terms of the double Lie algebra, of Manin- and Gauß-decompositions. The standard R-matrix in a Manin decomposition then gives rise to several Poisson structures on the correponding double group, which is investigated in great detail.

Cosmological waveguides for gravitational waves

We study the linearized equations describing the propagation of gravitational waves through dust. In the leading order of the WKB approximation, dust behaves as a non-dispersive, non-dissipative medium. Taking advantage of these features, we explore the possibility that a gravitational wave from a distant source gets trapped by the gravitational field of a long filament of galaxies of the kind seen in the large scale structure of the Universe. Such a waveguiding effect may lead to a huge magnification of the radiation from distant sources, thus lowering the sensitivity required for a successful detection of gravitational waves by detectors like VIRGO, LIGO and LISA.

The local structure of n-Poisson and n-Jacobi manifolds

N-Lie algebra structures on smooth function algebras given by means of multi-differential operators, are studied. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the sum and the wedge product of two $n$-Poisson sructures to be again a multi-Poisson are found. It is proven that the canonical $n$-vector on the dual of an n-Lie algebra g is n-Poisson iff dim(g) are not greater than n+1. The problem of compatibility of two n-Lie algebra structures is analyzed and the compatibility relations connecting hereditary structures of a given n-Lie algebra are obtained. (n+1)-dimensional n-Lie algebras are classified and their "elementary particle-like" structure is discovered. Some simple applications to dynamics are discussed.

Deformations and Nonlinear Systems

The q-deformation of harmonic oscillators is shown to lead to q-nonlinear vibrations. The examples of q-nonlinearized wave equation and Schrödinger equation are considered. The procedure is generalized to broader class of nonlinearities related to other types of deformations. The nonlinear noncanonical transforms used in the deformation procedure are shown to preserve in some cases the linear dynamical equations, for instance, for the harmonic oscillators. The nonlinear coherent states and some physical aspects of the deformations are reviewed.

f-Oscillators and Nonlinear Coherent States

The notion of f-oscillators generalizing q-oscillators is introduced. For classical and quantum cases, an interpretation of the f-oscillator is provided as corresponding to a special nonlinearity of vibration for which the frequency of oscillation depends on the energy. The f-coherent states (nonlinear coherent states) generalizing q-coherent states are constructed. Applied to quantum optics, photon distribution function, photon number means, and dispersions are calculated for the f-coherent states as well as the Wigner function and Q-function. As an example, it is shown how this nonlinearity may affect the Planck distribution formula.

Symplectic Structures and Quantum Mechanics

Canonical coordinates for the Schrödinger equation are introduced, making more transparent its Hamiltonian structure. It is shown that the Schrödinger equation, considered as a classical field theory, shares with Liouville completely integrable field theories the existence of a {\sl recursion operator} which allows for the infinitely many conserved functionals pairwise commuting with respect to the corresponding Poisson bracket. The approach may provide a good starting point to get a clear interpretation of Quantum Mechanics in the general setting, provided by Stone-von Neumann theorem, of Symplectic Mechanics. It may give new tools to solve in the general case the inverse problem of quantum mechanics whose solution is given up to now only for one-dimensional systems by the Gel'fand-Levitan-Marchenko formula.

TOPOLOGY CHANGE AND QUANTUM PHYSICS

The role of topology in elementary quantum physics is discussed in detail. It is argued that attributes of classical spatial topology emerge from properties of state vectors with suitably smooth time evolution. Equivalently, they emerge from considerations on the domain of the quantum Hamiltonian, this domain being often specified by boundary conditions in elementary quantum physics. Several examples are presented where classical topology is changed by smoothly altering the boundary conditions. When the parameters labelling the latter are treated as quantum variables, quantum states need not give a well-defined classical topology, instead they can give a quantum superposition of such topologies. An existing argument of Sorkin based on the spin-statistics connection and indicating the necessity of topology change in quantum gravity is recalled. It is suggested therefrom and our results here that Einstein gravity and its minor variants are effective theories of a deeper description with additional novel degrees of freedom. Other reasons for suspecting such a microstructure are also summarized.

Poisson Lie Group Symmetries for the Isotropic Rotator

We find a new Hamiltonian formulation of the classical isotropic rotator where left and right $SU(2)$ transformations are not canonical symmetries but rather Poisson Lie group symmetries. The system corresponds to the classical analog of a quantum mechanical rotator which possesses quantum group symmetries. We also examine systems of two classical interacting rotators having Poisson Lie group symmetries.
