CutLang V2: towards a unified Analysis Description Language

We will present the latest developments in CutLang, the runtime interpreter of a recently-developed analysis description language (ADL) for collider data analysis. ADL is a domain-specific, declarative language that describes the contents of an analysis in a standard and unambiguous way, independent of any computing framework. In ADL, analyses are written in human-readable plain text files, separating object, variable and event selection definitions in blocks, with a syntax that includes mathematical and logical operations, comparison and optimisation operators, reducers, four-vector algebra and commonly used functions. Adopting ADLs would bring numerous benefits to the LHC experimental and phenomenological communities, ranging from analysis preservation beyond the lifetimes of experiments or analysis software to facilitating the abstraction, design, visualization, validation, combination, reproduction, interpretation and overall communication of the analysis contents. Since their initial release, ADL and CutLang have been used for implementing and running numerous LHC analyses. In this process, the original syntax from CutLang v1 has been modified for better ADL compatibility, and the interpreter has been adapted to work with that syntax, resulting in the current release v2. Furthermore, CutLang has been enhanced to handle object combinatorics, to include tables and weights, to save events at any analysis stage, to benefit from multi-core/multi-CPU hardware among other improvements. In this contribution, these and other enhancements are discussed in details. In addition, real life examples from LHC analyses are presented together with a user manual.

Design and Manufacture of the RF Power Supply and RF Transmission Line for SANAEM Project Prometheus

A 1-5 MeV proton beamline is being built by the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority in collaboration with a number of graduate students from different universities. The primary goal of the project, is to acquire the design ability and manufacturing capability of all the components locally. SPP will be an accelerator and beam diagnostics test facility and it will also serve the detector development community with its low beam current. This paper discusses the design and construction of the RF power supply and the RF transmission line components such as its waveguide converters and its circulator. Additionally low and high power RF test results are presented to compare the performances of the locally produced components to the commercially available ones.

Pulsed Beam Tests at the SANAEM RFQ Beamline

A proton beamline consisting of an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) source, two solenoid magnets, two steerer magnets and a radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) is developed at the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority's (TAEA) Saraykoy Nuclear Research and Training Center (SNRTC-SANAEM) in Ankara. In Q4 of 2016, the RFQ was installed in the beamline. The high power tests of the RF power supply and the RF transmission line were done successfully. The high power RF conditioning of the RFQ was performed recently. The 13.56 MHz ICP source was tested in two different conditions, CW and pulsed. The characterization of the proton beam was done with ACCTs, Faraday cups and a pepper-pot emittance meter. Beam transverse emittance was measured in between the two solenoids of the LEBT. The measured beam is then reconstructed at the entrance of the RFQ by using computer simulations to determine the optimum solenoid currents for acceptance matching of the beam. This paper will introduce the pulsed beam test results at the SANAEM RFQ beamline. In addition, the high power RF conditioning of the RFQ will be discussed.

Manufacturing and the LLRF Tests of the SANAEM RFQ

The Turkish Atomic Energy Authority has been working on building an experimental proton beamline using local resources at the Saraykoy Nuclear Research and Training Center (SANAEM). The radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) was manufactured after the completion of beam dynamics and 3D electromagnetic simulation studies. The vanes were machined using a three axis CNC machine. A CMM was used for both the acceptance tests of the vanes and their assembly. Production and assembly errors were found acceptable for this cavity, the very first one developed in Turkey. The aluminum vanes were copper coated by electroplating. The coated vanes were bolted and bonded with eight screws, eight pins and two different adhesives. A silver paste was used for RF sealing and a low vapor pressure epoxy was used for vacuum isolation. First LLRF tests of the RFQ were performed using the phase shift method with a bead-pull setup, a VNA, an N-type RF coupler and a pick-up loop. Cavity quality factor was measured with 3dB method for different RF sealing stages. This study summarizes the machining, assembling and the first LLRF tests of the SANAEM RFQ.

DEMIRCI: An RFQ Design Software

The development and production of radio frequency quadrupoles, which are used for accelerating low-energy ions to high energies, continues since 1970s. The development of RFQ design software packages, which can provide ease of use with a graphical interface, can visualize the behavior of the ion beam inside the RFQ, and can run on both Unix and Windows platforms, has become inevitable due to increasing interest around the world. In this context, a new RFQ design software package, DEMIRCI, has been under development. To meet the user expectations, a number of new features have been recently added to DEMIRCI. Apart from being usable via both graphical interface and command line, DEMIRCI has been enriched with beam dynamics calculations. This new module gives users the possibility to define and track an input beam and to monitor its behavior along the RFQ. Additionally, the Windows OS has been added to the list of supported platforms. Finally, the addition of more realistic 8 term potential results has been ongoing. This note will summarize the latest developments and results from DEMIRCI RFQ design software.

Development of a Hybrid Power Supply and RF Transmission Line for SANAEM RFQ Accelerator

SANAEM Project Prometheus (SPP) has been building a proton beamline at MeV range. Its proton source, two solenoids, and a low energy diagnostic box have been already manufactured and installed. These are going to be followed by a 4-vane RFQ to be powered by two stage PSU. The first stage is a custom-built solid state amplifier providing 6 kW at 352.2 MHz operating frequency. The second stage, employing TH 595 tetrodes from Thales, will amplify this input to 160 kW in a short pulsed mode. The power transfer to the RFQ will be achieved by the means of a number of WR2300 full and half height waveguides, 3 1/8" rigid coaxial cables, joined by appropriate adapters and converters and by a custom design circulator. This paper summarizes the experience acquired during the design and the production of these components.

Current Status of the SANAEM RFQ Accelerator Beamline

The design and production studies of the proton beamline of SPP, which aims to acquire know-how on proton accelerator technology thru development of man power and serves as particle accelerator technologies test bench, continue at TAEK-SANAEM as a multi-phase project. For the first phase, 20 keV protons will be accelerated to 1.3 MeV by a single piece RFQ. Currently, the beam current and stability tests are ongoing for the Inductively Coupled Plasma ion source. The measured magnetic field maps of the Low Energy Beam Transport solenoids are being used for matching various beam configurations of the ion source to the RFQ by computer simulations. The installation of the low energy diagnostics box was completed in Q1 of 2015. The production of the RFQ cavity was started with aluminum 7075-T6 which will be subsequently coated by Copper to reduce the RF (Ohmic) losses. On the RF side, the development of the hybrid power supply based on solid state and tetrode amplifiers continues. All RF transmission components have already produced with the exception of the circulator and the power coupling antenna which are in the manufacturing and design phases, respectively. The acceptance tests of the produced RF components are ongoing. This work summarizes the design, production and test phases of the above-mentioned SPP proton beamline components.

Design Studies with DEMIRCI for SPP RFQ

To design a Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) is a onerous job which requires a good understanding of all the main parameters and the relevant calculations. Up to the present there are only a few software packages performing this task in a reliable way. These legacy software, though proven in time, could benefit from the modern software development tools like Object Oriented (OO) programming. In this note, a new RFQ design software, DEMIRCI is introduced. It is written entirely from scratch using C++ and based on CERN's OO ROOT library. It has a friendly graphical user interface and also a command line interface for batch calculations. It can also interact by file exchange with similar software in the field. After presenting the generic properties of DEMIRCI, its compatibility with similar software packages is discussed based on the results from the reference design parameters of SPP (SNRTC Project Prometheus), a demonstration accelerator at Ankara, Turkey.

A Graphical Approach to Radio Frequency Quadrupole Design

The design of a radio frequency quadrupole, an important section of all ion accelerators, and the calculation of its beam dynamics properties can be achieved using the existing computational tools. These programs, originally designed in 1980s, show effects of aging in their user interfaces and in their output. The authors believe there is room for improvement in both design techniques using a graphical approach and in the amount of analytical calculations before going into CPU burning finite element analysis techniques. Additionally an emphasis on the graphical method of controlling the evolution of the relevant parameters using the drag-to-change paradigm is bound to be beneficial to the designer. A computer code, named DEMIRCI, has been written in C++ to demonstrate these ideas. This tool has been used in the design of Turkish Atomic Energy Authority (TAEK)'s 1.5 MeV proton beamline at Saraykoy Nuclear Research and Training Center (SANAEM). DEMIRCI starts with a simple analytical model, calculates the RFQ behavior and produces 3D design files that can be fed to a milling machine. The paper discusses the experience gained during design process of SANAEM Project Prometheus (SPP) RFQ and underlines some of DEMIRCI's capabilities.

Project PROMETHEUS: Design and Construction of a Radio Frequency Quadrupole at TAEK

The PROMETHEUS Project is ongoing for the design and development of a 4-vane radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) together with its H+ ion source, a low energy beam transport (LEBT) line and diagnostics section. The main goal of the project is to achieve the acceleration of the low energy ions up to 1.5 MeV by an RFQ (352 MHz) shorter than 2 meter. A plasma ion source is being developed to produce a 20 keV, 1 mA H+ beam. Simulation results for ion source, transmission and beam dynamics are presented together with analytical studies performed with newly developed RFQ design code DEMIRCI. Simulation results shows that a beam transmission 99% could be achieved at 1.7 m downstream reaching an energy of 1.5 MeV. As the first phase an Aluminum RFQ prototype, the so-called cold model, will be built for low power RF characterization. In this contribution the status of the project, design considerations, simulation results, the various diagnostics techniques and RFQ manufacturing issues are discussed.

SPP Beamline Design and Beam Dynamics

The Radio Frequency Quadrupole of SANAEM Project Prometheus will be a demonstration and educational machine which will accelerate protons from 20 keV to 1.5 MeV. The project is funded by Turkish Atomic Energy Authority and it will be located at Saraykoy Nuclear Research and Training Center in Ankara. The SPP beamline consists of a multi-cusp H+ ion source, a Low Energy Beam Transport line and a four-vane RFQ operating at 352.2 MHz. The design studies for the multi-cusp ion source (RF or DC) were performed with IBSimu and SIMION software packages. The source has already been produced and currently undergoes extensive testing. There is also a preliminary design for the solenoid based LEBT, POISSON and PATH were used in parallel for the preliminary design. Two solenoid magnets are produced following this design. The RFQ design was made using LIDOS.RFQ.Designer and it was crosschecked with a home-grown software package, DEMIRCI. The initial beam dynamics studies have been performed with both LIDOS and TOUTATIS. This paper discusses the design of the SPP beamline focusing on the RFQ beam dynamics.

Status of the SPP RFQ project

The SPP project at TAEK will use a 352.2 MHz 4-vane Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) to accelerate H+ ions from 20 keV to 1.5 MeV. With the design already complete, the project is at the test production phase. To this effect, a so called "cold model" of 50 cm length has been produced to validate the design approach, to perform the low power RF tests and to evaluate possible production errors. This study will report on the current status of the low energy beam transport line (LEBT) and RFQ cavity of the SPP project. It will also discuss the design and manufacturing of the RF power supply and its transmission line. In addition, the test results from some of the LEBT components will be shown and the final RFQ design will be shared.

Probing small x(g) region with the LHeC based gamma-p colliders

Potential of the LHeC for probing small x(g) region via c\bar{c} and b\bar{b} production have been investigated. Obtained results clearly show the advantage of gamma-p collider option. Measurement of x(g) down to 3\times10^{-6} seems to be reachable which is two order smaller than HERA coverage.

Comment on "Three Extra Mirror or Sequential Families: Case for a Heavy Higgs Boson and Inert Doublet"

In a recent Letter Martinez et al.2011 have argued that the existence of extra three families is still perfectly in accord with the standard model (SM), as long as an additional Higgs doublet is also present. Here we claim that the mentioned accordance can be obtained with less reliance on BSM physics like additional Higgs doublets, but benefiting from Majorana neutrinos is sufficient.

Impact of the relatively light fourth family neutrino on the Higgs boson search

The existence of a fourth fermion generation has mostly been considered as a source of enhanced Higgs signals with respect to the 3 family Standard Model predictions. However, a fourth Standard Model family neutrino could cause the opposite situation. It is shown that relatively light fourth family neutrino (2m_(nu_(4))<m_(H)) could drastically change the interpretation of the search results for the Higgs boson, especially if m_(H)<170 GeV.
