Non-extensive equilibration in relativistic matter

We present a view of the non-extensive thermodynamics based on general composition rules. A formal logarithm maps these rules to the addition, which can be used to generate stationary distributions by standard techniques. We review the most commonly used rules and as an application we discuss the Tsallis-Pareto distribution of transverse momenta of energetic hadrons, which emerge from relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Numerical simulation of non-extensive Boltzmann equation

We present first results of the development of a test particle simulation for solving non-extensive extensions of the elastic two-particle Boltzmann equation. Stationary one-particle energy distributions with power-law tail are obtained.

Power-law tailed spectra from equilibrium

We propose that power-law tailed hadron spectra may be viewed as stemming from a matter in an unconventional equilibrium state typical for non-extensive thermodynamics. A non-extensive Boltzmann equation, which is able to form such spectra as a stationary solution, is utilized as a rough model of quark matter hadronization. Basic ideas about non-extensive simulation of the QCD equation of state on the lattice are presented.

Non-extensive Boltzmann Equation and Hadronization

For a general, associative addition rule defining a non-extensive thermodynamics we construct the strict monotonic function, which transforms it to an additive quantity. We investigate the evolution of one-particle distributions in the framework of a two-body Boltzmann equation supported with a non-extensive energy addition rule. In particular we study the emergence of a Tsallis distribution as a stationary solution. We propose that for describing the hadronization of quark matter non-extensive rules may apply.

Non-Gibbs Particle Spectra from Thermal Equilibrium

We propose that transverse momentum spectra with power-law tails observed in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions can be interpreted as originating in a medium in thermal equilibrium. General conditions on the dynamical equations are formulated, leading in equilibrium to various energy distributions of particles. Starting with the linear Fokker-Planck equation we analyze conditions for Boltzmann-Gibbs, Tsallis, or other equilibrium distributions based upon the dependence of fluctuation and dissipation on the energy of the observed subsystem. RHIC neutral pion data definitely exclude Boltzmann-Gibbs distribution over the entire range of observed transverse momenta.

What is the temperature in heavy ion collisions?

We consider the Tsallis distribution as the source of the apparent slope of one-particle spectra in heavy-ion collisions and investigate the equation of state of this special quark matter in the framework of non-extensive thermodynamics.

A Non-Extensive Model for Quark Matter Produced in Heavy Ion Collisions

We describe quark matter in the framework of non-extensive thermodynamics. We point out that partcile spectra with power-law tail lead to an increased energy and entropy per particle. This way even a massless plasma may give E/N = 1 GeV at T = 175 MeV temperature, alike thermal hadronic fits to RHIC experiment. In this case E/NT = 6 instead of 3.
