Dynamics of Entanglement Transfer Through Multipartite Dissipative Systems

We study the dynamics of entanglement transfer in a system composed of two initially correlated three-level atoms, each located in a cavity interacting with its own reservoir. Instead of tracing out reservoir modes to describe the dynamics using the master equation approach, we consider explicitly the dynamics of the reservoirs. In this situation, we show that the entanglement is completely transferred from atoms to reservoirs. Although the cavities mediate this entanglement transfer, we show that under certain conditions, no entanglement is found in cavities throughout the dynamics. Considering the entanglement dynamics of interacting and non-interacting bipartite subsystems, we found time windows where the entanglement can only flow through interacting subsystems, depending on the system parameters.

Photodetection of propagating quantum microwaves in circuit QED

We develop the theory of a metamaterial composed of an array of discrete quantum absorbers inside a one-dimensional waveguide that implements a high-efficiency microwave photon detector. A basic design consists of a few metastable superconducting nanocircuits spread inside and coupled to a one-dimensional waveguide in a circuit QED setup. The arrival of a {\it propagating} quantum microwave field induces an irreversible change in the population of the internal levels of the absorbers, due to a selective absorption of photon excitations. This design is studied using a formal but simple quantum field theory, which allows us to evaluate the single-photon absorption efficiency for one and many absorber setups. As an example, we consider a particular design that combines a coplanar coaxial waveguide with superconducting phase qubits, a natural but not exclusive playground for experimental implementations. This work and a possible experimental realization may stimulate the possible arrival of "all-optical" quantum information processing with propagating quantum microwaves, where a microwave photodetector could play a key role.

Microwave Photon Detector in Circuit QED

Quantum optical photodetection has occupied a central role in understanding radiation-matter interactions. It has also contributed to the development of atomic physics and quantum optics, including applications to metrology, spectroscopy, and quantum information processing. The quantum microwave regime, originally explored using cavities and atoms, is seeing a novel boost with the generation of nonclassical propagating fields in circuit quantum electrodynamics (QED). This promising field, involving potential developments in quantum information with microwave photons, suffers from the absence of photodetectors. Here, we design a metamaterial composed of discrete superconducting elements that implements a high-efficiency microwave photon detector. Our design consists of a microwave guide coupled to an array of metastable quantum circuits, whose internal states are irreversibly changed due to the absorption of photons. This proposal can be widely applied to different physical systems and can be generalized to implement a microwave photon counter.

Sudden Birth Versus Sudden Death of Entanglement in Multipartite Systems

We study the entanglement dynamics of two cavities interacting with independent reservoirs. Expectedly, we observe that, as the cavity entanglement is depleted, it is transferred to the reservoir degrees of freedom. We find that when the cavity entanglement suddenly disappear, the reservoir entanglement suddenly and necessarily appears. Surprisingly, we show that this {\it entanglement sudden birth} can manifest before, simultaneously, or even after {\it entanglement sudden death}. Finally, we present an explanatory study of other entanglement partitions and of higher dimensional systems.

Abrupt Changes in the Dynamics of Quantum Disentanglement

Entanglement evolution in high dimensional bipartite systems under dissipation is studied. Discontinuities for the time derivative of the lower bound of entanglement of formation is found depending on the initial conditions for entangled states. This abrupt changes along the evolution appears as precursors of entanglement sudden death.

Entanglement properties in the Inhomogeneous Tavis-Cummings model

In this work we study the properties of the atomic entanglement in the eigenstates spectrum of the inhomogeneous Tavis-Cummings Model. The inhomogeneity is present in the coupling among the atoms with quantum electromagnetic field. We calculate analytical expressions for the concurrence and we found that this exhibits a strong dependence on the inhomogeneity.

Direct measurement of concurrence for atomic two-qubit pure states

We propose a general scheme to measure the concurrence of an arbitrary two-qubit pure state in atomic systems. The protocol is based on one- and two-qubit operations acting on two available copies of the bipartite system, and followed by a global qubit readout. We show that it is possible to encode the concurrence in the probability of finding all atomic qubits in the ground state. Two possible scenarios are considered: atoms crossing 3D microwave cavities and trapped ion systems.

Lamarckian Evolution and the Baldwin Effect in Evolutionary Neural Networks

Hybrid neuro-evolutionary algorithms may be inspired on Darwinian or Lamarckian evolu- tion. In the case of Darwinian evolution, the Baldwin effect, that is, the progressive incorporation of learned characteristics to the genotypes, can be observed and leveraged to improve the search. The purpose of this paper is to carry out an exper- imental study into how learning can improve G-Prop genetic search. Two ways of combining learning and genetic search are explored: one exploits the Baldwin effect, while the other uses a Lamarckian strategy. Our experiments show that using a Lamarckian op- erator makes the algorithm find networks with a low error rate, and the smallest size, while using the Bald- win effect obtains MLPs with the smallest error rate, and a larger size, taking longer to reach a solution. Both approaches obtain a lower average error than other BP-based algorithms like RPROP, other evolu- tionary methods and fuzzy logic based methods

Axiomatic Foundations of Nonrelativistic Quantum Mechanics: A Realistic Approach

A realistic axiomatic formulation of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics for a single microsystem with spin is presented, from which the most important theorems of the theory can be deduced. In comparison with previous formulations, the formal aspect has been improved by the use of certain mathematical theories, such as the theory of equipped spaces, and group theory. The standard formalism is naturally obtained from the latter, starting from a central primitive concept: the Galilei group.
