h γγCoupling in Higgs Triplet Model

We investigate Higgs boson decay into two photons in the type-II seesaw model. The rate of $h\to γγ$ gets suppressed/enhanced in this model compared to the Standard Model (SM) due to the presence of the singly and doubly charged Higgs $H^\pm$ and $H^{\pm\pm}$.

Higgs boson decay into 2 photons in the type~II Seesaw Model

We study the two photon decay channel of the Standard Model-like component of the CP-even Higgs bosons present in the type II Seesaw Model. The corresponding cross-section is found to be significantly enhanced in parts of the parameter space, due to the (doubly-)charged Higgs bosons' $(H^{\pm \pm})H^\pm$ virtual contributions, while all the other Higgs decay channels remain Standard Model(SM)-like. In other parts of the parameter space $H^{\pm \pm}$ (and $H^{\pm}$) interfere destructively, reducing the two photon branching ratio tremendously below the SM prediction. Such properties allow to account for any excess such as the one reported by ATLAS/CMS at $\approx 125$ GeV if confirmed by future data; if not, for the fact that a SM-like Higgs exclusion in the diphoton channel around 114-115 GeV as reported by ATLAS, does not contradict a SM-like Higgs at LEP(!), and at any rate, for the fact that ATLAS/CMS exclusion limits put stringent lower bounds on the $H^{\pm \pm}$ mass, particularly in the parameter space regions where the direct limits from same-sign leptonic decays of $H^{\pm \pm}$ do not apply.

The Higgs Potential in the Type II Seesaw Model

We perform in the type II seesaw setting, a detailed study of the dynamical features of the corresponding general renormalizable doublet/triplet Higgs potential that depends on five dimensionless couplings and two mass parameters after spontaneous symmetry breaking, and highlight the implications for the Higgs phenomenology. In particular, we determine i) the complete set of tree-level unitarity constraints on the couplings of the potential and ii) the exact tree-level {\sl all directions} boundedness from below constraints on these couplings. When combined, these constraints delineate precisely the theoretically allowed parameter space domain within our perturbative approximation. Among the seven physical Higgs states of this model, the mass of the lighter (heavier) CP-even state h0 (H0) will always satisfy a theoretical upper (lower) bound that is reached for a critical value mu_c of mu (the mass parameter controlling triple couplings among the doublet/triplet Higgses). Saturating the unitarity bounds we find m_h0 < {\cal O}(0.7 - 1 TeV), while the upper bound for the remaining Higgses lies in the several tens of TeV. However, the actual masses can be much lighter. We identify two regimes corresponding to mu > mu_c and mu < mu_c. In the first regime the Higgs sector is typically very heavy and only h0 that becomes SM-like could be accessible to the LHC. In contrast, in the second regime, somewhat overlooked in the literature, most of the Higgs sector is light. In particular the heaviest state H0 becomes SM-like, the lighter states being the CP-odd Higgs, the (doubly) charged Higgses and a decoupled h0, possibly leading to a distinctive phenomenology at the colliders.

Complementarity of Gamma-ray and LHC Searches for Neutralino Dark Matter in the Focus Point Region

We study the complementarity between the indirect detection of dark matter with gamma-rays in H.E.S.S. and the supersymmetry searches with ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider in the Focus Point region within the mSUGRA framework. The sensitivity of the central telescope of the H.E.S.S. II experiment with an energy threshold of ~ 20 GeV is investigated. We show that the detection of gamma-ray fluxes of O(10^-12) cm-2s-1 with H.E.S.S. II covers a substantial part of the Focus Point region which may be more difficult for LHC experiments. Despite the presence of multi-TeV scalars, we show that LHC will be sensitive to a complementary part of this region through three body NLSP leptonic decays. This interesting complementarity between H.E.S.S. II and LHC searches is further highlighted in terms of the gluino mass and the two lightest neutralino mass difference.

An indirect dark matter search with diffuse gamma rays from the Galactic Centre with the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer

The detection of non-baryonic dark matter through its gamma-ray annihilation in the centre of our galaxy has been studied. The gamma fluxes according to different models have been simulated and compared to those expected to be observed with the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS), during a long-term mission on board of the International Space Station. Under the assumption that the dark matter halo is composed of the lightest, stable supersymmetric particle, the neutralino, the results of the simulations in the framework of mSUGRA models, show that with a cuspy dark matter halo or a clumpy halo, the annihilation gamma-ray signal would be detected by AMS. More optimistic perspectives are obtained with the Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking (AMSB) model. The latter leads also to a cosmologically important 6Li abundance. Finally, the discovery potential for the massive Kaluza-Klein dark matter candidates has been evaluated and their detection looks feasible.

Supersymmetry Parameter Analysis: SPA Convention and Project

High-precision analyses of supersymmetry parameters aim at reconstructing the fundamental supersymmetric theory and its breaking mechanism. A well defined theoretical framework is needed when higher-order corrections are included. We propose such a scheme, Supersymmetry Parameter Analysis SPA, based on a consistent set of conventions and input parameters. A repository for computer programs is provided which connect parameters in different schemes and relate the Lagrangian parameters to physical observables at LHC and high energy e+e- linear collider experiments, i.e., masses, mixings, decay widths and production cross sections for supersymmetric particles. In addition, programs for calculating high-precision low energy observables, the density of cold dark matter (CDM) in the universe as well as the cross sections for CDM search experiments are included. The SPA scheme still requires extended efforts on both the theoretical and experimental side before data can be evaluated in the future at the level of the desired precision. We take here an initial step of testing the SPA scheme by applying the techniques involved to a specific supersymmetry reference point.

Cubic supersymmetry and abelian gauge invariance

On the basis of recent results extending non-trivially the Poincaré symmetry, we investigate the properties of bosonic multiplets including $2-$form gauge fields. Invariant free Lagrangians are explicitly built which involve possibly $3-$ and $4-$form fields. We also study in detail the interplay between this symmetry and a U(1) gauge symmetry, and in particular the implications of the automatic gauge-fixing of the latter associated to a residual gauge invariance, as well as the absence of self-interaction terms.

Non-trivial extension of the Poincaré algebra for antisymmetric gauge fields

We investigate a non-trivial extension of the $D-$dimensional Poincaré algebra. Matrix representations are obtained. The bosonic multiplets contain antisymmetric tensor fields. It turns out that this symmetry acts in a natural geometric way on these $p-$forms. Some field theoretical aspects of this symmetry are studied and invariant Lagrangians are explicitly given.

The flavor distribution of Cosmic Neutrinos

Simple approximate expressions for the relative flavor fluxes of energetic cosmic neutrinos detected on Earth, are presented in terms of their initial fluxes at the surface of the producing cosmic sites, assuming the neutrino mixing angles to lie in the experimentally favored region. These expressions highlight the main sensitivities to the initial production fluxes as well as to small variations of the mixing angles within the experimentally preferred region, thus providing simple methods to disentangle these physical quantities from cosmic neutrino data. This is more so, due to some striking mathematical properties of the relative neutrino flavors at $(s_{23}=1/\sqrt{2}, s_{13}=0)$, which somehow characterize the whole experimentally preferred region. We also assess the quality of our approximate expressions through a numerical comparison with the exact results.

Field Theoretic Realizations for Cubic Supersymmetry

We consider a four dimensional space-time symmetry which is a non trivial extension of the Poincaré algebra, different from supersymmetry and not contradicting {\sl a priori} the well-known no-go theorems. We investigate some field theoretical aspects of this new symmetry and construct invariant actions for non-interacting fermion and non-interacting boson multiplets. In the case of the bosonic multiplet, where two-form fields appear naturally, we find that this symmetry is compatible with a local U(1) gauge symmetry, only when the latter is gauge fixed by a `t Hooft-Feynman term.

Detecting supersymmetric dark matter in M31 with CELESTE ?

It is widely believed that dark matter exists within galaxies and clusters of galaxies. Under the assumption that this dark matter is composed of the lightest, stable supersymmetric particle, assumed to be the neutralino, the feasibility of its indirect detection via observations of a diffuse gamma-ray signal due to neutralino annihilation within M31 is examined.

Supersymmetric dark matter in M31: can one see neutralino annihilation with CELESTE?

It is widely believed that dark matter exists within galaxies and clusters of galaxies. Under the assumption that this dark matter is composed of the lightest, stable supersymmetric particle, assumed to be the neutralino, the feasibility of its indirect detection via observations of a diffuse gamma-ray signal due to neutralino annihilations within M31 is examined. To this end, first the dark matter halo of the close spiral galaxy M31 is modeled from observations, then the resultant gamma-ray flux is estimated within supersymmetric model configurations. We conclude that under favorable conditions such as the rapid accretion of neutralinos on the central black hole in M31 and/or the presence of many clumps inside its halo with $r^{-3/2}$ inner profiles, a neutralino annihilation gamma-ray signal is marginally detectable by the ongoing collaboration CELESTE.

High energy photon flux prediction from neutralino annihilation in the globular cluster Palomar 13

The distant globular cluster Palomar 13 has been found to have a very high mass-to-light ratio and its profile can be well fitted either by a King model with a tail, or with a NFW model. This cluster may be the first case of the many clumps predicted by CDM simulations that would not be disrupted by the galactic halo potential. We make the hypothesis that Pal 13 is made of neutralinos and run the DarkSuspect code to estimate the high-energy photon flux due to the annihilation of neutralinos through various channels in some benchmark scenarios. These low fluxes may be used as targets to be reached in proposals for future ground-based high altitude Cerenkov telescopes.

Infrared Quasi Fixed Point Structure in Extended Yukawa Sectors and Application to R-parity Violation

We investigate one-loop renormalization group evolutions of extended sectors of Yukawa type couplings. It is shown that Landau Poles which usually provide necessary low energy upper bounds that saturate quickly with increasing initial value conditions, lead in some cases to the opposite behaviour: some of the low energy couplings decrease and become vanishingly small for increasingly large initial conditions. We write down the general criteria for this to happen in typical situations, highlighting a concept of {\sl repulsive} quasi-fixed points, and illustrate the case both within a two-Yukawa toy model as well as in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with R-parity violation. In the latter case we consider the theoretical upper bounds on the various couplings, identifying regimes where $λ_{kl3}, λ'_{kkk}, λ''_{3kl}$ are dynamically suppressed due to the Landau Pole. We stress the importance of considering a large number of couplings simultaneously. This leads altogether to a phenomenologically interesting seesaw effect in the magnitudes of the various R-parity violating couplings, complementing and in some cases improving the existing limits.
