Radiative heat transfer of spherical particles mediated by fluctuation electromagnetic field

We calculate intensity of radiative heat transfer and radiative conductance in a system of two spherical particles embedded in equilibrium vacuum background (photon gas). The temperatures of the particles and of the background radiation are arbitrary. The calculations are based on the dipole and additive approximations of the fluctuation electromagnetic theory. We obtained much higher radiative conductance between 25 mu silica particles (by 4 orders of magnitude) in comparison with recent results by A.Narayanaswamy and Gang Chen (Phys.Rev., 2008).

Fluctuation electromagnetic conservative -dissipative interaction and heating of two closely spaced parallel plates in relative motion. Nonrelativistic approximation.2

For the first time, we calculate the heating rate, attractive conservative and tangential dissipative fluctuation electromagnetic forces felt by a thick plate moving parallel to a closely spaced another plate in rest using the retarded nonrelativistic approximation of fluctuation electrodynamics. We argue that recently developed relativistic out of equilibrium theory of fluctuation electromagnetic interactions (Volokitin et. al., Phys.Rev. B78, 155437 (2008)) has serious drawbacks.

Features of the configurations "small particle -plate" and "plate -plate" in the theory of fluctuation electromagnetic interaction

It is shown that the limiting transition from the geometrical configuration "plate -plate" to configuration "small particle -plate" being frequently used in the theory of Lifshitz -Pitaevskii, is not continually true. On the other hand, the known solution to the problem in the last configuration can be used to verify the generalizations of the theory being worked out in the former configuration.

Fluctuation electromagnetic conservative -dissipative interaction and heating of two closely spaced parallel plates in relative motion. Nonrelativistic approximation.1

For the first time, we calculate the heating rate, attractive conservative and tangential dissipative fluctuation electromagnetic forces felt by a thick plate moving parallel to a closely spaced another plate in rest using a nonrelativistic approximation of fluctuation electrodynamics. These results can be considered as the high lights when solving general relativistic problem of the fluctuation electromagnetic interaction in configuration of two perfectly smooth parallel thick plates in relative motion.

Vacuum attraction, friction and heating of nanoparticles moving nearby a heated surface

We review the fluctuation electromagnetic theory of attraction, friction and heating of neutral nonmagnetic nanoparticles moving with constant velocity in close vicinity to the solid surface. The theory is based on an exact solution of the relativistic problem of the fluctuation electromagnetic interaction in configuration sphere -plane in the dipole approximation.

Features of the fluctuation -electromagnetic interaction between a small conducting particle and polarizable medium

For the first time, new important features of the fluctuation electromagnetic interaction between a small conducting particle and a smooth surface of polarizable medium (both dielectric and metallic) are worked out. The particle is characterized by classical electric and magnetic polarizabilities. The temperature dependence and retardation effects are explicitly taken into account. The resulting interaction force between a metallic particle and the surface of metal proves to be determined to great extent by magnetic coupling and reveals specific dependences on distance, temperature, particle radius and material properties of contacting materials. Numerical estimations are given in the case of a Cu particle above a smooth Cu substrate at different particle radius and temperature of the system.

Casimir-Polder force out of thermal equilibrium

We calculate equilibrium and nonequilibrium Casimir-Polder force felt by a small particle (an atom)near a flat substrate using the framework of fluctuation electrodynamics in configuration of a small sphere above a flat substrate. A numerical example is given for a SiC micron -sized particle above a SiC substrate. Different temperature configurations are considered.
