WKB quantization of reggeon compound states in high-energy QCD

We study the spectrum of the reggeized gluon compound states in high-energy QCD. The energy of the states depends on the total set of quantum numbers whose values are constrained by the quantization conditions. To establish their explicit form we apply the methods of nonlinear WKB analysis to the Schrödinger equation for the $N$ reggeon state in the separated coordinates. We solve the quantization conditions for the N=3 reggeon states in the leading order of the WKB expansion and observe a good agreement of the obtained spectrum of quantum numbers with available exact solutions.

Conformal bootstrap for the BFKL Pomeron

We calculate the interaction vertex of three BFKL states including the bare triple BFKL Pomeron coupling and discuss its relation with the correlation functions in two-dimensional conformal field theory. We construct the operator algebra of the fields interpolating the BFKL states and show that in the multi-color limit the vertex satisfies the constraints imposed by the conformal bootstrap on the structure constants of the operator product expansion in conformal field theory.

Solitons in high-energy QCD

We study the asymptotic solutions of the Schrödinger equation for the color-singlet reggeon compound states in multi-color QCD. We show that in the leading order of asymptotic expansion, quasiclassical reggeon trajectories have a form of the soliton waves propagating on the 2-dimensional plane of transverse coordinates. Applying methods of the finite-gap theory we construct their explicit form in terms of Riemann theta-functions and examine their properties.

Integrable structures and duality in high-energy QCD

We study the properties of color-singlet Reggeon compound states in multicolor high-energy QCD in four dimensions. Their spectrum is governed by completely integrable (1+1)-dimensional effective QCD Hamiltonian whose diagonalization within the Bethe Ansatz leads to the Baxter equation for the Heisenberg spin magnet. We show that nonlinear WKB solution of the Baxter equation gives rise to the same integrable structures as appeared in the Seiberg-Witten solution for $N=2$ SUSY QCD and in the finite-gap solutions of the soliton equations. We explain the origin of hyperelliptic Riemann surfaces out of QCD in the Regge limit and discuss the meaning of the Whitham dynamics on the moduli space of quantum numbers of the Reggeon compound states, QCD Pomerons and Odderons.

Evolution equation for gluon Regge trajectory

Analysing the asymptotic behaviour of the quark-quark elastic scattering amplitude at high energy and fixed transferred momentum and assuming that gluon is reggeized, we obtain the evolution equation for the gluon Regge trajectory in QCD. It is closely related to the renormalization properties of the Wilson lines and it is in a complete agreement with the recent results of two-loop calculations.

Quasiclassical QCD Pomeron

The Regge behaviour of the scattering amplitudes in perturbative QCD is governed in the generalized leading logarithmic approximation by the contribution of the color--singlet compound states of Reggeized gluons. The interaction between Reggeons is described by the effective hamiltonian, which in the multi--color limit turns out to be identical to the hamiltonian of the completely integrable one--dimensional XXX Heisenberg magnet of noncompact spin $s=0$. The spectrum of the color singlet Reggeon compound states - perturbative Pomerons and Odderons, is expressed by means of the Bethe Ansatz in terms of the fundamental $Q-$function, which satisfies the Baxter equation for the XXX Heisenberg magnet. The exact solution of the Baxter equation is known only in the simplest case of the compound state of two Reggeons, the BFKL Pomeron. For higher Reggeon states the method is developed which allows to find its general solution as an asymptotic series in powers of the inverse conformal weight of the Reggeon states. The quantization conditions for the conserved charges for interacting Reggeons are established and an agreement with the results of numerical solutions is observed. The asymptotic approximation of the energy of the Reggeon states is defined based on the properties of the asymptotic series, and the intercept of the three--Reggeon states, perturbative Odderon, is estimated.

Universality of infrared renormalons in hadronic cross sections

We discuss the role of infrared renormalons in power corrections to hadronic cross sections, including their universality. We show how perturbative renormalon structure arises near kinematic boundaries in the thrust distribution, the Drell-Yan cross section and radiative B decays. The leading infrared renormalon in each case is associated with jet evolution. Demanding that the combination of perturbative and nonperturbative contributions be well-defined, we infer the form of the leading power corrections to each cross section. This is at the level $1/Q$ for the thrust distribution and Drell-Yan process, and $1/m^2$ for B decay. We discuss the universality of $1/Q$ corrections between Drell-Yan and thrust, and conclude that it is approximate, due to contributions from multijet configurations that may differ in the two cases.

Bethe Ansatz for QCD Pomeron,

The equivalence is found between high-energy QCD in the generalized leading logarithmic approximation and the one-dimensional Heisenberg magnet. According to Regge theory, the high energy asymptotics of hadronic scattering amplitudes are related to singularities of partial waves in the complex angular momentum plane. In QCD, the partial waves are determined by nontrivial two-dimensional dynamics of the transverse gluonic degrees of freedom. The "bare" gluons interact with each other to form a collective excitation, the Reggeon. The partial waves of the scattering amplitude satisfy the Bethe-Salpeter equation whose solutions describe the color singlet compound states of Reggeons -- Pomeron, Odderon and higher Reggeon states. We show that the QCD Hamiltonian for reggeized gluons coincides in the multi-color limit with the Hamiltonian of XXX Heisenberg magnet for spin s=0 and spin operators the generators of the conformal SL(2,C) group. As a result, the Schrodinger equation for the compound states of Reggeons has a sufficient number of conservation laws to be completely integrable. A generalized Bethe ansatz is developed for the diagonalization of the QCD Hamiltonian and for the calculation of hadron-hadron scattering. Using the Bethe Ansatz solution of high-energy QCD we investigate the properties of the Reggeon compound states which govern the Regge behavior of the total hadron-hadron cross sections and the small-x behavior of the structure functions of deep inelastic scattering.

Renormalized sum rules for structure functions of heavy mesons decays

We consider properties of the structure functions of inclusive heavy meson decays $B\to X_c$ and treat the $c$ quark mass as a free parameter. We show that in two extreme cases of heavy and light $c$ quark the structure functions of heavy--heavy and heavy--light transitions are given by a Fourier transform of the matrix elements of Wilson lines containing a time--like and a light--like segment, correspondingly. Using the renormalization properties of Wilson lines we find the dependence of the structure functions on the factorization scale, the structure function of heavy--heavy transition is renormalized multiplicatively while that of heavy-light transition obeys the GLAP--type evolution equation. We propose a generalization of the sum rules for the moments of the structure functions (Bjorken, Voloshin, and the ``third'' sum rules) with a soft exponential factorization cut--off, which correctly incorporates both perturbative and nonperturbative effects. We analyze nonperturbative corrections by first considering infrared renormalon contributions to the Wilson lines. Uncertainties induced by the leading renormalon pole at $u=\frac12$ are exactly cancelled by the similar uncertainty in the heavy quark pole mass. The leading nonperturbative corrections associated with the next renormalon at $u=1$ are parameterized by the matrix element $μ_π^2$ which is proportional to the heavy quark kinetic energy.

Nonperturbative Corrections in Resummed Cross Sections

We show that the resummation of large perturbative corrections in QCD leads to ambiguities in high energy cross sections that are suppressed by powers of large momentum scales. These ambiguities are caused by infrared renormalons, which are a general feature of resummed hard-scattering functions in perturbative QCD, even though these functions are infrared safe order-by-order in perturbation theory. As in the case of the operator product expansion, the contributions of infrared renormalons to coefficient functions may be absorbed into the definition of higher-dimensional operators, which induce nonperturbative corrections that are power-suppressed at high energies. The strength of the suppression is determined by the location of the dominant infrared renormalon, which may be identified explicitly in the resummed series. In contrast to the operator product expansion, however, the relevant operators in factorized hadron-hadron scattering and jet cross sections are generally nonlocal in QCD, although they may be expressed as local operators in an effective theory for eikonalized quarks. In this context, we verify and interpret the presence of $1/Q$ corrections to the inclusive Drell-Yan cross section with $Q$ the pair mass. In a similar manner, we find $\exp(-b^2\ln Q)$ corrections in the impact parameter space of the transverse momentum distributions of the Drell-Yan process and $e^+e^-$ annihilation. We also show that the dominant nonperturbative corrections to cone-based jet cross sections behave as $1/(Qδ)$, with $δ$ the opening angle of the jet and $Q$ the center of mass energy.

High energy scattering in QCD and cross singularities of Wilson loops

We consider elastic quark-quark scattering at high energy and fixed transferred momentum. Performing factorization of soft gluon exchanges into Wilson line expectation value we find that there is one-to-one correspondence between high energy asymptotics in QCD and renormalization properties of the so called cross singularities of Wilson lines. Using this relation we show that the asymptotic behavior of the quark-quark scattering amplitude is controlled by a $2\times 2$ matrix of the cross anomalous dimensions. We evaluate the matrix of cross anomalous dimension to two-loop order and study the properties of the obtained expressions to higher loop order.

Infrared factorization in inclusive B meson decays

We perform infrared factorization of differential rates of radiative and semileptonic inclusive decays of the B meson in the end-point region of photon and charged lepton spectrum, respectively, in the leading heavy quark mass limit. We find that the differential rates are expressed in terms of hard, jet and soft functions, which satisfy evolution equations. Solving these equations, we find expressions for the moments of the differential rates in their end-point regions, which take into account all leading and nonleading logarithmic corrections in perturbation theory, as well as large nonperturbative power corrections. Expanded to the one-loop level, our predictions coincide with the results of existing lowest order calculations for B->γX_s and B->l\barnu X_u. Nonperturbative corrections appear in our formalism from the boundary value of the soft function in the evolution equation. The soft function is a universal process-independent function, which describes the distribution of the b quark in the B meson. Its behavior in the end-point region is governed by the nonperturbative asymptotics of a Wilson line expectation value. By considering the contributions of infrared renormalons, we find an ansatz for the Wilson line, which leads to a Gaussian model for the heavy quark distribution function.

High energy QCD as a completely integrable model

We show that the one-dimensional lattice model proposed by Lipatov to describe the high energy scattering of hadrons in multicolor QCD is completely integrable. We identify this model as the XXX Heisenberg chain of noncompact spin $s=0$ and find the conservation laws of the model. A generalized Bethe ansatz is developed for the diagonalization of the hamiltonian and for the calculation of hadron-hadron scattering amplitude.

On near forward high energy scattering in QCD

We consider elastic quark-quark scattering at high energy and fixed transferred momentum. Performing factorization of soft gluon exchanges into Wilson lines vacuum expectation values and studying their properties, we find that the asymptotics of the scattering amplitude is controlled by the renormalization properties of the so called cross singularities of Wilson loops. Using this fact, we evaluate the scattering amplitude and show that its asymptotics is determined by the properties of the $2\times 2$ matrix of anomalous dimensions which appears after one renormalizes the cross singularities of Wilson loops. A generalization to the case of quark-antiquark and gluon-gluon elastic scattering is discussed.

Gauge Invariance and Anomalous Dimensions of a Light-Cone Wilson Loop in Light-Like Axial Gauge

Complete two-loop calculation of a dimensionally regularized Wilson loop with light-like segments is performed in the light-like axial gauge with the Mandelstam-Leibbrandt prescription for the gluon propagator. We find an expression which {\it exactly} coincides with the one previously obtained for the same Wilson loop in covariant Feynman gauge. The renormalization of Wilson loop is performed in the $\MS-$scheme using a general procedure tailored to the light-like axial gauge. We find that the renormalized Wilson loop obeys a renormalization group equation with the same anomalous dimensions as in covariant gauges. Physical implications of our result for investigation of infrared asymptotics of perturbative QCD are pointed out.
