Fibre bundle formulation of time-dependent mechanics

We address classical and quantum mechanics in a general setting of arbitrary time-dependent transformations. Classical non-relativistic mechanics is formulated as a particular field theory on smooth fibre bundles over a time axis. Connections on these bundles describe reference frames. Quantum time-dependent mechanics is phrased in geometric terms of Banach and Hilbert bundles and connections on these bundles. A quantization scheme speaking this language is leafwise geometric quantization.

Grassmann-graded Lagrangian theory of even and odd variables

Graded Lagrangian formalism in terms of a Grassmann-graded variational bicomplex on graded manifolds is developed in a very general setting. This formalism provides the comprehensive description of reducible degenerate Lagrangian systems, characterized by hierarchies of non-trivial higher-order Noether identities and gauge symmetries. This is a general case of classical field theory and Lagrangian non-relativistic mechanics.

Classical gauge gravitation theory

Classical gravitation theory is formulated as gauge theory on natural bundles where gauge symmetries are general covariant transformations and a gravitational field is a Higgs field responsible for their spontaneous symmetry breaking.

Differential operators on Schwartz distributions. Jet formalism

Differential operators on Schwartz distributions conventionally are defined as the transpose of differential operators on functions with compact support. They do not exhaust all differential operators. We follow algebraic formalism of differential operators on modules over commutative rings. In a general setting, Schwartz distributions on sections with compact support of vector bundles over an arbitrary smooth manifold are considered.

Relativistic mechanics in a general setting

Relativistic mechanics on an arbitrary manifold is formulated in the terms of jets of its one-dimensional submanifolds. A generic relativistic Lagrangian is constructed. Relativistic mechanics on a pseudo-Riemannian manifold is particularly considered.

Differential operators on Lie and graded Lie algebras

Theory of differential operators on associative algebras is not extended to the non-associative ones in a straightforward way. We consider differential operators on Lie algebras. A key point is that multiplication in a Lie algebra is its derivation. Higher order differential operators on a Lie algebra are defined as composition of the first order ones. The Chevalley--Eilenberg differential calculus over a Lie algebra is defined. Examples of finite-dimensional Lie algebras, Poisson algebras, algebras of vector fields, and algebras of canonical commutation relations are considered. Differential operators on graded Lie algebras are defined just as on the Lie ones.

Superintegrable Hamiltonian systems with noncompact invariant submanifolds. Kepler system

The Mishchenko-Fomenko theorem on superintegrable Hamiltonian systems is generalized to superintegrable Hamiltonian systems with noncompact invariant submanifolds. It is formulated in the case of globally superintegrable Hamiltonian systems which admit global generalized action-angle coordinates. The well known Kepler system falls into two different globally superintegrable systems with compact and noncompact invariant submanifolds.

Advanced Mechanics. Mathematical Introduction

Classical non-relativistic mechanics in a general setting of time-dependent transformations and reference frame changes is formulated in the terms of fibre bundles over the time-axis R. Connections on fibre bundles are the main ingredient in this formulation of mechanics which thus is covariant under reference frame transformations. The basic notions of a non-relativistic reference frame, a relative velocity, a free motion equation, a relative acceleration, an external force are formulated. Newtonian, Lagrangian, Hamiltonian mechanical systems and the relations between them are defined. Lagrangian and Hamiltonian conservation laws are considered.

Lectures on Differential Geometry of Modules and Rings

Generalizing differential geometry of smooth vector bundles formulated in algebraic terms of the ring of smooth functions, its derivations and the Koszul connection, one can define differential operators, differential calculus and connections on modules over arbitrary commutative, graded commutative and noncommutative rings. For instance, this is the case of quantum theory, SUSY theory and noncommutative geometry, respectively. The relevant material on this subject is summarized.

Lectures on supergeometry

Elements of supergeometry are an ingredient in many contemporary classical and quantum field models involving odd fields. For instance, this is the case of SUSY field theory, BRST theory, supergravity. Addressing to theoreticians, these Lectures aim to summarize the relevant material on supergeometry of modules over graded commutative rings, graded manifolds and supermanifolds.

Fibre Bundles, Jet Manifolds and Lagrangian Theory. Lectures for Theoreticians

In contrast with QFT, classical field theory can be formulated in a strict mathematical way by treating classical fields as sections of smooth fibre bundles. Addressing to the theoreticians, these Lectures aim to compile the relevant material on fibre bundles, jet manifolds, connections, graded manifolds and Lagrangian theory. They follow the perennial course of lectures on geometric methods in field theory at the Department of Theoretical Physics of Moscow State University.

On incompleteness of classical field theory

Classical field theory is adequately formulated as Lagrangian theory on fibre bundles and graded manifolds. One however observes that non-trivial higher stage Noether identities and gauge symmetries of a generic reducible degenerate Lagrangian field theory fail to be defined. Therefore, such a field theory can not be quantized.

Classical field theory. Advanced mathematical formulation

In contrast with QFT, classical field theory can be formulated in strict mathematical terms of fibre bundles, graded manifolds and jet manifolds. Second Noether theorems provide BRST extension of this classical field theory by means of ghosts and antifields for the purpose of its quantization.

On the notion of gauge symmetries of generic Lagrangian field theory

General Lagrangian theory of even and odd fields on an arbitrary smooth manifold is considered. Its non-trivial reducible gauge symmetries and their algebra are defined in this very general setting by means of the inverse second Noether theorem. In contrast with gauge symmetries, non-trivial Noether and higher-stage Noether identities of Lagrangian theory can be intrinsically defined by constructing the exact Koszul-Tate complex. The inverse second Noether theorem that we prove associates to this complex the cochain sequence with the ascent operator whose components define non-trivial gauge and higher-stage gauge symmetries. These gauge symmetries are said to be algebraically closed if the ascent operator can be extended to a nilpotent operator. The necessary conditions for this extension are stated. The characteristic examples of Yang-Mills supergauge theory, topological Chern-Simons theory, gauge gravitation theory and topological BF theory are presented.

Mathematical models of spontaneous symmetry breaking

The Higgs mechanism of mass generation is the main ingredient in the contemporary Standard Model and its various generalizations. However, there is no comprehensive theory of spontaneous symmetry breaking. We summarize the relevant mathematical results characterizing spontaneous symmetry breaking phenomena in algebraic quantum theory, axiomatic quantum field theory, group theory, and classical gauge theory.
