Heat transport in magnetic fields by quantum spin liquid in the organic insulators EtMe3Sb[Pd(dmit)2]2 and κ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu2(CN)3

Measurements of the low-temperature thermal conductivity collected on insulators with geometrical frustration produce important experimental facts shedding light on the nature of quantum spin liquid composed of spinons. We employ a model of strongly correlated quantum spin liquid located near the fermion condensation phase transition to analyze the exciting measurements of the low-temperature thermal conductivity in magnetic fields collected on the organic insulators EtMe3Sb[Pd(dmit)_2]2 and κ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu2(CN)3. Our analysis of the conductivity allows us to reveal a strong dependence of the effective mass of spinons on magnetic fields, to detect a scaling behavior of the conductivity, and to relate it to both the spin-lattice relaxation rate and the magnetoresistivity. Our calculations and observations are in a good agreement with experimental data.

Common quantum phase transition in quasicrystals and heavy-fermion metals

Extraordinary new materials named quasicrystals and characterized by noncrystallographic rotational symmetry and quasiperiodic translational properties have attracted scrutiny. Study of quasicrystals may shed light on the most basic notions related to the quantum critical state observed in heavy-fermion metals. We show that the electronic system of some quasicrystals is located at the fermion condensation quantum phase transition without tuning. In that case the quasicrystals possess the quantum critical state with the non-Fermi liquid behavior which in magnetic fields transforms into the Landau Fermi-liquid one. Remarkably, the quantum critical state is robust despite the strong disorder experienced by the electrons. We also demonstrate for the first time that quasicrystals exhibit the typical scaling behavior of their thermodynamic properties such as the magnetic susceptibility, and belong to the famous family of heavy-fermion metals. Our calculated thermodynamic properties are in good agreement with recent experimental observations.

Identification of Strongly Correlated Spin Liquid in Herbertsmithite

Exotic quantum spin liquid (QSL) is formed with such hypothetic particles as fermionic spinons carrying spin 1/2 and no charge. Here we calculate its thermodynamic and relaxation properties. Our calculations unveil the fundamental properties of QSL, forming strongly correlated Fermi system located at a fermion condensation quantum phase transition. These are in a good agreement with experimental data and allow us to detect the behavior of QSL as that observed in heavy fermion metals. We predict that the thermal resistivity of QSL under the application of magnetic fields at fixed temperature demonstrates a very specific behavior. The key features of our findings are the presence of spin-charge separation and QSL formed with itinerant heavy spinons in herbertsmithite.

Baryon asymmetry resulting from a quantum phase transition in the early universe

A novel mechanism for explaining the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe is considered. We assume that the universe starts from completely symmetric state and then, as it cools down, it undergoes a quantum-phase transition which in turn causes an asymmetry between matter and anti-matter. The mechanism does not require the baryon number violating interactions or CP violation at a microscopic level. Our analysis of the matter-antimatter asymmetry is in the context of conspicuous experimental results obtained in the condensed-matter physics.

Space of State Vectors in PT Symmetrical Quantum Mechanics

Space of states of PT symmetrical quantum mechanics is examined. Requirement that eigenstates with different eigenvalues must be orthogonal leads to the conclusion that eigenfunctions belong to the space with an indefinite metric. The self consistent expressions for the probability amplitude and average value of operator are suggested. Further specification of space of state vectors yield the superselection rule, redefining notion of the superposition principle. The expression for the probability current density, satisfying equation of continuity and vanishing for the bound state, is proposed.

On a description of Gravitational Interaction between moving objects in terms of Spatial Gravitational Fields

Analyzing two simple experimental situations we show that from Newton's law of gravitation and Special Relativity it follows that the motion of particle in an external gravitational field can be described in terms of effective spatial fields which satisfy Maxwell-like system of equations and propagate with the speed of light. The description is adequate in a linear approximation in gravitational field and in a first order in v^2/c^2.

A Nonperturbative Perspective on Inner Product Quantization: Highly Accurate Solutions to the Schr{ö}dinger Equation

We devise a new and highly accurate quantization procedure for the inner product representation, both in configuration and momentum space. Utilizing the representation $Ψ(ξ) = \sum_{i}a_i[E]ξ^i R_β(ξ)$, for an appropriate reference function, $R_β(ξ)$, we demonstrate that the (convergent) zeroes of the coefficient functions, $a_i[E] = 0$, approximate the exact bound/resonance state energies with increasing accuracy as $i \to \infty$. The validity of the approach is shown to be based on an extension of the Hill determinant quantization procedure. Our method has been applied, with remarkable success, to various quantum mechanical problems.
